Evangelical Sunday School and Character Building: A Study of Christian Education for Children of Pre-adolescent Level
SMTPI is a form of formal church education that also serves as a platform for Christian Religious Education services for children. At SMTPI, children have the opportunity to learn and receive various teachings. One of the primary goals of Christian Religious Education (CRE) at SMTPI is character building, a process where children undergo changes in inner attitudes that influence their thoughts, behavior, character, and overall human nature. The purpose of this study is to identify the factors that influence the character-building of SMTPI children at the pre-adolescent level and to evaluate how SMTPI contributes to their character-building, viewed from the perspective of CRE. Based on analysis conducted through observation, interviews, and literature review, two key factors are identified as influencing children’s character building: internal and external factors. Additionally, SMTPI contributes significantly to character building by employing various creative and innovative teaching methods in its learning process. These methods help reduce children’s boredom while studying, making it easier for them to grasp the meanings and messages conveyed by caregivers. This approach ensures that children experience a process of character building that aligns with Christian values, fostering the formation of better character traits by Christian principles
Kajian Teologis tentang Budaya Mopat Asam Dayak Kebahant dan Relevansinya bagi Persembahan Kandungan Kristen
This study investigates the Mopat Asam ritual, a traditional practice of the Dayak Kebahant community in Kalimantan Barat, Indonesia. This ritual, conducted during pregnancy, aims to lift taboos and seek blessings for the mother and child. The research employs a qualitative approach, including in-depth interviews with key informants, document analysis, and direct observations in Desa Merah Arai. The study reveals the deep spiritual and social significance of the ritual, which aligns with various Christian principles. By analyzing the symbolic meanings and stages of Mopat Asam, the research explores its theological relevance and potential integration with Christian offering practices. The findings highlight how traditional values and religious practices can be harmonized, enriching the spiritual experiences of the Dayak Kebahant community. This integration fosters a deeper understanding of the sacredness of life and communal solidarity, bridging cultural traditions with Christian teachings
The Implications of Nahum 1:12-2:2 for the Case of Religious Discrimination in Indonesia
The book of Nahum is full of the news of God’s judgment upon Nineveh; this book looks gloomy and hopeless, but one will find the theme of restoration as well. This article analyzes Nahum 1:12-2:2 as a basis for addressing the problem of religious discrimination in Indonesia. Using the literature study method, the results from this article are divided into theological and practical implications. Theologically, the text of Nahum 1:12-2:2 provides believers with hope for restoration from the One who brings true restoration: God himself. Practically, this text encourages God\u27s people to remain steadfast and not despair but have hope, for there will come a time when God restores them. In addition, when true restoration occurs, believers should return to God and not continue to indulge themselves in pleasure and self-satisfaction
How Can the Church Reclaim Backsliders? Analysis of Church Education to Reclaim Backsliders
Backsliding is a problem occurring among Christians in Myanmar. The author focuses this research on seeking several solutions to the issue of backsliding among Christians in Myanmar by comparing it with the Reformed worldview. The analytical focus is on the educational aspect in the church to address backsliding based on the Reformed worldview. This research was conducted in several stages, including problem identification and its causes, proposing problem-solving ideas. The researcher conducted interviews among Christians and elaborated with various other literary sources. The research findings reveal that the church needs to teach sound doctrines that can help its members grow in their faith and withstand difficult times. Political and religious issues are inseparable, but the fundamental problem is the need for contextual churches. The church needs to love and care for its flock. Additionally, the research finds that contextual churches require influence in every public area. Church leaders in urban areas need to be more educated and aware of the views and sensitivities of various ethnic, class, race, and religious groups. The church, as the body of Christ, should be able to communicate the Word of God honestly and accurately to its members and ensure that they are engaged in Bible classes or groups where they can learn and enjoy fellowship with fellow believers to strengthen their faith.
Pendidikan Kristen Dalam Pendidikan Nasional: Peran dan Tantangannya
Pendidikan agama Kristen mengajarkan dan mendidik siswa mampu berperan di lingkungannya supaya bisa mengabarkan keselamatan yang telah diterimanya. Pendidikan Kristen tidak sekadar bersifat deskriptif atau sekadar memperkuat pengayatan dan memperdalam penghayatan iman Krisen, melainkan merupakan kehidupan ataupun hubungannya dengan lingkungan masyarakat yang lebih luas. Iman Kristiani akan menjadi landasan sikap, tingkah laku, karakter dimanapun berada dengan berbagai latar belakang keagamaan, suku, ras tradisi dan sebagainya. Pemerintah dibantu dan ditopang dengan adanya perguruan swasta (Kristen). Namun ada kecurigaan yang terlalu tajam pada lembaga pendidikan Kristen. Padahal maksud dan tujuan mata pelajaran agama Kristen di sekolah sama sekali tidak memaksa siswa menjadi pemeluk agama Kristen. Tidak ada dan tak mengenal istilah kristenisasi di lembaga pendidikan Kristen. Namun sebagai wujud rasa bertanggung jawab ikut serta mencerdaskan kehidupan bangsa. Pendidikan yang diselenggarakan oleh lembaga Kristen justru menyajikan pendidikan yang holistik yang berdasarkan visi Kristen (mengenai ekologi, hubungan antar manusia, dan cinta kasih). Pendidikan Kristen dalam Pendidikan Nasional telah tertuang pada SISDIKNAS dan peraturan Menteri Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan Republik Indonesia. Namun perlu diingat bahwa lembaga pendidikan Kristen merupakan pendidikan yang mempunyai ciri khas dan jati diri sesuai UU No 2 Tahun 1989
Resolving the Contradictions in Parenting Roles within Karo Culture and the Church
This article explores the contradictions in parenting role principles between Karo culture and the teachings of the Batak Karo Protestant Church (GBKP). Employing a qualitative method with a literature review approach, the research examines gender roles in parenting through the lens of Karo cultural perspectives and GBKP doctrines. The analysis reveals significant differences in the emphasis on gender roles, posing challenges for Christian Karo families in harmonizing parenting practices with both cultural values and religious teachings. The research recommends a pedagogical approach that balances the roles of fathers and mothers to foster harmonious and holistic parenting. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed to develop a more inclusive Christian family education model
Peran Masyarakat dalam Meningkatkan Mutu Pendidikan di Sekolah Dasar
Penelitian ini fokus pada peran masyarakat, khususnya orang tua murid, dalam meningkatkan kualitas pendidikan di Sekolah Dasar Negeri Susukan. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui wawancara dengan komite sekolah, orang tua murid, dan pelaksana sekolah. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa keterlibatan orang tua sangat signifikan dalam pengambilan keputusan terkait penggunaan dana Bantuan Operasional Sekolah (BOS) dan peningkatan sarana prasarana. Selain itu, orang tua aktif berpartisipasi dalam musyawarah untuk merumuskan kebijakan pendidikan, yang menciptakan hubungan harmonis antara sekolah dan masyarakat. Penelitian juga menemukan bahwa partisipasi orang tua dalam program-program luar kelas dan akreditasi sekolah berkontribusi positif terhadap peningkatan kualitas pendidikan. Keterlibatan ini tidak hanya meningkatkan transparansi dan akuntabilitas, tetapi juga memperkuat rasa kepemilikan orang tua terhadap pendidikan anak-anak mereka. Berdasarkan temuan tersebut, disarankan agar sekolah terus mengembangkan forum diskusi untuk melibatkan orang tua dalam pengambilan keputusan. Selain itu, penting bagi pihak sekolah untuk meningkatkan komunikasi dan kolaborasi dengan masyarakat guna mencapai tujuan pendidikan yang lebih baik
Pastoral Theology: A Methodological Approach to Analyzing Social Cases
Religious life cannot be separated from society. As a religious institution, the church must impact society through concrete action. One of these approaches is through pastoral theology. This research aims to provide a methodological template for academics and churches, in particular, to use pastoral theology to analyze societal problems. This is necessary because some churches are still bound by dogmas that restrict the church’s role to “spiritual” matters rather than matters of concrete social concern. So, churches often distance themselves from the social theory approach in dissecting society\u27s problems. The analytical tool used in this paper is the pastoral cycle method. A pastoral theological approach focuses on cases that have occurred or are currently occurring in society. This paper uses the case of food scarcity, namely cooking oil, which has occurred in Indonesia. The research results show that the social theological approach, which has been shunned by evangelical theology, can be used in dissecting and mapping social cases in society to contribute to the church in determining anticipatory steps and responding with concern to these social problems. Through this research, it can be concluded that the social function of the church as light and salt of the world can be achieved by using pastoral theology. The implications of this research will encourage churches to position themselves as government partners in realizing the achievement of SDG targets on the one hand and the other hand, provide new insight that pastoral theology does not only deal with “spiritual” (i.e., intangible) matters. It can be seen that a Biblical approach can be intertwined with social analysis for the purpose of social welfare
Persepsi tentang Film Kupu-Kupu Malam dan Kajian Pendidikan Agama Kristennya
“Kupu-kupu Malam” is a beautiful name commonly mentioned by Indonesian citizens for women who work as Commercial Sex Workers. There are various reasons why these women fall into the night world. One of them is faced by Laura, who is played by Michelle Ziudith in the film “Kupu-kupu Malam”. Film is a medium made by humans and is even lifted from the reality of human life. She had to enter the world of prostitution to finance her sister, who was seriously ill because they were orphans and did not have a single family, and the various consequences that she had to face alone for her decision. Starting from having to divide her time to study, working as a “Kupu-kupu Malam”, checking and seeing the development of her sister\u27s health, and accepting the negative stigma and discrimination by society, especially by the man she loves and her family. Talking about night butterfly women among Indonesian people is a sensitive thing, especially if it is done by the closest people because it is an activity that is contrary to the norms of society and the teachings of every religion in Indonesia. The film “Kupu-kupu Malam” premiered on November 25, 2022, and was watched by many young people. They expressed various responses regarding the content and roles played by the film\u27s characters. These responses are what make the author interested in writing it with the study of Christian Religious Education and using a qualitative method approach
Peran Guru Agama dalam Membangun Moderasi Beragama di Sekolah Negeri dan Swasta Bogor
Pendidikan agama memiliki peran penting dalam membentuk sikap dan nilai-nilai siswa terhadap keberagaman agama, suku, dan budaya. Guru agama, sebagai pilar utama dalam pendidikan agama di sekolah, memiliki tanggung jawab besar dalam membangun moderasi beragama di tengah masyarakat yang multikultural. Dengan dukungan kerangka hukum yang kokoh dan kampanye moderasi beragama yang digalakkan oleh Kementerian Agama, pendidikan agama di Indonesia bertujuan untuk memperkuat harmoni dan pemahaman lintas agama. Tulisan ini membahas peran penting guru agama dalam membangun moderasi beragama di sekolah Negeri dan Swasta kota Bogor. Metode penelitian yang digunakan melibatkan studi pustaka untuk memahami konsep moderasi beragama dan peran guru agama. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa moderasi beragama mengacu pada pendekatan dalam menjalani kehidupan beragama yang seimbang, bijaksana, dan menghormati nilai-nilai kemanusiaan serta kepentingan umum. Guru agama dapat membantu membangun moderasi beragama dengan memahamkan siswa tentang ajaran agama secara inklusif, mendorong dialog antaragama, menekankan pentingnya toleransi, memberikan bimbingan spiritual, dan mengelola program keagamaan yang inklusif. Peran guru agama dalam membangun moderasi beragama di sekolah sangatlah penting. Dengan memperkuat nilai-nilai positif dalam agama dan menciptakan lingkungan belajar yang inklusif, guru agama dapat membantu menciptakan peserta didik yang memiliki sikap inklusif dan moderasi dalam beragama
