    Social networking is a unique platform for content sharing used by people all over the world irrespective of vast differences in language, culture and societal norms. The connectivity, flexibility and ease of access have lead to the utilization of these social networks as a tool of citizen journalism. Now-a-days, people exhibit their social responsibility by informing or reporting about the problems in the society through these social networks that reaches the masses which in turn makes press and media, government officials and authorities to look into the issue. Kerala, famously called as “The God’s own Country” is facing its worst time ever with the pouring rainfall, flooding rivers, landslides and people are losing their lives, getting displaced and are being accommodated in several camps in the state. In this situation, people in and around Kerala is using social media to organise, collect, and distribute the relief funds and materials required in different locations. It is noted that immediate requirements are informed to people through social media and it is being fulfilled at the earliest.  The purpose of this study is to explore the utilization of social networks as the journalistic tool by the citizens and attempt to sooth the hardships faced by the people.

Mobile communication has brought in great revolution in the field of agriculture by providing vide scope of agricultural development through access of information on modern agricultural practices, agricultural market, new crops, weather, pests control and so on.     Influence of Promotional Tools and Physicians’ Demographics A Study in Indian Pharmaceutical Industry

    This paper attempts to study the association between physicians’ demographics and promotional tools influence on prescription behaviour. This paper is part of a larger study. Primary data for the study from physicians was collected through a survey using a structured questionnaire. One thousand physicians were identified through systematic random sampling. The questionnaire was administered face to face through personal visits in physicians’ chambers in the hospitals. A significant association is found between practicing years and educational programs, medical representative and samples influence on prescription behaviour. Qualification of respondents’ was found to be related with medical representative’s influence on prescription behaviour. Physicians with the qualification of Master of Surgery have the highest mean influence on prescription behaviour. A significant association was found between specialty of physicians’ and mean influence score of medical representative, gifts and samples. Orthopaedics specialty scored highest  for the mean influence score of medical representative. Numbers of prescriptions were found to be associated with educational programs influence on prescription behaviour. Physicians writing 21 to 50 prescriptions in a week were found to be most influenced by educational programs.

    Article 19 of the Indian constitution lays down that all citizens shall have the right to freedom of speech and expression, to assemble peacefully, and without arms, to form associations or unions, to move freely throughout the territory of India, to reside in any part of the territory of India, to acquire hold and dispose of property and to practice any profession or to carry on any occupation, trade or business. The arrest of Thirumurugan Gandhi, amongst many, is an example of Govern mentality in our state. Freedom of Speech and Expression is guaranteed in our democratic society.  The advent of social media has greatly contributed to the possibility of being heard to a great extent, giving voice to the public. From mere opinions to strong points, social media serves as an accessible medium of the citizens. The arrest of Thirumurugan Gandhi, Human rights activist, garnered widespread social media attention through hashtag #Release Thirumurugan. This research is an exploratory attempt that aims to understand how online users are using Facebook and Twitter to spearhead the release of Thirumurugan Gandhi. In the light of Foucault’s concept of Governmentality, this research uses discourse analysis to analyse posts in #Release Thirumurugan. The overall sentiment expressed through the Facebook posts and tweets favour the release of Thirumurugan Gandhi. The mushrooming and viral nature of social media is contagious and has the scope to build a revolution.  More the suppression of voices, activism would intensify further

    Appraisal of Learning of Skill Based Subject through WhatsApp by Urban Under Graduate Students

    As the social media have penetrated the lives of student community, it can be used for teaching and learning of specified academic subjects. In addition, it can be used for the conduct and valuation of tests that are performed as soon as the teaching and learning process is over. In this connection, the present research was devoted to use WhatsApp as an educational tool for teaching and learning the Life Skill (LS) based subject. It was also devoted to study its effectiveness as an educational tool among the urban undergraduate student community. In the present research, the WhatsApp group of students was formed and the LS based digital modules were systematically posted to them. The students had learnt the educational contents in the modules and participated in the attitudinal, performance and skill tests. The attitudinal test results showed that the student participants were optimistic towards learning through social media. The performance based results showed that the academic performance scores of the students varied from 64.0% to 80.0% with the standard deviation of 4.95 in the average score of 71.0%. The skill based results showed that the skill scores of the students ranged between 60.0% and 76.0% with the standard deviation of 5.73 in the average score of 67.5%. As these were constructive connection among LS based digital module, learning through social media and performance of student community, it could be concluded that the social media would be effectively used in the teaching learning process of LS subjects especially for the benefit of student community.
