E-Commerce: A New Way of Business
For developing countries like India, e-commerce offers considerable opportunities. E-commerce in India is still in nascent stage, but even the most-pessimistic projections indicate a boom. It is believed that low cost of personal computers, a growing installed base for Internet use, and an increasingly competitive Internet Service Provider (ISP) market will help fuel e-commerce growth in Asia’s second most populous nation. Indian middle class of 288 million people is equal to the entire U.S. consumer base. This makes India a real attractive market for e-commerce. To make a successful e-commerce transaction, both the payment and delivery services must be made efficient. There has been a rise in the number of companies' taking up e-commerce in the recent past. Major Indian portal sites have also shifted towards e-commerce instead of depending on advertising revenue. Many sites are now selling a diverse range of products and services from flowers, greeting cards, and movie tickets to groceries, electronic gadgets, and computers. With stock exchanges coming online, the time for true e-commerce in India has finally arrived. On the negative side, there are many challenges faced by e-commerce sites in India. The relatively small credit card population and lack of uniform credit agencies create a variety of payment challenges unknown in India. Delivery of goods to consumers by couriers and postal services is not very reliable in smaller cities, towns and rural areas. However, many Indian banks have initiated Internet banking services. Speed post and courier system have also improved tremendously in recent years. Modern computer technology like secured socket layer (SSL) helps to protect against payment fraud, and to share information with suppliers and business partners. With further improvement in payment and delivery system, it is expected that India will soon become a major player in the e-commerce market. In this article, an effort has been made to explain e-commerce & its challenges & benefits

Manufacturing and Industrial Policy in European Union: An Appraisal
Manufacturing Sector is a vital source of technological progress which bears advantageous results according to the United Nations Industrial Development Organization. This veritable claim of UNIDO is proved by the fact that manufacturing and corporate business houses show more inclination towards research and development oriented and technology driven projects in comparison to other business hubs and there is a strong competition for composite market share in all manufacturing, industrial and service sectors within the European Union; that too, when the manufacturing, industrial and service trade encompasses wider cross-border mergers and acquisitions, not just of manufacturing goods, industrial products and services, but also of capital inflows, ideas and manpower. However, the market trends show that it may vary widely depending on the kind of processing techniques of the manufacturing sectors, requirements of the particular industries, mechanisms of production or even the specific European country in question

Trail by Media in Developing Countries with Special Reference to India
The modern times have seen a major breakthrough as far as the media’s roleand reach is concerned. There was a time not so long ago when media waslimited to newspapers and people would wait 24 hours to get an idea of whatwas happening around them. The last decade- and- half has seen the rise ofmulti- media, with TV and Internet emerging as big players. News now is likeinstant coffee, 24 hours, seven days a week and 365 days a year. You don’tlike the coffee, change the flavor - you want news of a different kind, switchyour TV channel or the webpage. In this scenario, and faced with huge threatfrom TV and Internet, newspapers have also changed face: they are pacier, more frivolous and more in- your- face than ever before. Trial by Media is aphrase which was coined in the late 20th and early 21st century to describe theimpact of television and newspaper coverage on a person's reputation, bycreating a widespread perception of guilt regardless of any verdict in a courtof law. One of the first celebrities in the 20th century to be arguably tried bymedia was Roscoe ‘Fatty’ Arbuckle who was acquitted by the courts butnevertheless lost his career and reputation due to the media coverage. InIndia, trial by media has assumed significant proportions. It has had bothpositive and negative results. However, many would think that the overallimpact is for the betterment of the society. Some famous criminal cases thatwould have gone unpunished but for the intervention of media arePriyadarshani Mattoo case, Jesica Lal case, Nitish Katara murder case

Does the Exchange Rate Have an Influence on Homicide and Mortality?
Introduction: This study is an empirical examination of the exchange rate of US $1 to the Jamaican dollar, mortality and homicide for 44 years (1970-2013).Objective: This article evaluates the exchange rate, homicide and mortality in Jamaica using 44 years of data (1970-2013) in an effort to determine (1) correlations, (2) strength of relationship, and (3) patterns of changes in homicide and the exchange rate.Materials and Methods: Secondary panel data are used for this paper. The panel data are for 44 years, 1970-2013, with the data taken from various governmental agencies that have responsbility for the collection and publication of statistical data.Findings: Using OLS regression, the relationship is a strong direct one (R2=0.743, adjusted R2=0.737). Furthermore, a 1% change in exchange rate corresponds to a 73.7% change in homicide rate. Or, the exchange rate accounts for 73.7% of the variability in homicide rate (F=118.6, P <0.0001) [1, 39]. A negative statistical association emerged between mortality rate and the exchange rate (rxy=−0.393 or b=−0.083), with 13.5% of the variability in the mortality rate accounted for by a 1% change in the exchange rate (R2=0.155, adjusted R2=0.135, F=7.694, P=0.008) [1, 41].Conclusion: Homicide in Jamaica is an expression of economic deprivation and frustration, unbearable psychological matters confronting the individual during periods of economic hardships; therefore, economics plays a crucial role in living and dying. Consequently, it follows that the exchange rate requires careful management as it has influence over people’s quality of life and goes further than mere changes in the cost of living
