No full textA number of things can influence the interest rate, such as risk, liquidity and tax considerations (collectively embedded in the risk structure). Another factor that influences the interest rate on a bond is its term to maturity (short run and long run); bonds with identical risk, liquidity and tax characteristics may have different interest rates because the time remaining to maturity is different. A plot of the yields on bonds with differing terms to maturity but the same risk, liquidity and tax considerations is called a yield curve, and it describes the term structure of interest rates for particular types of bonds, such as government bonds.

A Thematic Journey from Organizational Excellence to Business Sustainability
No full textThis article is an offshoot of the work undertaken in the Western Indian region since 2001, by Sadri and Jayashree and in a manner of speaking, a culmination of a study into the logical flow of organizational imperatives. Following up from the work of Jayashree (2003) the authors began with the supposition that managerial ethics is the sine qua non for every corporate entity in today’s world. This world is marked by change that is non-linear and non-Newtonian at the same time. It is marked by the concurrent collapse of structures and functions where the paradigm of a matrix organizational structure is a reality. The authors argued that as market competition intensifies capital will increasingly be centralized and concentrated. New forms of oligopolies and oligopsonies will emerge making the business environment at once complicated and competitive. In such an environment only those organizations will survive that are firmly rooted in managerial ethics. This gives it a kind of legitimacy which brings along with it acceptability and perpetuation
Corporate Governance Mechanism and Firm Financial Performance in Pakistan
No full textDue to the recent failure of larger corporations of the world, it makes necessary that corporations should adopt such policies and agendas that will enhance the firm’s financial performance and ensure the stakeholder’s interest. This study attempts to address this problem using pool regression model for a sample of 30 firms quoted on the Karachi stock exchange for the period 2009–2013. In case of large board-size, decision-making authorities take long time for making a decision. Therefore, board size should be reasonably low. The result argues for the separation of the posts of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and the Chair. Moreover results find that board with higher proportion of outside directors performs better than other firms. There is evidence that firms led by foreign CEOs tend to achieve higher level of performance than those led by local CEOs. Mainly the results are consistent with the existing literature, and sample selection was determined by availability of data rather than probability criterion

Impact Identification and Determinants of Gambling: A Case of Figure Gambling in Sholapur
No full textThe study is an attempt to identify various determinants, viz., income, consumption, age, education and sex of figure gambling. The activity which is considered to be illegal by the government of many countries is widely practiced in Sholapur district of Maharashtra. The current study adopts a mixed-method research design to examine the motivation for gambling and its impact on developmental indicators. Results show that the variables like income, education, sex, consumption and age are having relationship with gambling and its frequency. Although the values of correlation coefficients are very small, except in case of education and sex, yet the analysis shows some sort of relationships between these variables and gambling frequency.
