PETA SEBARAN POPULASI Amorphophallus titanum (Becc.) Becc. ex Arcang DI LAMPUNG, SUMATERA: UPAYA MENUJU PROPOSAL KE IUCN Red Data List DAN KONSERVASI Ex Situ
Amorphophallus titanum (Becc.) Becc. ex. Arcang belongs to Araceae family. The genus Amorphophallus consists of 220 species which is distributed in tropical and subtropical countries worldwide. About 26 species have been recorded in Indonesia or 11.6 % of the total Amorphophallus in the world. Sumatera Island has the highest endemic Amorphophallus species, encompasses 11 species, of which seven species are endemic, such as A. titanum. The presence of A. titanum in its natural habitat has been alarming. The lowland forests of Sumatera have been widely converted into agricultural and housing, thus may affect the rate of extinction of A. titanum in nature. The aim of this study is to provide the distribution map of A titanum in Lampung. Several sites in national parks, protected forests and community forests were observed for the research. This research was carried out from 2011 to 2016 using explorative method. The results showed that less than 10 mature individuals of A. titanum were found in each location. This indicates that this species is vulnerable, or even leading to extinction in future if not immediately protected. The result of this research will be proposed for reassessing the conservation status of A. titanum. All specimens of A. titanum collected from the forests are cultivated in Liwa Botanic Garden and Bogor Botanic Garden as an ex situ conservation action for the species
STUDI KOMPARASI KARAKTER MORFOLOGI DAN ISOZIM DUKU Lansium parasiticum(Osbeck) K.C. Sahni & Bennet ASAL KABUPATEN KUANTAN SINGINGI, RIAU
Duku (Lansium parasiticum (Osbeck) K.C. Sahni & Bennet) from Kuantan Singingi Regency, Riau, known by local people as duku turak, hasa unique oval betel nut-like neck, and tastes sweet similar to round duku. It has thick skin that is not easy to break, nor quickly rot. This duku was more preferred by local people than the round shaped duku known as duku gondok. However, the information about the potential of duku turak has not been known widely. The aim of this study was to compare morphology and isozyme characteristics of duku turak and gondok growing in Kuantan Singingi Regency based on morphological and isozyme characteristics. The result showed that turak and gondok can be distinguished based on morphological characteristics i.e tree, leave and fruit shape. Analysis of isozyme banding patterns used esterase isozyme which shows variation in the resulting patterns formed two bands. Acid phospatase (ACP) isozyme formed eight bands and aspartate aminotransferase (AAT) isozyme formed only one band. However, peroksidase isozyme showed no different variation in the resulting patterns. Similarity coefficient value based on morphology characters was about
0.15 – 0.74, while value of isozyme analysis was about 0.29 – 1.00 as well as the combination among morphology characters and isozyme were about 0.24 – 0.71. The results of this study provide characteristic information and taxonomic groupings that can be useful as a type improvement program that relies heavily on available genetic diversity
JENIS-JENIS TUMBUHAN BERMANFAAT DI SEKITAR LOKASI TAPAK KEBUN RAYA "BIOLOGI" WAMENA,PAPUA
Inventory of plant species was conducted in area surrounding Wamena "Biologi" Botanic Gardens in 2013. Observation and interview, completed with literature study was carried out to enrich or undertanding about these species utilisation by local community. This study found 28 species grew in the surrounding area of Wamena "Biologi" Botanic Garden was utilized by local community in Wamena as foods, fuel, crafts and daily tools, house and fence construction, traditional medicines and antiseptics as well as ornamental plants. Inventarisasi spesies tanaman dilakukan di daerah sekitar Kebun Raya Wamena "Biologi" pada tahun 2013. Pengamatan dan wawancara, dilengkapi dengan studi literatur dilakukan untuk memperkaya atau melakukan pemanfaatan spesies ini oleh masyarakat setempat. Studi ini menemukan 28 spesies yang tumbuh di daerah sekitar Kebun Raya Wamena "Biologi" dimanfaatkan oleh masyarakat setempat di Wamena sebagai makanan, bahan bakar, kerajinan dan alat sehari-hari, konstruksi rumah dan pagar, obat-obatan tradisional dan antiseptik serta tanaman hias
IN VITRO CULTURE OF Amorphophallus titanum (Becc.) Becc. ex Archang AT BOGOR BOTANIC GARDENS
In vitro culture of Amorphophallus titanum (Becc.) Becc. ex Arcang began more than a decade ago at Bogor Botanic Gardens. This paper is a summary of the last three years activities on the propagation of A. titanum. The initial cultures originated from different sources some of them were from the gardens collections. Different parts of the plant were used as explants; axillary buds of the corm, leaf veins and cataphyll. Murashige and Skoog (MS) formulation was used as the basal media; and different plant growth regulators or organic substances were added to find out the most suitable media for inoculation and for development of callus, root and shoot. Different types of cultures were developed and single shoots or multiple shoots as well as compact and friable callus were obtained from different explant sources. Zeatin added to MS medium gave the best result for shoot and root induction and the addition of banana showed promising results for shoot maturation in culture. The overall trials are described in this paper
Utilization of Alang-Alang (Imperata cylindrica (L.) Raeusch.) as Traditional Medicine in Indonesian Archipelago
Alang-alang is often considered as a weed to be destroyed on farms or plantations. However, the fact that alang-alang have important role in the field of health. Articles that explore the benefits of alang-alang have been written, especially in the popular media, but a source of information and user community often unclear. Ethnobotany studies to various regions in Indonesia have been conducted by teams of Bogor Botanical Gardens since 1995. Some information about the use of medicinal plants have been recorded through direct interviews in various areas, one of which is the use of alang-alang.. This paper presents various alang-alang utilization either singly or as a mixture, to cope with various diseases. This information is a summary of the various ethnobotany studies conducted by team of Bogor Botanical Garden, and supported by some of the relevant literature. This information is very important for health in the present and future
A review of options for using organic soil amendments to raise crop productivity in East Sumba, Indonesia
This review of published research focuses attention on the question of whether natural resources available in East Sumba, Nusa Tenggara Timor, Indonesia, can provide for organic soil amendment practices that will raise crop productivity and hence standards of living of people in the Regency. It examines the principles and practice of organic soil amendment against the background of soil erosion that some forms of land-use have wrought within the semi-arid tropical zone of southern Indonesia. Organic soil amendment is more than a question of providing plant-available macronutrients; it is about creating the optimum ecological conditions for crops to thrive repeatedly over the years and about increasing the food security of people dependent on the crops. Crop yields in east Sumba are as much constrained by seasonal limitations in available moisture and very likely by specific micronutrient deficiencies as they are by low levels of macronutrients. In this review, organic soil amendments in the broadest sense are catalogued, and attention is focused particularly on what the international literature tells us about the kinds of plant-based organic materials that best contribute to the long-term rebuilding of soil organic matter in tropical lands degraded by past erosive land-use practices. Crop productivity can be increased by (1) matching crop choice (at variety, species and crop community levels) to identified environmental niches, by (2) modifying crop growing environments to reduce plant stress from moisture and specific nutrient deficiencies, and with (3) novel approaches that promote beneficial synergies between organisms within crop ecosystems
PENANGANAN HAMA PENGGEREK DAUN rtona plavipuncta Hampson PADA KOLEKSI ZINGIBERACEAE DI KEBUN RAYA."EKA KARYA" BALI-LIPI
Leaf borer moth of Artona flavipuncta was a perennial pest of Bali Botanic Garden Zingberaceae collection. This paper aims to discuss A. flavipuncta attack status as well as its life cycle and control attempts, both that already snd potentially used in Bali Botanic Garden. This paper concluded that A. flavipuncta attack 54,5% of all Zingberaceae species collected in Bali Botanic Garden. Its larval activity causes severe leaves damage but never caused plant mortality. Decis 2.5EC insecticide was used to concrol this pest, but natural enemy control using assasin bug could be considered as alternative control metodh in the future.Ngengat penggerek daun Artona flavipuncta adalah hama abadi koleksi Bali Botanic Garden Zingberaceae. Makalah ini bertujuan untuk membahas status serangan A. flavipuncta serta siklus hidupnya dan upaya kontrol, baik yang sudah berpotensi digunakan di Bali Botanic Garden. Makalah ini menyimpulkan bahwa A. flavipuncta menyerang 54,5% dari semua spesies Zingberaceae yang dikumpulkan di Bali Botanic Garden. Aktivitas larva menyebabkan kerusakan daun parah tetapi tidak pernah menyebabkan kematian tanaman. Insektisida Decis 2.5EC digunakan untuk mengendalikan hama ini, tetapi pengendalian musuh alami menggunakan bug assasin dapat dianggap sebagai metodh kontrol alternatif di masa depan
FENOLOGI PEMBUNGAAN Areca vestiaria Giseke DI KEBUN RAYA EKA KARYA BALI
The aims of this research are to understand flowering phenology of Areca vestiaria Giseke from highland and lowland, to understand its flowering-fruiting productivity and the relation between its vegetative and reproductive growth. The study was conducted by observing four collections A. vestiaria from North and Central Sulawesi at Eka Karya Botanic Gardens. The study used a descriptive method by observing a flowering period including initiation, buds to anthesis, anthesis, young fruit and ripen fruit. The time required from beginning of flower until ripe fruit is 322 days for highland accession and 337 days for lowland accession. The average proportion of female flowers and male flowers in A. vestiaria is only 0.25. The number of female flowers of A. vestiaria from lowland accession is less than of the highland accession which is only 24.7%. The highland accession’s female flower ability to form young fruit is also bigger than that of the lowland accession (98.82% and 41.67% respectively). However, the highland accession’s sources to develop its young fruits into viable ripen fruits is lower than that of the lowland accessions (27.380% and 60%, respectively). There is a correlation between the height of the tree and the amount of flower produced (0.7) and there is no correlation between the diameter to the height and the amount of flowering. Seven species of insect were identified but pollinator insects are yet still unkown
AKLIMATISASI DINI MASSA PROTALUS TUMBUHAN PAKU BAHAN OBAT (Cibotium barometz (L.) J. Sm.) HASIL KULTUR SPORA SECARA IN VITRO
The golden chicken fern, Cibotium barometz (L.) J. Sm (Cibotiaceae), is an important export commodity used in both traditional and modern medicines. The population of C. barometz in some countries has declined rapidly due to over-exploitation. Therefore, this species has been included in Appendix II of CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species) since 1976. The Center for Plant Conservation – Bogor Botanic Gardens-LIPI, is striving to conserve this species ex situ, and has started propagating it through in vitro spore culture. However, C. barometz sporophyte formation from in vitro cultured spores takes a long time. Thus, we sought to acclimatize prothalli masses (gametophytes) that had not yet developed sporophytes, in an attempt to accelerate sporophyte formation. Acclimatization experiments were carried out in two stages. The first experiment used prothalli masses aged 8 months after sowing, and tested 14 kinds of acclimatization media in a transparant plastic box. The second experiment tested prothalli masses aged 15 months with the four best media selected from the first experiment, namely: (1) minced roots of the tree fern Cyathea contaminans (APC); (2) APC: charcolaled rice husk (ASP) in a 1: 1 ratio; (3) APC: cocopeat (CP) in a 1:1 ratio, and (4) APC: ASP:CP (1:1:1), using a plastic box with a translucent plastic lid. Results of the second experiment showed that the best medium for acclimatization is a mixed media composed of minced roots of the tree fern Cyathea contaminans, charcoaled rice husk, and cocopeat (1:1:1). Up to 80% of the prothalli masses grew on the three ingredient mixed media, resulting in the formation of as many as 574 sporophytes
