Get PDFThe practice of da’wa in a democratic society is often used as a tool to influence public policy trhough political means. This is often the case because the practice of da’wa is relatively easy to be exploited by politicians. They often transform religious messages of da’wa into political ones without loosing their attractiveness before the audience. The aim of this paper is, therefore, to aswer two inter-related questions; (1) how political messages masked with religious symbols become effective and therefore are able to influence public policy and (2) how such messages become not effective and therefore are not able to influence public policy. To answer those questions, success story in the case of 212 movement in Jakarta and a failure story in the case of religious purification of Islam in Lombok are analyzed to find elements that play important roles regarding the success and failure of a da’wa movement to influence public policy. Thus, this research is a descriptive-qualitative research applying observation, interview and documentation as its primary data collection techniques. Findings suggest that the roles of KH. Muhammad Anshari in propagating Islamic teaching in Samarinda, especially aspects related to his very religious life style, his action oriented ideas regarding the implementation of Islam in everyday life, and his observed behavior in family, pesantren, and small group gathering settings, is significant in shaping the religious behavior of people in his community.Keywords: KH. The Effect of Discovery Learning Method Application on Increasing Students’ Listening Outcome and Social Attitude
Get PDFCurriculum of 2013 has been started in schools appointed as the implementer. This curriculum, for English subject demands the students to improve their skills. To reach this one of the suggested method is discovery learning since this method is considered appropriate to implement for increasing the students’ ability especially to fulfill minimum criteria of success at school. This study is experimental study with one group pretest-posttest design. Its purpose is to know whether or not discovery learning model implementation could increase students’ listening score and social attitude in accordance with curriculum implementation. The subjects of this study are 37 students of class X IPA 5 Public High School 2 Jember in their 2nd semester of 2015/2016 academic year. The method used to collect data in the study is test. The research design is one group pretest-posttest design where there is only one group receiving the treatment which result is assessed by pre-test and post-test. The finding shows that there are improvement of both students’ listening and attitude scores. Based on data analysis it is concluded that the implementation of discovery learning model could increase students’ listening score and social attitude, with significance value of 0,005 (z = -2,823, p < 0,001), with medium effect size for listening score and significance value of 0,000 (-4,875, p < 0,001), with large effect size for social attitude

No full textThis article discusses ḥilah (plural: hiyal) or stratagem in Islamic family law. Hilah is one of the most important concepts in Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh). Hilah is simply defined as an attempt to manipulate the law and replace it with other rules without losing the essence of the law. The question that arises is what is the ruling of legal engineering in Islam? By means of normative study, this article presents the legal opinions regarding hilah in Islam. This study reveals that hilah can be divided into two kinds: Hilah Jaizah (allowed hilah) and Hilah Muharramah (forbidden hilah). Hilah jaizah is allowed in Islam by looking at certain conditions. In the context of Islamic family law, hilah can be done in such following conditions as: the bride's requirements of her prospective husband so as not to committing polygyny, and if that happens then the wife may sue him for divorce. Other conditions include when someone is allowed to admit to be infidel (kafir) for the sake of his/her family safety. Get PDFDifferent perspectives on determining the first day of the months in Islamic calendar especially in Ramadhan and Syawwal bring complex problems for Muslims in Indonesia. Such different perspectives are mainly due to different understandings of Islamic jurisprudence (Fiqh) and political point of views. The major consequence for this month beginning difference is the inconcurrency times of doing prayers so that the harmony and confraternity of Muslims as a whole society is disrupted.For Indonesians whom the majority is Muslims, dealing with this problem of inconcurrency requiress long time and until recently it has not come to terms yet. As a matter of fact, this concern is crucial to be solved not only for Muslims in Indonesia but also and in the world. In the Indonesian context, the root of this problem is dissimilarity in possitionality among Indonesian Islamic organization. In dealing with this problem, the Indonesian government has tried to unite the Islamic calendar.Efforts such as doing researches, conferences, trainings, workshops, and even meetings that are aimed to facilitate unity in calendar have been undergone.However, the Indonesian government has not successfully united the calender. This is because of a common critiqueamong different Muslims group to the Indonesian Ministry of Religionon its inability to accomodate different people aspirations. Consequently, there are numbers ofIndonesian Muslims in Indonesia who do not follow the result of annual itsbat meeting held by government’s.Based on the above description, the author focuses this paper on investigating Islamic law in terms of Muslims obligation to their government, especially in Itsbat meeting decision. To begin the discussion, the author provides the origin of different opinions among people in groups or Islamic organizations in deciding the start of qamariyah month in Indonesia. Afterwards, verses in Qur’an and Hadist that address Muslim’s obligation in obeying legal government especially on virtuous deeds will be cited.Keywords: Lunar Calendar, Islamic Civilizatio
