Increasing On-Task Behavior through Positive Reinforcement

The ability to stay on task has an impact on student’s academic success as they are more likely to retain information when they are engaged and focused. Being off task is defined as the student engaging in activities other than the assigned class work. Working with a middle school student the interventionist used combined interventions of a contingency contract, teacher proximity, and redirection of incompatible behaviors. After the initial implementation, the student’s on task time spiked from the baseline of 2:30 to 4:51. Energy Reconstruction in the ISS-CREAM Calorimeter
No full text2020 Celebration of Student Research and Creativity presentationThe ISS-CREAM instrument was launched to the International Space Station in 2017 to study the composition of cosmic rays, which are charged particles from outer space. The calorimeter (CAL) is a detector that measures the fraction of the particle’s energy that is deposited in the CAL. The particles’ energies are reconstructed using simulations that compare the energy deposited in the CAL to the original particle energy. This study explored different parameters of the reconstruction process. Specifically, we looked at the method of characterizing the mean deposited energy, the choice of function to fit the data, and sensitivity to energy threshold.https://youtu.be/Vm5EK24hgM

Previously, English scholars looked at the diction, syntax, tone, etc. that a text used; however, there’s an evolving system of rules that goes well beyond these formal elements. My project is a textbook chapter for undergraduate students and professors of English that presents new ways to teach genre. Specifically, it addresses how rhetorical and social situations need to be addressed before teaching genre as they improve student writing. Financial Identity Development During Emerging Adulthood

Arnett outlines five pillars as markers of adulthood, one of these being financial identity and responsibility. The goal of the current study is to determine whether the financial identity development is influenced by the experiences people have before this emerging adulthood period. Prevalence of Anxiety Among NKU Students

Transition to college, media and technology, and overall health contribute to this high prevalence of anxiety. NKU currently has no research that examines the prevalence of anxiety among college students. A brief survey was distributed to NKU students in the Student Union. This IRB-approved study will show that the prevalence of anxiety among students is fairly high. Furthermore, it will show that many students are unaware of the prevalence and effects of anxiety. Laser-Based Powder Sintering Option for 3D Printing of Metallic and Ceramic Components
No full text2020 Celebration of Student Research and Creativity presentationLaser sintering is the process where metallic or ceramic powder is deposited on a powder bed and then melted by a laser in thin layers about 1mm thick. There is a growing demand for skilled workers in this field. UC has requested graduates from NKU to enter their master’s program for additive manufacturing. The problem is that a 3D printer for laser sintering is expensive. This can be resolved by retrofitting an existing 3D printer with a laser-based powder sintering option.
