Going Under Our Feet for the Heat - Geothermal Resource Exploration in Alaska
No full text2020 Celebration of Student Research and Creativity presentationGeothermal energy is simply power generated from the Earth’s internal heat. This thermal energy is typically contained within aquifers with hot water or steam, “reservoirs”. Pilgrim Hot Springs (PHS) is a shallow geothermal reservoir, located in Alaska’s Seward Peninsula, 45 miles north of Nome. Recent drilling recorded a maximum temperature of 196°F at a depth of 1080 ft, which suggests that a substantial heat source (~300°F) feeds the PHS, which remains unlocated. In this project, we are using existing satellite images and earthquake data from PHS to identify the subsurface location of this hidden deep geothermal source.https://youtu.be/a-zFu-oxrP

Central to this topic will be the political maneuvering of the United Fruit Company and its predecessors, creating an entirely new type of nation in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. One revolutionary form of agriculture enabled their meteoric rise to the top of the global fruit industry: the plantation. Oft maligned yet widely embraced, plantations are hotbeds of historical content. The domination of local economies by plantations created puppet states throughout Central America.
Modeling Methods of X-Cave System Using Stereo Depth Sensor Data

Advances in remote sensing technologies provide an opportunity to increase the accuracy, detail and efficiency of cave mapping through depth sensors and other devices. Using the Intel Realsense D435i Stereo Depth Sensor, a 3D and 2D models will be created of the X-Cave system in Carter Caves State Resort Park in Olive Hill, Kentucky. Previous research states that possessions are evaluated on their ability to fulfill basic human needs. Participants will write 10 traits that describes a person and will write about consuming a luxury material or a luxury experiential purchase. Extended Self, Happiness, and Satisfaction will be measured. It is hypothesized that when there is a discrepancy amongst self-concepts, people will gain more happiness and satisfaction from luxury experiential purchases. Foster Care and Anxiety Among NKU Students

One of these consequences is anxiety. The current study seeks to examine the prevalence of anxiety among foster care alumni at NKU. A brief self-administered survey will be used to determine the prevalence of anxiety. The results from this IRB approved study are expected to indicate that the prevalence of anxiety is fairly high among students who are foster care alumni.
