More Than Just Quality

The purpose of this paper is to investigate these challenges that specialty coffee farmers face in order to identify the factors that impact the price of specialty coffee, to communicate with customers why they pay a premium for their coffee.
The research in this paper includes industry articles, dissertations, and peer- reviewed journal articles centered around the production of specialty coffee and its impacts on farmers. To further enhance the research, I conducted three interviews with Mid- western specialty coffee roasters to gain insight into their interactions with producers and their direct trade models. I found that commodity pricing on coffee severely impacts the volatility of this industry and disregards common business profitability models. The conclusion is that direct trade and relational coffee models add value to consumers and producers. These models employ common business profitability models, but the coffee is more expensive and higher quality than what consumers may expect."https://youtu.be/1l2cD9ZZNQ
Improving SIDS Discharge Education : A Standardized Approach
Get PDFAdvanced Nursing StudiesSudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) prevention continues to be a focus in healthcare. The consistency and quality of education regarding safe sleep practices provided to parents of newborns at discharge can affect the techniques used at home to prevent death from SIDS. A quality improvement project was conducted at a hospital in the Midwest involving registered nurses on the obstetrics and special care nursery units. The intervention consisted of developing a standardized safe sleep educational pamphlet and a plan for consistent discharge education regarding SIDS prevention. Participants completed a pretest assessing their baseline knowledge of SIDS prevention and safe sleep, utilized the new SIDS prevention pamphlet along with a oneminute video clip to deliver discharge education regarding safe sleep to parents of newborns, and then took the posttest at the completion of the project. Quantitative data was examined from pretest and posttest scores, along with qualitative feedback solicited from parent surveys about the education after discharge. Participation was low and results showed no change in knowledge from the comparison of pre and posttest answers. When asked, parents were able to recall key elements of the education and indicated that they used the information about safe sleep at home
Leadership Characteristics and Coronavirus Rates
No full text2021 Celebration of Student Research and Creativity presentation"This paper examines the characteristics commonly associated with and analyzed regarding leadership in times of crisis, such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Reviewing the qualities and features typically associated with leadership allows social scientists to study what factors help influence an individual's perceptions of their leaders' actions as crises initially unfold, play out, and ultimately conclude. According to recent literature, variables such as a leader's gender, race, and partisanship should significantly impact a leader's course of action and effectiveness when managing a public health crisis. However, when it came to the early stages of the COVID19 pandemic in the U.S., our study found that these variables made little to no difference in limiting the number of coronavirus cases on a
state-by-state basis, disproving what previous literature would have suggested. When it came to analyzing the data regarding individuals in positions of power such as a state's governor, state house leader, senate leader, and health officer, the results displayed that there was almost no correlation between the individual's gender and race that resulted in a lower number of coronavirus cases and deaths within their states. The Effect of Covid-19 On Student Athletes’ Mental Health

It may take years to fully understand the societal, economic, and overall impact of this persistent virus, but some areas of impact have been glaringly obvious as society navigates evolving pandemic safety precautions and scientific understanding of the virus. One area of significant impact is in student athletics. Isolation, lost opportunity for play and competition, and an ongoing world of uncertainty have been ever present for student athletes. Through the lens of social cognitive theory, this study explores the impact of Covid-19 on student athletes’ mental health through an examination of current studies and qualitative semi- structured personal interviews with athletes and coaches. Findings indicate increased stress and anxiety, difficulty concentration, disrupted sleeping patterns, and academic performance concerns. Positive and negative influences are explored and recommendations for intervention and preventative strategies to address mental health impacts are offered.https://youtu.be/2OZFZ0w56R
COVID-19's Impact on Northern Kentucky, as Explored in Wastewater Testing

Previous articles have explored wastewater testing during the pandemic, but a story has never investigated a local initiative and explored wastewater as a developing science in the United States. Wastewater can contain traces of the virus from infected individuals, and these results can quickly estimate the pandemic’s impact on an area. I interviewed several members of this initiative on their contributions and perspectives. The Impact of Personality Adaptability on Job Satisfaction
No full text2021 Celebration of Student Research and Creativity presentation"Previous research has shown that personality differentially impacts job satisfaction; e.g. conscientiousness has been shown to be a strong predictor of job satisfaction. This relationship may be over simplified due to the assumption of unidimensonality present in self-report measurement.
We employed data collected using a new response format combining a funnel response format with Item Response Tree modeling to account for three proposed underlying processes of personality: adaptability, traitedness, and trait level. Job flexibility was found to be a significant predictor while conscientiousness was negative. The change detection methods in the remote sensing field are used to detect the change pattern of Greater Cincinnati growth from various perspectives, such as changes in infrastructure, land use and population.
