Get PDFIn this paper, we analyse Emilio Alarcos Llorach’s phonological treatment of the Spanish vowel system. From a historiographical point of view, the analysis of Alarcos’s work, beyond the four editions of the Fonología Española, confirms that he maintained his ideas regarding the number of phonemes and the consideration of vowels as variants of the phonemes /i/ and /u/, while modi- fying, refining and also rejecting some of the arguments put forward in his early publications.En este artículo estudiamos el tratamiento fonológico del subsis- tema vocálico de la lengua española por parte de Emilio Alarcos Llorach (1922- 1998). Desde una perspectiva historiográfica, el análisis de su producción más allá de las cuatro ediciones de la Fonología española permite comprobar el manteni- miento de sus ideas acerca del número de fonemas y la consideración de las semi- vocales y semiconsonantes –como variantes de los fonemas /i/ y /u/–, así como la modificación, precisión y también abandono de algunos de los argumentos presen- tados en sus primeras publicacio

Get PDFThis article recovers two speeches delivered by the Jesuit Bar- tolomé Alcázar to the Real Academia. Although they are held in the archives of the Academy itself, the texts have remained unpublished and have therefore been of difficult access for scholars. The first part describes the speeches and reveals Alcázar’s De rhetorica facultate as the main rhetorical source in one case and his very own Aphthonii Sophistae Progymnasmata in the other. The second part con- tains the edition.Este artículo recupera dos discursos pronunciados por el jesuita Bartolomé Alcázar ante la Real Academia. Aunque disponibles en los archivos de la propia Academia, los textos han quedado inéditos y, en consecuencia, de difí- cil acceso para los estudiosos. Get PDFBased on a corpus of ego-documents (mainly private letters) from the 16th century, the article offers the results of a variationist analysis about factors favoring the survival of the related compound in the relative clauses headed by prep- osition with human antecedent. The first accounts of the related compound come from high prose of the 13th century. In the 15th century came the generalisation of its use. In the century 16th, despite the fact that it maintains a remarkable presence in contexts such as the analyzed in this work –as opposed to quien–, it is observed its gradual decline against other forms to be strengthened in subsequent centuries.A partir de un corpus formado por textos cercanos al polo de la inmediatez comunicativa (sobre todo, cartas privadas) del siglo xvi, el artículo ofrece los resultados de un análisis variacionista en torno a los factores que favore- cen la pervivencia del relativo compuesto el cual en las cláusulas relativas oblicuas con antecedente humano. Los primeros testimonios del relativo compuesto proce- den de la prosa culta del siglo xiii. En el siglo xv se produjo la generalización de su uso. En la centuria siguiente, pese a que mantiene una notable presencia en contex- tos como el analizado en este trabajo –en oposición a quien–, se observa su gradual decadencia frente a otras formas que se consolidarán en siglos posteriores
María Luz Morales y la colección «Las obras maestras al alcance de los niños» de la editorial Araluce ante la censura franquista
Get PDFIn the early twentieth century the publisher Araluce Editorial launched the series «Masterpieces for children», offering a major selection of great classics adapted for children and young adult readers. Although the series predated the Franco regime, the publishers could not avoid the obligatory censorship imposed by the regime during the 1940s and ’50s, and had no choice but to submit to the censor if they wished to continue publishing the collection of small volumes. This article analyses the works which MLM adapted for the Colección Araluce as well as the actions of the censors with regard not only to the contents of the works in question but also to the political past of their adapter.A principios del siglo XX la Editorial Araluce inauguraba la colección «Las obras maestras al alcance de los niños», una importante biblioteca formada por los grandes clásicos adaptados a la infancia y a la juventud. A pesar de que la colección es anterior al franquismo, no por ello pudo esquivar la censura obligatoria que el régimen impuso durante las décadas de los 40 y 50, y tuvo que someterse a ella si quería continuar con la difusión de los pequeños volúmenes que la conformaban. En el artículo se analizan las obras preparadas por María Luz Morales para la Colección Araluce y el comportamiento que ejerció la censura franquista en estos casos, teniendo en cuenta no solo el contenido de los volúmenes sino también el pasado político de la adaptadora
Actitudes lingüísticas implícitas y explícitas en la tradición discursiva epistolar de América y España (ss. XVIII y XIX)
Get PDFIf, for the discipline of history, the analysis of the correspondence between different types of interlocutors has proven to be extraordinarily productive in the recovery of information about social manners and customs, and a people’s sociocultural environment, these documents are equally useful for philology. In addition to providing details of how they were composed, they reveal linguistic atti- tudes that are highly important for the study of linguistic change. This paper discusses the need to use the concept of «discursive traditions», through a review of a broad corpus of letters from the 18th and 19th centuries in America and Spain, in order to draw coherent conclusions regarding the direct or indirect assessments of the language made by speakers from these centuries. They are highly relevant for the study of the reflection of orality in writing, the evolution of spelling and for the appropriate approach to the characterization of the different changes affecting ways of writing Spanish.Si para la disciplina histórica el análisis de la correspondencia entre distintos tipos de interlocutores se ha probado como extraordinariamente productivo en el rescate de información sobre el costumbrismo y el entorno sociocultural de un pueblo, la filología no puede en menos valorar la utilidad de estos documentos, los cuales, además de ofrecer detalles de cómo se componían, dejan entrever actitudes lingüísticas de enorme importancia para el estudio del cambio lingüístico. Este trabajo pone a debate —a través de la revisión de un corpus amplio de cartas de los siglos XVIII y XIX en América y España— la necesidad de recurrir al concepto de «tradiciones discursivas», para extraer conclusiones coherentes sobre las valoraciones que los hablantes de esas centurias emitían sobre la lengua de manera directa o indirecta —y que tanta relevancia tienen para el estudio del reflejo de la oralidad en la escritura, para la evolución de la grafía y para el acercamiento adecuado a la caracterización de los distintos cambios acontecidos en las maneras de escribir del español
