Research on the Integration Creation Strategy of Short Video News in New Media Environment
This paper focuses on the integration and innovation of short video news in the new media environment, systematically analyzes its development status, audience characteristics and challenges, and proposes a four-dimensional innovation strategy of content, technology, business model and communication. It is found that short video news, with its advantages of fragmentation, visualization and strong interaction, fits the information consumption habits of young audiences, but it also faces problems such as weak copyright protection and homogenization of content. Based on this, this paper emphasizes that storytelling, interaction, personalization as the core to achieve content innovation and upgrading, and to improve user experience with the help of cutting-edge technology; at the same time, it explores multiple profit modes such as advertisement implantation, paid content, etc., and builds an all-media communication pattern. The case study shows that Surge News and CCTV News have realized differentiated competition through original content and technological innovation. The study points out that integration and innovation is the key path for short video news to break through the bottleneck and enhance credibility
Audience Labor in Chinese Social Media: A Case Study of Film Reviewers on Douban
With the rapid development of internet technologies, the new media industry has swept into people’s lives at an astonishing pace, bringing about significant changes in global labor relations. Drawing on the theory of digital labor, this article examines audiences within China’s social media by focusing on film reviewers on Douban as a case study. It reconstructs the labor process involved in writing film reviews and explores the issue of autonomy within this context. The study finds that while using Douban, film reviewers invest substantial time and effort into producing cultural content for the platform. In this process, although they appear to possess a certain degree of autonomy and choice, film reviewers are in fact subject to platform control and exploitation. They are often compelled to navigate a delicate balance between adhering to platform rules and asserting their individual agency
Empowerment-Oriented Growth: Practical Pathways for Social Work Agencies in Community-Level Governance
In the process of advancing Chinese modernization and improving the social governance system, grassroots governance is gradually shifting from a “management-oriented” to an “empowerment-oriented” approach. How to stimulate the endogenous motivation of grassroots actors through empowerment mechanisms has become a key issue in promoting the modernization of social governance. Taking Community H in Yinchuan, Ningxia as a typical case, this study adopts a “resources–capabilities–institutions” analytical framework to systematically examine the evolutionary logic and staged characteristics of community empowerment. The findings indicate that empowerment-oriented growth is not a linear process, but rather follows a curvilinear trajectory of “initial empowerment—capacity cultivation—recurring dilemmas—organic growth.” In the initial stage, the concentrated infusion of external resources effectively activated community vitality but also generated dependency risks. During the capacity cultivation stage, resident leaders gradually emerged, and public participation shifted from “passive” to “active.” In the recurring dilemmas stage, administrative absorption and institutional formalization undermined the effectiveness of empowerment, leading to fluctuations. Ultimately, in the stage of organic growth, the integration of resources, maturity of capacities, and institutional embedding interacted to foster sustainable community governance. The study further reveals that resource empowerment provides the conditions, capacity empowerment shapes the driving force, and institutional empowerment ensures the consolidation of outcomes. The dynamic tension and interaction among these three dimensions across different stages constitute the internal logic of empowerment-oriented growth. Therefore, advancing the sustainable development of community governance requires the organic integration of diversified resource coordination, progressive capacity cultivation, and endogenous institutional embedding
Pluralistic Therapy Choices for Neurological and Mental Disorders in Ethnic Minority Areas of Lijiang, China
Lijiang’s medical pluralism blends biomedicine, TCM, and folk practices, yet local perceptions increasingly favor a binary divide ("Western" vs. "Traditional") that marginalizes ritual therapies as superstition. Based on the medical pluralism theory, this essay provides an overview of the current status of traditional medicine in Lijiang area based on individuals’ attitudes, analyzes the setbacks against its development, and explores possible solutions to breathe new life into Lijiang traditional medicine. Using the method of field study, researchers collected Lijiang people’s understanding towards ritual therapy and mental illness, and analyzed their therapy choice for mental illness (mental hospital, psychological counselling, or ritual therapy). The results included answers from multiple interviewees on four perspectives: perception of rituals, understanding of mental illness, attitudes toward modern medicine (mostly trust and priority), and support systems and self-help. The results also included a generalized therapy-choosing process for mental illness: modern medicine is prioritized, followed by psychotherapy, with traditional treatment (herbal and ritual practice) being a last choice. Preservation of traditional treatment requires integrating rituals into mental healthcare through scientific validation (e.g., stress-relief mechanisms) and cultural-tourism initiatives (e.g., meditation experiences)
Research on the Two-Way Empowerment Development Path of Public Art Intervention in Rural Spaces: Taking Quanzhou's Xunpu Village as an Example
Against the backdrop of rural revitalisation, some public art villages have demonstrated the cultural and lifestyle conditions of different regions in the new era while coordinating the future development needs of rural areas. As a form of cultural and artistic communication and interaction with the public, public art plays a significant role in the protection and development of villages through various mediums. Public art is increasingly taking diverse forms in rural areas, with its local relevance and public nature being re-emphasised. This establishes an effective connection between the concept of ‘rural revitalisation’ and the practice of using art to empower rural areas. Simultaneously, public art and rural spaces are gradually forming a mutually beneficial, positive trend. This study takes Quanzhou's Xunpu Village as a case study, delving into the mutually empowering development pathways of public art's intervention in rural spaces, as well as the dimensions of balancing traditional cultural heritage with rural development. It provides new insights and methods for the planning and construction of rural areas
Analysis of the Value of "Monkey Quack Whip" in Community Cultural Construction
This paper delves into the positive role of the intangible cultural heritage dance "Monkey Quack Whip" in enhancing community cohesion, inheriting traditional culture, and enriching the spiritual and cultural life of residents in community cultural construction. And propose corresponding countermeasures for the challenges faced in community cultural construction. The "Monkey Quack Whip" dance, which combines folk tales with physical art, enlivenes the community atmosphere with crisp whip sounds, cheerful drumbeats and lively dance moves, and attracts residents of all ages. From the exchange of skills in daily rehearsals to the collective appearance in festival performances, from the personal instruction of intangible cultural heritage inheritors to family group learning, it strengthens cultural identity through interaction and builds a community of cultural memory. It is not only a carrier of community cultural construction, but also an important bond that brings people closer together and promotes community harmony
Gendered Class Struggles and Marxist Feminist Interventions: An Analytical Discussion
In African societies, the class struggle cannot be separated from the gendered realities of colonial legacies, patriarchal societies, and capitalist systems. Women are the essential carriers of unpaid reproductive labour, including taking care of families and administering homes, whereas men experience enormous psychological and economic pressures to be the providers. This paper examines how class and gender intersect to perpetuate inequalities among both men and women, utilising Marxist feminism as the analytical framework. Drawing on African literary texts such as Lauretta Ngcobo’s And They Didn’t Die, Ukamaka Olisakwe’s Ogadinma, and Femi Osofisan’s Morountodun, the study examines how the lived experiences of exploitation and resilience are portrayed in literature and reflect real social conditions. The analysis also combines statistics and policy-related knowledge to strengthen the argument for radical interventions. The recommendations include acknowledging and compensating unpaid work, revising gender-based workplace rules, and addressing the culture of toxic masculinity through education and community initiatives. Drawing on theoretical reflection, literary analysis, and substantive suggestions, this paper proposes an intersectional reconsideration of justice: changing the conception so that class and gender are not viewed in isolation from one another but are instead viewed as interacting forces that have to be addressed simultaneously in order to see any genuine chance of success
Research on the Demand and Satisfaction of the Elderly in Beijing for Assistive Devices and Digital Intelligent Products of Traditional Chinese Medicine under the Background of the Silver Economy
As China accelerates its aging process, the trend of deep aging poses an urgent need for smart elderly care services. The State Council's "14th Five-Year Plan for the Development of National Aging Services" explicitly puts forward the goal of "aging in place", requiring the improvement of community elderly care service capabilities through technological innovation. In this context, this study focuses on the demand and satisfaction of the elderly population in Beijing with assistive devices and digital intelligent products of traditional Chinese medicine, aiming to reveal the contradiction between supply and demand in the market through a hybrid research method (online questionnaire survey and offline field investigation), and to provide basis and improvement suggestions for product optimization, industrial upgrading and publicity channels. The research team covered more than 1,000 elderly people aged 60 and above in Beijing through stratified sampling, combined with questionnaire surveys and field interviews, and used descriptive statistical analysis, K-means cluster analysis, Pearson chi-square test analysis, and variance test to reveal the consumption status, demand differences, product usage pain points, and consumption barriers of the elderly group. The data showed that there were significant differences in demand for the two types of products among the elderly, and preferences and usage varied among the elderly of different ages, genders and health conditions. The core demands were concentrated on functional practicality, age-friendly design and price rationality, but there were significant structural contradictions in the market supply. Through Pearson correlation analysis and multiple linear regression models, it was found that after-sales service is the primary driver of satisfaction with assistive devices, and quality and after-sales service jointly determine satisfaction with digital products of traditional Chinese medicine. Based on the findings, the report proposes market stratification optimization, consumer conversion strategies, and marketing strategies aimed at enhancing the acceptance and satisfaction of elderly people with smart health care products, providing data support for the construction of a smart elderly care ecosystem, and promoting the high-quality development of the health care industry
A Corpus-Based Critical Discourse Analysis of Reuters' News Coverage of the 2025 Sino-U.S. Trade War
This study conducts a Corpus-Based Critical Discourse Analysis (CBCDA) to analyze Reuters news coverage on the Sino-U.S. Trade War in 2025, using a mixed approach that combines Corpus Linguistics (CL) with Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA). The study mainly examines how Reuters constructs narratives surrounding the trade war. It focuses on linguistic patterns in the period from February 1 to May 1, 2025, a time marked by intensified conflict. By analyzing keywords, collocates, and concordances, the study uncovers ideology in Reuters’ reporting, revealing asymmetries in the portrayal of the United States and China. The findings suggest that Reuters’ coverage positions the U.S. as the active agent in the conflict, with China portrayed as reactive and defensive. The study also explores the broader implications of these discursive choices in shaping global perceptions of economic conflict, highlighting the role of media in constructing power dynamics and ideologies. This research contributes to the understanding of media neutrality, global power relations, and the discursive construction of economic narratives
Language Use and Preservation Among the Naxi Ethnic Group in China: A Sociolinguistic Review and Recommendations
The Naxi ethnic group in China possesses distinctive linguistic and cultural characteristics. Its Naxi spoken language and Dongba written script are of great values to the world’s rich linguistic diversity. However, as Chinese Han language dominates most sociolinguistic contexts, Naxi native language is at great risk of being endangered. An increasing proportion of Naxi youth no longer speak their native language, not to mention the rarely transmitted Dongba written script. Protecting and preserving the Naxi language is not only the responsibility of the indigenous community, but also an undeniable task for both the local and central governments. Actions such as implementing high quality bilingual education of Naxi language in elementary and secondary schools, launching and promoting programs about Naxi language, literature and cultures are discussed.
