Mathematical Quality of Instruction in Primary Schools of El Salvador: A Study Based on Video Lessons
Get PDFThis study evaluates the quality of mathematics instruction in fifth grade in El Salvador and its relationship with students’ academic performance. Twenty videotaped classes were analyzed using the Mathematical Quality of Instruction (MQI) framework, and a test was administered to 335 students to assess the cognitive domains of knowledge, application, and reasoning. The results show that most of the MQI items were rated as ‘Not Present’ or ‘Low’ level, suggesting that the quality of instruction needs improvement. In addition, it was found that greater richness in mathematics instruction decreases students’ ability to apply knowledge and solve problems. This result, contrary to expectations, is attributed to the lack of active participation of students in the learning process and the atypical development of the classes due to the fact that teachers were aware of being observed.departmental bulletin pape

Science Classes in English at a Super Science High School (2nd Report): Ionic Bonding, Genetic Inheritance and Neural Transmission
Get PDFグローバル社会における理数教育の充実・発展に寄与することを目指して，本研究では，グローバルな視野を持つ教員の養成に取り組む大学と，地域に貢献できるグローバル人材の育成やSTEAM教育に注力している徳島県内のスーパーサイエンスハイスクール（SSH）が連携し，高校生が英語で諸外国の理科や数学の授業を体験する理数教育を実践してきた。今年度は，イオン結合に関する化学の授業と，遺伝，神経伝達と色の視覚認識に関する生物の各授業を実践した。また，留学生と高校生とが，各国の文化と学校での探究活動を互いに紹介し合う交流活動を行った。本実践により，大学および高校がそれぞれ注力する教員養成および人材育成において有用となる教育効果が得られた。For contributing to the enrichment and development of science and mathematics education in a global society, we have conducted science and mathematics education for high school students to experience foreign science and mathematics classes in English in collaboration with a teacher training college engaging in training teachers with a global perspective and a Super Science High Schools (SSH) in Tokushima Prefecture committed to fostering global and local human resources and STEAM education. Specifically, we performed a chemistry class about ionic bonding and two biology classes about genetic inheritance and neural transmission and visual perception of colors. An exchange activity between international students and high school students were also held by introducing the cultures of their countries and research activities, respectively. This practice was found to provide both the university and the senior high school with useful educational effects on global teacher training and human resource development, respectively.departmental bulletin pape
A Survey Study Focusing on Anxiety Before and After Entering Junior High School Analysis Using Text Mining Methods
Get PDF本研究は，小学校６年生・中学校１年生を対象に学校生活アンケート調査を実施し，生徒が記述した内容をもとにテキストマイニングによる分析を行い，中学校生活に対する不安の構造を明らかにすることを目的とした。その結果として，小中移行期に子どもの学校適応が低下する理由として5つの理由が生徒の不安感につながっていることが明らかになった。また，テキストマイニングによる記述内容の分析結果から，学校教育活動が不安感に影響を及ぼすことが示唆された。This study aimed to clarify the structure of anxiety about junior high school life by conducting a school life questionnaire survey targeting sixth graders in elementary school and first graders in junior high school, and analyzing the contents written by the students using textmining.As a result, it became clear that five reasons for the decline in children's school adaptation during the transition period from elementary to junior high school are linked to students' anxiety. Exploring the Challenges Faced by Teachers in Implementing a Competency-Based Approach in Teaching EFL in Mali
Get PDFThe purpose of this study is to find out the challenges faced by teachers in the process of implementing the Competency-Based Approach (CBA) in teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL) in Mali. The sample size of the study consisted 92 teachers and 5 regional pedagogical inspectors. quantitative and qualitative data were collected using the questionnaire and interview guide. Quantitative data were analyzed using SPSS 25, while qualitative data were thematically analyzed to complement the quantitative findings. Findings revealed that EFL teachers faced enormous challenges in the implementation of CBA. The most frequently mentioned challenges were limited teaching time, large class sizes, and a shortage of CBA materials further complicate the implementation of CBA in EFL classes. The examination-oriented syllabus prioritizes curriculum completion over demonstrating competencies, and practical applicability is further hindered by language barriers, time constraints, and limited collaboration among teachers.departmental bulletin pape

Sandplay group for schoolteachers (2): effects and issues of one-off training
Get PDFThis study aimed to verify whether a one-off Sandplay group would be as effective in improving educational consultation skills as an ongoing training. Two different one-off trainings were implemented (Practice 1, Practice 2) and compared. It was discovered the Sandplay group had two main effects on schoolteachers: 1) promoting selfunderstanding and understanding of others, and 2) providing refreshment, increasing self-affirmation, and improving mental health. And the second effect could be achieved even with just one-off training, as long as participants had enough time away from their daily lives to immerse themselves in the experience. On the other hand, the study also suggested that conducting short Sandplay experience in everyday places and among everyday human relationships might make it difficult to deepen the experience and could pose a risk of it becoming an invasive experience for the participants.departmental bulletin pape
Bullying Prevention Efforts and Evaluation Using the Logic Model in Elementary Schools
Get PDFOne of the practical challenges in anti-bullying programs is the problem of program evaluation. The purpose of this study is to plan, implement, and evaluate programs by means of a logic model, and to identify the issues of the implemented programs and the advantages and challenges of implementing programs by means of a logic model. As a result of the practice, issues were found in the process, program theory, and evaluability assessment of the bullying prevention program by the logic model. On the other hand, the advantages of introducing the logic model were found in the ability to verify the program itself in detail, to provide points for improvement, and to share useful information as a formative evaluation. These findings suggest that introducing and evaluating a logic model into an anti-bullying program may be effective in improving the program and its effectiveness.本研究はJSPS科研費JP22K20279の助成を受けたものdepartmental bulletin pape
