Sudan: Emergency and Resilience Plan, 2026–2028
Since the eruption of conflict in April 2023, the Sudan is now the world’s largest humanitarian, displacement and hunger crisis, with conditions continuing to deteriorate rapidly. Famine has been confirmed in El Fasher and Kadugli, while a high risk of Famine persists across a further 20 areas in Greater Darfur and Greater Kordofan. The crisis is driven by widespread hostilities, mass internal displacement, significant refugee outflows, climate shocks and stressors, economic collapse and restricted humanitarian access, which continue to impede the delivery of life-saving assistance. Agriculture supplies 80 percent of the national food supply and remains the backbone of the Sudan’s economy; however, the sector has been severely disrupted. Restoring agricultural production is therefore central to the country’s recovery and long-term stability. Through its Emergency and Resilience Plan (2026–2028), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) aims to reach 2 465 000 households with a budget of USD 230.5 million to address the Sudan’s deepening food security and livelihood crisis, improve food security and nutrition, reduce dependence on humanitarian assistance, strengthen resilient livelihoods and contribute to lasting peace and progress towards durable solutions
National Focal Points designated for the work on Aquatic Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture
Equipping countries through improved agricultural policies, early warning, and response mechanisms
To effectively mobilize support and inform strategic investment, FAO has developed a set of concise four-page documents that present its One Health and animal health service offer for 2025–2030. These briefs aim to clearly communicate the value, scope, and urgency of investing in integrated health solutions that protect food systems, livelihoods, and global health security. Designed for decision-makers and partners, the documents provide a focused entry point for collaboration and co-financing discussions
Regulatory options to address food e-commerce in national legislation
This legislative study examines the challenges of food e-commerce, particularly with regards to food safety and consumer protection, and looks at how – and first of all, if – different legal systems have addressed this phenomenon from a regulatory standpoint. Even if online trade of food has grown at an unprecedented speed in recent years, food e-commerce regulation – both international and national – has not necessarily followed the same pace. This legislative study identifies several recommendations to guide policy and rule makers in their mission to build effective regulatory mechanisms towards safety and compliance on food e-commerce channels. It suggests a multidisciplinary regulatory approach, integrating existing frameworks with new rules where necessary. Considering the inherent cross-border nature of food e-commerce and the extensive role of online platforms in today’s economy, this study also focuses on the importance of international regulatory guidance and the involvement of private self- and co-regulatory schemes to complement national frameworks
