Corpus-Based Language Learning Among EFL Learners in an Environmental Context
Background:
This research presents a case study on the valuable contribution of corpus linguistics to English instruction with an environmental focus, aiming to raise environmental awareness among students. The study explores the role of corpus linguistics as an effective tool for teaching English in the context of comprehending and discussing environmental issues.
Methodology:
To achieve this, the research utilizes the News on the Web (NOW) corpus to identify common vocabulary in environmental texts. The study was conducted with a group of 13 students in a Specialized Listening and Speaking class, with an intermediate level of English proficiency. The research was conducted over three terms. Initially, students were provided with 75 words from the News on the Web (NOW) corpus, complete with definitions and example sentences. Subsequently, they were tasked with writing three sentences for each word and memorizing their usage within an environmental context. Finally, the students were tested by having to provide talks on 15 randomly selected words.
Findings:
The research findings indicate that 10 students were able to proficiently use 60.51% of the environmental words, while three students encountered difficulties in using these terms within the environmental context. Seven students demonstrated their ability to connect sentences coherently, utilizing proper grammar and pronunciation.
Conclusion:
This research suggests that most students successfully integrated environmental lexical items into their speaking, showcasing proficiency in grammar and pronunciation. However, most of the students (11 out of 13) require further support in structuring their speech cohesively. Rather than constructing a coherent narrative, they often employ words in isolation.
Originality:
This underscores the importance of using corpus-based methods to provide relevant vocabulary and fostering the skills necessary for constructing well-structured and cohesive speeches.

The Role and Challenges of Grammar Teaching in Developing Students' English Writing Skills
Grammar teaching plays a crucial role in developing students' English writing skills, particularly at the university level. Academic writing demands the use of appropriate grammatical structures to convey ideas logically and clearly. However, in practice, grammar teaching faces various challenges, such as lack of student interest, monotonous learning methods, and limited learning time. This study aims to examine the role of grammar teaching and the challenges faced in improving students' writing skills. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach, using observation, interviews, and document analysis as data collection techniques. This study demonstrates that a good understanding of grammar significantly contributes to the quality of students' writing. However, challenges such as negative transfer from the first language (L1), low learning motivation, and a lack of varied pedagogical approaches require attention. These findings suggest the need for innovation in grammar teaching methods to effectively support the improvement of students' writing skills

The Dark Side of Dependency: Negative Consequences of EFL Students' Use of ChatGPT for Academic Writing
The need for artificial intelligence-based tools like ChatGPT is rising among EFL students in scientific writing, as these technologies enhance the efficiency and clarity of their written work. This study underscores the detrimental effects of over dependence on these tools, particularly regarding students' critical thinking skills, creativity, and academic integrity. Data was acquired by successively implementing a mixed-methods strategy, which involved delivering questionnaires to 60 students from the English Education program, followed by semi-structured interviews with chosen responders. Quantitative results indicate that although ChatGPT assists in generating ideas and enhancing grammar, its utilization frequently diminishes analytical depth, undermines the writer's authentic voice, and heightens the likelihood of plagiarism. Qualitative findings validated these results, as students articulated apprehensions regarding diminished creativity, drive to learn, and independent thought. This study finds that although ChatGPT might serve as a valuable resource, excessive dependence on it may impede the cultivation of students' intellectual faculties and ethical standards. Consequently, educational institutions must to establish explicit norms and promote the utilization of technology in a critical and ethical fashion. This study addresses a research deficiency by highlighting the adverse effects of AI utilization on EFL students' academic writing, a topic that has not been extensively explored previously
Enhancing English Vocabulary Acquisition of Indonesian EFL Students through Auditory Feedback in Quizizz
This quasi-experimental study investigates the efficacy of auditory feedback in Quizizz, a gamified learning platform, for enhancing vocabulary acquisition among Indonesian EFL learners. Sixty-two 11th-grade students from SMA 1 Tenggarong were assigned to an experimental group (n=34) using Quizizz with auditory feedback and a control group (n=28) receiving traditional teacher-led instruction. Over four 60-minute sessions across two weeks, both groups studied identical vocabulary content. Pre- and post-tests employing the Vocabulary Size Test (Nation & Beglar, 2007) measured receptive vocabulary gains, while a bilingual Intrinsic Motivation Inventory (Ryan & Deci, 2000) assessed perceptions. Results revealed significantly greater vocabulary improvement in the experimental group (mean gain +0.20 vs. control's -0.28; *t*(60)=2.34, *p*=.023, *d*=0.42), with notably higher motivation scores across all subscales (Interest, Competence, Effort, Value; *p*<.05). These findings align with Mayer's (2009) Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning, demonstrating that auditory-enhanced digital instruction outperforms conventional methods in both cognitive and affective domains. The study advocates for integrating multimodal feedback in EFL pedagogy, particularly in contexts seeking to optimize limited instructional tim
