School Principal’s Leadership Strategies in Building Collaboration Among the School, Parents, and Community at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Muslimin Indonesia Center
The principal’s leadership strategy in building collaboration is a series of planned and structured steps taken by the principal to encourage, empower, and unite the school, parents, and the community to actively participate in the educational process at school. This study aims to identify and analyze the principal’s leadership strategies in building effective collaboration between the school, parents, and the community at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Muslimin Indonesia Center (MIC) Samarinda City. This research uses a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results show that: (1) The principal implements adaptive and participatory leadership strategies, such as establishing open communication, holding regular meetings, and involving parents and the community in decision-making and school program implementation. (2) The obstacles and challenges faced include a lack of awareness and time from parents, minimal two-way communication, and limited community resources. (3) To overcome these obstacles, the principal conducts communication initiatives, designs attractive collaborative programs, and provides training for parents and the community to better understand their important role in education. (4) The principal also optimizes the role of parents and the community by empowering them in various school activities. The conclusion of this study is that effective and contextual leadership strategies have proven capable of building a solid partnership between the school, parents, and the community, thus contributing positively to improving the quality of learning and strengthening students’ character. Strong collaboration among these three parties is essential to support the improvement of education quality and the holistic development of students. However, the involvement of parents and the community in school activities remains low and is not yet optimally structured, thus requiring the active role of the principal as a leader and facilitato
The Implementation of The Merdeka Curriculum for Englih
The nationwide implementation of Indonesia's Merdeka Curriculum, emphasizing student-centered learning, has limited empirical research that has examined how English teachers navigate the pedagogical transition from traditional teacher-centered approaches in actual classroom contexts. This qualitative case study investigated the implementation experiences of English teachers adopting the Merdeka Curriculum, focusing on their strategies, challenges, and outcomes in transitioning to student-centered teaching approaches. Using purposive sampling, in-depth interviews were conducted with two experienced English teachers at SMP N 9 Loa Kulu, Kutai Kartanegara. Data were analyzed using Miles, Huberman, and Saldana's (2014) interactive model to identify implementation patterns and emerging themes. Findings revealed that both teachers demonstrated a comprehensive understanding of the curriculum's constructivist principles and successfully implemented student-centered strategies through project-based activities, innovative assessment methods, and cultural integration approaches. Teachers effectively fostered 21st-century skills development through collaborative projects and authentic communication practices. However, significant implementation challenges emerged, including assessment transition difficulties, increased material development workload, limited technology resources, and insufficient administrative support. Moreover, despite these obstacles, teachers reported positive learning outcomes, including enhanced student engagement, improved critical thinking, and better collaborative skills. Key recommendations include continuous professional development, improved resource allocation, and stronger institutional support systems. While this small-scale study limits generalizability, it provides valuable insights into the practical realities of curriculum implementation and highlights the critical need for systematic support to achieve the Merdeka Curriculum's transformative educational goals in Indonesian EFL context

The Impact of Home Language and Literacy Environment on Children's Learning Outcomes
BackgroundThe Home Language and Literacy Environment (HLLE) is critical for children's language development, cognitive growth, and academic success. In bilingual and multilingual households, HLLE influences linguistic proficiency, executive function, and social integration. While numerous studies emphasize HLLE’s potential benefits, significant gaps remain concerning the influence of socioeconomic status, parental involvement, and access to technological tools in diverse home contexts. MethodologyThis Systematic Literature Review (SLR) synthesizes findings from 23 empirical studies (both qualitative and quantitative) published between 2019 and 2024, selected from 2,098 records across Crossref, Google Scholar, Scopus, and Web of Science. A thematic and quantitative synthesis categorizes results based on HLLE components, parental engagement, socioeconomic factors, and technology use.FindingsHLLE supports cognitive flexibility, literacy, and executive function. Parental involvement, especially in shared reading and storytelling, strongly links to higher vocabulary scores and literacy rates. Children in HLLE-rich environments show significant gains in language and reading, with vocabulary improvements of 20–30% and more conversational turns per hour, as measured by tools like LENA. Metrics such as adult word count and child vocalizations underscore HLLE’s impact. However, limited access to books, interactions, and technology due to socioeconomic gaps continues to widen literacy disparities. While tools like LENA offer valuable insights, challenges in accessibility and equity remain.ConclusionHLLE is essential for bilingual and multilingual literacy development. Addressing parental literacy support, socioeconomic inequalities, and digital literacy initiatives is crucial for equitable learning outcomes. Future research should assess HLLE’s long-term impact on academic success.OriginalityThis study offers a comprehensive synthesis of HLLE research, integrating linguistic, sociocultural, and quantitative perspectives to inform educators, policymakers, and researchers
Translating for Young Minds: Techniques to Ensure Accuracy and Acceptability in Children’s Bible Stories
Background: Children’s literature, particularly bible stories, plays a crucial role in shaping children’s moral values. However, translation quality in children’s bible stories is often overlooked, impacting accuracy and acceptability. This study examines the translation techniques used in Classic Children’s Bible, assessing their influence on translation quality, particularly accuracy and acceptability.Methodology: This descriptive qualitative study is product-oriented research which was focused on 43 children’s Bible stories. Data were collected from Classic Children’s Bible and its Indonesian translation. They were analyzed through content analysis, taxonomy analysis, componential analysis, and cultural theme analysis.Findings: The study found that some techniques influence translation quality in terms of accuracy and acceptability. The mostly used techniques (established equivalence, transposition, and modulation) contribute to accuracy and acceptability. In addition, it also found the translator’s effort in maintaining the original story through correction technique. However, accuracy and acceptability are considered to gain a nearly perfect score because of several techniques (discursive creation and deletion). Conclusion: This study confirms the crucial role of translation techniques in ensuring accuracy and acceptability in children’s Bible story translations. Translation techniques such as established equivalence, transposition, and modulation were effective while discursive creation, deletion, and reduction reduced accuracy.Originality: The translation of children’s Bible stories has been studied primarily in terms of methods, techniques, and quality. Howeverseveral studies examined some linguistic parts, not the whole story. In filling the gap, this study investigated the translation techniques in 43 children’s Bible story translations as the whole story
Writing Self-Efficacy in English Language Learning: A Study of University Students' Academic Achievement and Motivational Factors
This study examines the relationship between writing self-efficacy and academic performance among university students enrolled in English writing courses. Using a mixed-methods approach, data were collected from 150 university students across three institutions in East Java, Indonesia. The study employed the Questionnaire of English Writing Self-Efficacy (QEWSE) and semi-structured interviews to assess students' self-efficacy beliefs and identify influencing factors. Results revealed a significant positive correlation between writing self-efficacy and academic performance (r = .67, p < .001). Key predictors of writing self-efficacy included previous English learning experience (β = .34, p < .001), quality of instructor feedback (β = .28, p < .001), peer collaboration opportunities (β = .22, p < .01), and perceived task difficulty (β = -.19, p < .05). Qualitative findings highlighted five major themes: mastery experiences, instructor feedback quality, peer support, task relevance, and technological resources. The study provides empirical evidence for the importance of writing self-efficacy in L2 contexts and offers practical implications for English language pedagogy in higher education. The findings highlight actionable strategies for improving English writing instruction, including the role of peer support, feedback mechanisms, and task design, particularly in EFL university settings
