    Integrating Teaching Factory Method in ESP Maritime English: Cadets' Perceptions and Implications For Maritime Training

    Background: The Teaching Factory (TEFA) method has emerged as a practical approach in ESP Maritime English, particularly in enhancing cadets’ participation in simulated maritime scenarios such as loading and unloading communication, onboard communication checking, and goods tracking via phone. Grounded in experiential learning theory, TEFA bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application, preparing cadets for industry demands.Methodology: This study used qualitative case study approach to explore seventh-year maritime cadets’ perceptions of the TEFA method. The subjects were seventh semester maritime cadets from maritime academy. Data collection involved classroom observations and semi-structured interviews, focusing on the cadets’ engagement, confidence, and learning outcomes.Findings: The results showed that 65% of cadets agreed that TEFA made learning Maritime English easier, while 60% found the method enjoyable and engaging. Additionally, 55% of cadets reported reduced anxiety, attributing their increased confidence to the hands-on learning experience provided by TEFA simulations. However, 15% of cadets remained neutral, expressing the need for more structured guidance and additional practice to adapt to the interactive learning approach fully.Conclusion: This study concludes that TEFA effectively bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical maritime communication, making learning more industry relevant. Future research should examine blended learning methods, digital feedback systems, and long-term evaluations to strengthen TEFA’s role in improving cadets’ communication skills and preparedness for maritime operations. Integrating online and practical training can enhance learning flexibility while reinforcing real-world application through virtual simulations. Digital feedback tools can help cadets refining pronunciation and fluency by providing immediate assessments and personalized guidance.Originality: This study addresses a gap in understanding how TEFA influences cadets’ perceptions and learning outcomes in ESP Maritime English, particularly in simulated maritime scenarios. It provides insights into the method’s effectiveness and areas for improvement, offering a foundation for future innovations in maritime education

    Optimizing the Use of Instagram Captions as a Teaching Medium to Enhance Students' Descriptive Writing Skills

    Background: Instagram captions play an important role in digital communication and can be used as an innovative tool in writing instruction. By encouraging creativity and clarity, captions help students practice meaningful writing through a familiar platform. This study aims to examine the implementation of Instagram captions in teaching descriptive texts and assess their impact on students' writing skills and motivation.Methodology:This research employed classroom action research (CAR) design, conducted in two cycles, each consisting of five meetings, with the aim of improving tenth-grade students' descriptive writing skills using Instagram as a teaching media. In the planning phase, lesson plans were developed incorporating Instagram post caption activities. During the implementation phase, students were engaged in writing descriptive texts by creating captions for photos on Instagram. Observations were made throughout the teaching process, with field notes documenting the students' participation and enthusiasm. Data were collected through pre-test and post-test assessments to measure students' writing skills, and qualitative data from observations were analyzed to assess classroom dynamics. Findings:The findings of this research indicate a significant improvement in students' descriptive writing skills after the implementation of Instagram post captions as a teaching media. In the pre-test, the mean score was 75.94, with only 50% of students meeting the minimum achievement criteria (KKM). However, after the intervention, the post-test mean score increased to 80.16, with 100% of students achieving the KKM. This demonstrates a 55.57% improvement in students' writing abilities. Additionally, observations during the lessons revealed that students were more engaged and enthusiastic throughout the process, suggesting that Instagram captions effectively captured their interest and contributed to a more active and interactive classroom environment. Conclusion:In conclusion, the use of Instagram post captions as a teaching media has proven to be an effective strategy for improving students' descriptive writing skills in the tenth grade at SMAN 3 Kuningan. The research demonstrated a significant improvement in students' writing performance, with all students meeting the minimum achievement criteria by the end of the study. The integration of Instagram into the learning process not only enhanced students' writing skills but also increased their engagement and enthusiasm during lessons. Therefore, Instagram post captioning can be considered a valuable and innovative tool for teaching writing, particularly in descriptive text, and can be applied in similar educational settings to foster student creativity and motivation in writing.Originality:This study offers an original approach by utilizing Instagram post captions to improve students' descriptive writing skills, integrating social media as an effective tool in enhancing language learning outcomes

    Penelitian ini membahas penerapan Manajemen Mutu Terpadu (Total Quality Management atau TQM) dalam upaya meningkatkan layanan pendidikan pada Taman Kanak-Kanak (TK) Al Azhar. TQM merupakan pendekatan manajemen yang bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kualitas secara menyeluruh melalui partisipasi semua pihak yang terlibat. Fokus utama dari penerapan TQM di TK Al Azhar meliputi komitmen manajemen terhadap peningkatan mutu, pelibatan seluruh pemangku kepentingan, dan pengembangan budaya organisasi yang mendukung perbaikan berkelanjutan. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian adalah kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif. Selain itu, strategi implementasi TQM melibatkan penetapan standar mutu, audit dan evaluasi rutin, manajemen proses yang efektif, serta program pelatihan dan pengembangan bagi guru dan staf. Hasil dari penerapan TQM ini menunjukkan peningkatan kualitas pembelajaran, kepuasan peserta didik dan orang tua, efisiensi operasional, serta pengembangan profesional guru dan staf. Dengan demikian, penerapan TQM di TK Al Azhar berhasil menciptakan lingkungan pendidikan yang lebih bermutu dan berorientasi pada kebutuhan serta perkembangan peserta didik

    Leadership Styles and the Sustainability of Community Empowerment Initiatives for Educational Advancement in a Learning Center: A Systematic Literature

    Effective leadership plays a crucial role in determining the sustainability of community empowerment initiatives in educational advancement, yet the relationship between leadership styles and long-term program sustainability in learning centers remains underexplored. This systematic literature review aims to examine the relationship between leadership styles and sustainability of community empowerment initiatives for educational advancement in learning centers, identify contributing factors to program sustainability, and analyze how contextual characteristics moderate leadership effectiveness. Following PRISMA 2020 guidelines, this review analyzed 24 studies published between 2008-2025 retrieved from Scopus database. Articles were systematically screened using predetermined inclusion criteria focusing on leadership styles, community empowerment, and educational contexts. Data extraction covered bibliographic information, methodological characteristics, contextual factors, and key findings. Thematic analysis was conducted to synthesize findings across studies. Transformational leadership emerged as the most effective style for promoting sustainable community empowerment, demonstrated through enhanced vision creation, stakeholder engagement, and distributed leadership practices. Authentic leadership development programs showed significant impact on breaking barriers and creating sustainable empowerment opportunities. Key sustainability factors include gender-inclusive approaches, community coalition building, empowering supervision mechanisms, and systematic quality management. Contextual moderators such as cultural background, institutional size, resource availability, and program orientation significantly influence leadership effectiveness. Technology-mediated leadership approaches show promise for extending reach and impact of empowerment initiatives. Sustainable community empowerment requires integrated leadership models combining transformational, authentic, and distributed approaches with systematic attention to contextual factors. Success depends on both individual leadership capabilities and supportive organizational systems that facilitate collaboration, inclusion, and quality management. Future research should prioritize longitudinal studies, cross-cultural comparisons, and technology-mediated leadership development

    Penelitian ini bertujuan memperoleh pemahaman komprehensif mengenai penerapan manajemen peserta didik dalam meningkatkan kedisiplinan belajar siswa di MA Laboratorium Jambi. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif dengan lokasi penelitian di MA Laboratorium Jambi. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara mendalam dengan kepala madrasah dan beberapa siswa untuk menggali informasi terkait kebijakan kesiswaan, strategi peningkatan disiplin, peran guru, serta kerja sama dengan orang tua. Analisis dilakukan melalui proses reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa manajemen peserta didik telah diterapkan melalui pendataan keterlambatan, pemberian sanksi edukatif, razia atribut, pembiasaan ibadah, serta pemberian penghargaan bagi siswa disiplin. Meskipun demikian, tingkat kedisiplinan belum merata karena masih terdapat siswa dan guru yang tidak konsisten menaati aturan. Secara keseluruhan, manajemen peserta didik berpengaruh positif terhadap pembentukan kedisiplinan, peningkatan keteraturan belajar, dan penguatan nilai religius. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa pengelolaan peserta didik sudah berjalan cukup baik, tetapi membutuhkan peningkatan konsistensi guru, pendekatan pembinaan yang lebih humanis, dan kerja sama lebih efektif antara madrasah, siswa, dan orang tua

    Health literacy from an early age plays an important role in shaping a healthy lifestyle for children. One aspect that needs to be introduced is an understanding of healthy drinks in order to build good consumption habits. This study aims to analyze the implementation of health literacy activities through the introduction and practice of consuming healthy drinks in early childhood. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. The subjects of the study consisted of 25 early childhood education institutions (PAUD), namely RA Masyithoh Wareng Butuh Purworejo who participated in health literacy activities for one month. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis techniques to understand children's consumption patterns and responses to various types of healthy drinks that were introduced. The results showed that of the 25 children who participated, 95% preferred fruit juice, 75% did not like ginger wedhang, 80% preferred turmeric and tamarind herbal tea, and 100% preferred milk. This activity not only increased children's understanding of the benefits of healthy drinks but also created a fun learning experience. Children's enthusiasm increased as they tried various nutritious drinks and actively participated in activities. In conclusion, the implementation of health literacy through healthy drinks activities is effective in increasing early childhood awareness of the importance of healthy drink consumption patterns. It is hoped that this activity can be widely implemented to build a foundation for a healthy lifestyle from an early age

    A Teachers Role in Addressing Challenges and Strategies in Secondary English Teaching

    This study explores the multifaceted role of English teachers in addressing the instructional challenges encountered at the secondary school level in Samarinda, Indonesia. Given the increasing demand for English proficiency and the limitations within English as a Foreign Language (EFL) contexts, this research investigates the core obstacles faced by educators and the strategies they implement to enhance student learning outcomes. A qualitative phenomenological approach was employed, using structured interviews with purposively selected English teachers based on experience, educational background, teaching methodology, and school location. Thematic analysis revealed three principal themes: instructional challenges (e.g., time constraints, student apathy, technical limitations), pedagogical considerations in choosing learning strategies, and adaptive solutions such as differentiated instruction and peer collaboration. The findings highlight teachers’ critical role in adjusting instructional methods to students' diverse needs and utilizing collaborative networks to overcome resource limitations. The study contributes original insight by focusing on localized, real-world teacher experiences in a specific urban-rural Indonesian setting an area that remains underrepresented in existing literature. It underscores the necessity of systemic support and continuous professional development for EFL teachers navigating complex classroom dynamics

    Exploring Learning Motivation Through Contextual Learning in ESP Classes: A Study on Automotive Engineering Students

    This research investigated how contextual learning influences students’ motivation and English proficiency in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) classes for automotive engineering students. Motivated by the disconnect between general English curricula and students’ vocational goals, this research applies contextual strategies aligned with the ARCS motivational model—Attention, Relevance, Confidence, and Satisfaction. A total of 91 students participated, and data were collected using a validated questionnaire. Statistical analyses, including Cronbach’s alpha (0.851), descriptive statistics, t-tests, and multiple regression, were used. The findings reveal that contextual learning significantly enhances students’ motivation, especially in the areas of relevance and attention, and contributes positively to their English language performance. Regression analysis showed that motivational factors explained 18.1% of the variance in English proficiency scores, with “Relevance” emerging as the strongest predictor. Students reported higher satisfaction and engagement when learning materials reflected their professional context. This research confirms that integrating real-world content into ESP instruction not only improves student motivation but also supports linguistic outcomes. These results advocate for ESP curricula that are closely tied to industry-related content to better equip vocational students for future professional demands
