ANALYSIS OF CROSS-CULTURAL COMMUNICATION CHALLENGES IN THE MOVIE ‘OUTSOURCED’ (2006)
Get PDFCross-cultural communication has sparked many cultural misunderstandings in today’s world. This happens because of the challenges faced by people from different cultural backgrounds who communicate with each other without having knowledge or familiarity with each other cultures. Besides, different cultural values can be one of the main reasons for cross-cultural communication challenges to happen. This study aims to identify the cross-cultural communication challenges faced by the American and Indian main characters in the movie ‘Outsourced’ (2006). This study investigates the cross-cultural communication challenges faced by the main characters from two different countries: America and India and how the challenges affect them. The researcher employed a qualitative research design by using content analysis to identify the challenges faced by them. The researcher employed two types of data: primary and secondary data, to collect the best materials to support this study to have a better understanding of the study. The researcher employed the purposive sampling method to select the movie that depicted the cross-cultural communication challenges. In this study, the researchers used coding guidelines and coding themes to get the relevant answers to the research questions. The researcher analysed six themes according to the Stumbling Block in Intercultural Communication by Laray M. Barna (1994) to answer the research questions of this study. The results are presented in a table to get a clear view of data on the cross-cultural communication challenges. This study revealed the common challenges of cross-cultural communication faced by people from different cultures based on the movie ‘Outsourced’ (2006) such as the Assumption to Similarity, Language Differences, Nonverbal Misinterpretation, Stereotype or Preconception, Tendency to Evaluate and High Anxiety or Stress. Hence, this study is significant for people who want to learn about cross-cultural communication as well as those who are in a cross-cultural situation at work or institution because it exposes cross-cultural communication challenges and their effects. MERGERS AND ACQUISITIONS. A CREDIT RISK EVALUATION IN THE GREEK BANKING INDUSTRY SHORT- AND LONG-TERM TIME PERIOD AFTER THE EVENT
Get PDFThe Greek banking system was greatly affected by the financial crisis that began to plague Greece in 2010. Therefore, in order to have competitive Greek banks, a rally of acquisitions and mergers of Greek banks began in 2010 and ended mainly in 2015. So, in essence, the Greek economy was left with only four large Greek systemic banks, which took over the other large and small distressed Greek banks under the specter of bankruptcy. This wave of acquisitions and mergers in the Greek banking system created strength in Greek banks mainly in terms of assets and at the same time protected the interests of Greek depositors. This paper deals with the assessment and calculation of the credit risk that led to the bankruptcy of the four Greek systemically important banks with Z-Score models. These banks are Piraeus Bank, National Bank, Eurobank, and Alpha Bank. The time period for conducting our study is limited from 2015 to 2020. The year 2015 is essentially the last year in which all the important and large mergers and acquisitions of Greek systemic banks that occurred immediately after the onset of the financial crisis in Greece in the year 2010, were completed. The last year of our study is the year 2020 when the pandemic started in Greece. In our paper, extensive reference is made to the credit risk models that we apply in our study, namely the Z-Score, the Z-Score for banks, and the Zeta model. The analysis of our findings is accompanied by tables, diagrams, and comments on them. The final comparative results obtained are forecasts for imminent possible or non-bankruptcy of the Greek systemic banks we examined. JOB SATISFACTION AND JOB PERFORMANCE AMONG ACADEMIC STAFF MEMBERS OF OMAN COLLEGE OF HEALTH SCIENCES: BASIS FOR STRATEGIC PLANNING
Get PDFThis study ventured on discovering the association between job satisfaction and job performance among academic staff members at Oman College of Health Sciences. Respondents were generally satisfied when it comes to the work environment, relation and cooperation, training and development, adequacy of resources, and job security. Respondents were unsure if they were satisfied or dissatisfied with job autonomy, corporate culture and environment, remuneration and reward, and amenities. Respondents demonstrated strong task and contextual performance. Respondents demonstrated a low level of unproductive work behavior. There was no significant difference in work satisfaction among faculty members based on gender, civil status, rank, educational achievement, or length of service. When faculty members were divided into groups based on college branch and country, there was a considerable variation in work satisfaction. There was no statistically significant link between academic staff members' work happiness and job performance. The findings of this study might be used by college officials as a foundation for policy-making and program planning for basic education schools, increasing teachers' work performance and job happiness, as well as administrators' professional progress toward better education. This will serve as the foundation for establishing teacher development programs that will lead to teacher professional growth. It will also aid them in identifying particular demographic traits of instructors that may impact work performance and job satisfaction. Article visualizations
A STUDY ON THE INFLUENCE OF ECO-FRIENDLY FACTORS THAT INSPIRE CONSUMERS' PURCHASING INTENTION IN KLANG VALLEY, MALAYSIA
Get PDFThis study focuses on the influence of eco-friendly factors that impacts consumer purchasing intention in Klang Valley. The population of Klang Valley is 8 million, ranked as the region in the nation with the fastest growth and highest level of development. This area has also had the most severe urbanization and environmental issues. They have been made worse by the enormous impact of unregulated expansion during the last two decades. The factors affecting consumer behaviour involving eco-friendly awareness, distribution, advertising, and packaging were scrutinized. For this study, the residents in the Klang Valley were targeted as the respondents. The convenience sampling method was used to collect the data. Questionnaires were distributed via social media. 432 responses contributed to this study's findings, discussion, and conclusion. This study revealed that eco-friendly awareness, distribution, and packaging significantly influenced the consumer's purchase intention. However, this study disclosed that eco-friendly advertising does not influence consumer purchase intention in Klang Valley, Malaysia. Article visualizations
RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN LEAN ACCOUNTING AND FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE OF COMMERCIAL BANKS IN ELDORET TOWN, KENYA
Get PDFEverybody working seriously to implement Lean Accounting concept in their company eventually bumps up against their accounting systems. It soon becomes clear that traditional accounting systems are actively anti-lean. Lean accounting refers to the concepts designed to better reflect the financial performance of a company that has implemented lean service processes. These may include organizing costs by value stream, changing inventory valuation techniques and modifying financial statements to include nonfinancial information (Alves, Vieira Neto, de Mattos Nascimento, de Andrade, Tortorella, & Garza-Reyes, 2022). The study sought to establish whether Lean Accounting influences the financial performance of Commercial Banks in Kenya. The study was guided by the Lean Philosophy model. The study used a cross-sectional research design and targeted employees working in all t8 commercial banks in Eldoret town, Kenya. A census of the study population was conducted. Questionnaires were used as data collection instruments. The data was analyzed using both inferential (multiple regression and correlation) and descriptive statistics (frequencies, percentages, mean and standard deviation) and was presented by the use of tables and charts. The study findings indicated that the study variables Lean Accounting β = 0.209, p < 0.05 were significant to financial performance. The results showed that Lean Accounting was a positive and significant predictor of financial performance with (t = 3.250; ρ < 0.05). The study recommended that the management of commercial banks in Kenya should strive to maintain the current lean accounting practices and further increase or improve them in order to enhance the banks’ value. They should also train staff on the use of Lean Accounting techniques in order to be able to improve their performance. JEL: G20; G21; M4

The mountainous area of Nghe An is a place with complicated and dangerous terrain and poor infrastructure; the lowest human development index (HDI) in the province; economic situation is extremely difficult, but it is a place with an important strategic position in terms of socio-economic development and protection of national border security. Therefore, building a contingent of ethnic minority cadres has a very important position and role in the development of the mountainous area of Nghe An. However, the work of building a contingent of ethnic minority cadres in mountainous districts of Nghe An currently has many shortcomings and limitations that need to be overcome, and possible solutions are needed so that the construction building a contingent of ethnic minority cadres in mountainous areas to achieve good results in the coming time.
