    Get PDF
The study investigated the impact of corporate governance (CG), investment strategy (IS) and macroeconomic variables on the financial performance of pension schemes in Kenya, thereby addressing the key research question: What is the effect of CG, IS and macroeconomic variables on the financial performance of pension funds in Kenya? Qualitative, quantitative and correlational research designs were used to assess the effect of these factors on the financial performance of pension funds. Quantitative data on the annual return of pension funds and macroeconomic variables from 2012 to 2020, as well as qualitative data on CG indicators and IS, were used in the study. Return on investments proxied pension fund performance. Primary data was collected using survey questionnaires from the pension schemes from both the CG and IS indicators to develop both CG and IS indices. The findings show that CG, as well as IS and macroeconomic variables, impact pension funding differently. The effect of CG indicators on pension performance was positive and significant. The intervening effect of IS on the link between CG and pension performance was significant, while the moderating effect of macroeconomic variables was significant. The individual contribution of both CG indicators and macroeconomic factors on pension performance, nonetheless, varied. The main conclusion of the study is that pension fund financial performance is influenced by CG, IS and macroeconomic factors implying that there is a need to take into account the impact of these factors in the execution of investment plans of pension funds to ensure the generation of adequate funds for retirement benefits. JEL: G23, G32, G34, E44, O55  Article visualizations

Tax revenue has been a great tool of fiscal policy harnessed toward the economic development of a nation. Its different components have collective effects on the economic growth of a nation. This study examined the effects of disaggregated tax revenue on Nigeria's economic growth from 1995 to 2023. The data was sourced from the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Federal Inland Revenue Service databases. This study examined the effects of disaggregated tax revenue on Nigeria's economic growth from 1995 to 2023. The data was sourced from the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Federal Inland Revenue Service databases. Employing multiple regression analysis within an Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model, the study assessed the impact of Value Added Tax (VAT), Companies Income Tax (CIT), Petroleum Profit Tax (PPT) and Personal Income Tax (PIT) on economic growth. The diagnostic tests confirmed the model's validity, with unit root tests showing that all variables, except PIT, achieved stationarity after differencing. The findings revealed that each tax revenue component positively influences economic growth. Based on these results, the study recommends enhancing the legal and regulatory frameworks for businesses, including regular evaluations and updates of tax laws and stronger enforcement mechanisms. It also underscores the need to strengthen anti-corruption efforts, promote property rights, uphold the rule of law, and prioritise good governance to foster public confidence and ensure the effective use of tax revenues for economic development.JEL: C32, H20, H24, H25  Article visualizations

Previous studies revealed that the factors that deal with the cognition of the athletes are the psychological factors, however, most essential psychological factors that lead to performance, and most of the findings are based on the relationship between one or very limited factors that are affecting athlete performance rather than considering a considerable number of psychological factors. Specifically, little attention has been given to the research aspect of sports in China, even though a large number of research are done in Western countries. The current study explores the relationship between emotion, spirituality, self-talk, self-efficacy, goal-orientation, intrinsic motivation, and sport players’ performance. A total of 308 respondents were used for data analysis through SPSS and structural equation modeling which showed that spirituality, goal-orientation, and self-talk positively influence performance and emotion negatively influences performance. Self-efficacy and intrinsic motivation non-significantly influence performance. Lastly, theoretical, and practical implications as well as limitations were discussed accordingly.  Article visualizations

    Get PDF
This study focuses on the impact of risk perception on the intention to invest in Islamic banks' term deposits in Morocco. Using quantitative methodologies, including statistical analysis, Cronbach's reliability tests, and structural equation modelling, the study assesses the influence of various factors, including perceived quality and perceived value, on the intention to invest. Contrary to expectations and the existing literature, the results suggest that risk perception has no statistically significant effect on the intention to invest in these financial products. However, perceived value shows a significant relationship with intention to invest, indicating its crucial role in financial decision-making within this specific context. These results have important implications for Islamic banks, policymakers, and researchers, as they challenge the conventional emphasis on risk perception in the Islamic finance literature. The results suggest that other factors, such as perceived quality and value, may play a more influential role in the intention to invest in Islamic term deposits. JEL: G11, G 21, Z12, D81  Article visualizations

Inheriting the humanistic and revolutionary spirit of the French Enlightenment, especially from Rousseau, in the twentieth century, President Ho Chi Minh, on the foundation of Marxism-Leninism, solved the problem of the liberated nation, human rights, and civil rights with realistic social revolutions, contributing to the common progress of humanity according to the ideals of freedom and equality for all people and peoples. The socialist state of Vietnam, from the first days of its founding, has been a constitutional and legal state in accordance with all principles of a legitimate state. Thanks to its legitimacy, the Vietnamese state had gained the strength and legitimacy needed in the struggle to protect national independence from hostile forces. Facing the requirements of socio-political reality, Vietnam, on the theoretical basis of Ho Chi Minh's thoughts, has made efforts to consolidate and perfect the state to ensure civil and human rights in the country, contributing to promoting peace, cooperation, and progress of the world. Researching a variety of thoughts from Rousseau's views on the legal and constitutional state to Ho Chi Minh's thoughts and drawing out the core values and orientations for building the administrative system in Vietnam today is the purpose of the article.  Article visualizations

IMPACT OF ECONOMIC VARIABLES ON IPOs IN INDIA - AN ANALYTICAL STUDY

    Get PDF
This article aims to examine the hypothesis that local macroeconomic factors affect the volume of initial public offerings (IPOs) in a rising market, India, between 2015 and 2022. Initial public offerings (IPOs) are shown to have a positive correlation with industrial output and a negative correlation with interest rates. Using co-integration and Vector Error Correction models, we find a long-run equilibrium link between interest rates, industrial output, and initial public offerings (IPOs). Using a Markov regime-switching regression model, we also find that the effect of interest rates on IPO numbers is much more significant in the cold IPO regime than in the IPO hot regime. The empirical result seems to detect the IPO market's trend with a fair amount of accuracy. The findings demonstrate that a hot IPO market regime develops when investors start seeing extraordinarily high early returns, and their expectations about the future interest rate indicate the eagerness of entrepreneurs and managers to enter the IPO market. Conversely, a government's pursuit of monetary tightening causes investors to shy away from the IPO markets because they anticipate future profits will fall owing to rising interest rates and the price of shares will be harmed due to reduced dividend yield. JEL: O10, O16  Article visualizations
