    Get PDF
The study sought to establish whether media exposure influences people's cultural attitudes and behavior in Saudi Arabia. Few related studies exist, and this study is set to fill a gap. Media in the context of this study entailed both social media and traditional media. The study employed a quantitative study to analyze data collected using a structured questionnaire. The study used 156 respondents of varying variables in terms of gender, age, and social media usage. Descriptive and inferential statistics were employed to analyze the data. The findings indicate that media exposure does not influence cultural attitudes and behavior. This was different from some of the studies reviewed in this study. The findings suggest that people's personalities and upbringing have more influence on them than what they encounter momentarily in media.   Article visualizations

FUZZY LOGIC-BASED POWER MANAGEMENT IN GRID-CONNECTED SOLAR ENERGY SYSTEMS

    Get PDF
With the ever-increasing application of photovoltaic systems on the power grid, energy flow management and grid stability have become a key factor, especially under varying conditions like variable cloud cover and fluctuating load demands. The paper looks forward to proposing a fuzzy logic approach to the management of energy regarding a solar energy system connected to a grid, aiming at obtaining an optimised power distribution among PV generation, the grid, and battery storage. The proposed system will be driven by five input parameters, PV value, grid availability, load demand, battery state of charge, and tariff rate, to regulate the energy flow activity within different scenarios. The simulation results developed in the MATLAB Simulink environment proved the effectiveness of the applied controller in maintaining energy stability and fulfilling the requirements of a load within seven case studies for a 24-hour duration. The work points out the potential of fuzzy logic, besides reliability, in enhancing the efficiency of various renewable energy systems integrated with conventional energy supply grids.  Article visualizations

BANKRUPTCY RISK AND SHARE PRICES: A CASE STUDY ON ENERGY COMPANIES IN KUWAIT

    Get PDF
This study aims to investigate how investors' perceptions of risk impact the stock prices of energy companies listed on the Kuwait Stock Exchange (KSE) from 2016 to 2023. Investors' belief in the future financial stability of the companies they invest in influences their risk perception. Therefore, if investors hold pessimistic views, they will decrease their investment in these companies, causing share prices to drop, and vice versa. The Zmijewski x-score model is utilized in this study as a measure of risk to assess the financial stability of Kuwaiti energy companies and its impact on their stock prices. The study employs ordinary least square regression (OLS) to analyze the correlation between the x-score and share prices. Results from this research indicated that there was no statistically significant relation between Zmijewski's x-score and stock price and that investors look at other factors when choosing their investments. This is evident because the company with the greatest bankruptcy risk in the following two years also had the second-highest share price. JEL: G1, G4, M21  Article visualizations

    Get PDF
This study investigated the influence of strategic direction on the performance of financial technology (FINTECH) firms in Nairobi City County, Kenya. The research was grounded in strategic leadership theory and employed a predictive research design. The target population consisted of 154 senior and middle-level managers from 22 FINTECH firms, with a sample size of 111 respondents determined using the Taro Yamane formula. Data was collected using structured questionnaires, achieving a response rate of 82.88%. Descriptive statistics revealed that firms excel in adapting strategic direction to changing circumstances (M = 4.80, SD = 0.399) and establishing clear strategic direction (M = 4.43, SD = 0.731), but face challenges in setting clear and measurable goals (M = 1.18, SD = 0.390). In the inferential analysis, multiple linear regression revealed that strategic direction has a statistically significant positive influence on FINTECH firm performance (β = 0.890, t = 11.797, p < .05). The coefficient of determination (R² = 0.685) indicated that 68.5% of the variance in organizational performance could be explained by the strategic factors studied. The study concludes that effective strategic direction is fundamental to FINTECH firm success in Kenya's dynamic financial technology sector, validating the theoretical frameworks that emphasize strategic leadership's role in organizational performance. The research recommends that FINTECH firms implement comprehensive strategic management frameworks that balance structured goal-setting processes with adaptive capabilities, while regulatory bodies develop supportive policies that encourage strategic innovation while maintaining industry stability. This research contributes to both the theoretical understanding of strategic management in the FINTECH sector and provides practical insights for industry leaders navigating complex market conditions.  Article visualizations

    Get PDF
A career that is particularly exposed to stressful situations is firefighting. In 2019, more fire occurrences were reported, according to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP). The objectives of this study are to determine and understand the level of occupational stress among firefighter personnel and how it affects the quality of service of firefighters personnel during the COVID-19 pandemic. The respondents of this study were personnel from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Davao City who had been in service for at least three years. The researcher identifies the personnel of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Davao City as the primary respondents of this study as they can provide authenticity, reliability, and accurate data that could answer the study’s objective. Simple random sampling procedures were employed to choose respondents from each fire station in Davao City. An adapted survey questionnaire was used in the study to gather data. By using descriptive and inferential statistics, the collected data is statistically analysed. Mean was used to determine the level of stress and quality of services of BFP. Pearson r was employed to describe a significant relationship that existed between stress and the quality of services of firefighters. Interpretations would be based on a 0.05 level of significance. Further, the P-value generated from the correlated data was used specifically to determine the level of significance. The result of the study found that there is a significant relationship between occupational stress and the quality of service of BFP during the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, the hypothesis is rejected. The researchers recommend comparing the level of occupational stress before the pandemic and during the pandemic.  Article visualizations
