The rate at which bullying is been perpetrated in schools on a daily basis is alarming and worrisome. It is a big threat that should not be handled with levity. Bullying is not only dangerous to the victims but also to the perpetrators, parents, schools and the society. The consequences could have a life-long effect on the individual that is bullied. In view of this, this study, therefore, examined the school climate, peer influence, social competence and family cohesion as facilitators of bullying among public secondary school students in Mushin, Lagos State. Two hundred and two (202) public secondary school students from 6 (six) public schools in Mushin, Lagos State were randomly selected for the study. Standardized instruments were used to measure the variables. Three research questions were raised and answered. Data collected were analyzed using the Multiple Regression Analysis and Pearson Product Moment Correlation at 0.05 level of significance. Findings of the study showed that bulling among the participants correlated positively with the four predicting variables and a coefficient of multiple correlations (R) of 0.812 and adjusted R square of 0.646 was noted. Family cohesion is the most potent contributor to the prediction (β = 0.308, t = 6.938, p < 0.05) followed by peer influence (β = 0.292, t = 6.017, p < 0.05), school climate (β = 0.126, t = 2.466, p < 0.05) and finally, social competence (β = 0.015, t = 0.343, p < 0.05). Based on the findings, it was recommended that counselling psychologists and allied professionals should endeavour to sensitize the government, school owners and public on the benefits of positive school climate and family cohesion in reducing bullying in the school system. Also, bullying may be reduced through anti-bullying programs in schools that serve to raise awareness of the problem. Lastly, cordial relationship should be established at homes among the siblings and between the parents and their children as this will go a long way in raising children with high social competence skills as well as promoting healthy relationship that fosters friendliness in school setting rather than bullying among the students.  Article visualizations

MURDER INVESTIGATION IN NIGERIA: IMPLICATION FOR FORENSIC SCIENCE APPLICATION

    Get PDF
This study presents a systematic review of studies related to murder and criminal investigation, policing, and implications for forensic science application in Nigeria. A literature search was done in the English language, using primary and secondary keywords; such as murder investigation, forensic science, policing, criminal investigation, standard operating procedures guiding murder investigation, and application of forensic science in Nigeria. Four academic databases selected for the study were: SAGE Online, Wiley Online Library, Science Direct, and Google Scholar. Following the inclusion and exclusion criteria earmarked for the study, 16 selected online published materials published between 2012 and 2022 met the predetermined criteria. These articles are either surveys, reviews, case studies, expert opinion materials, or theoretical articles. Central to the findings of these articles is that the application of forensic science in murder investigations in Nigeria is still suboptimal, accounting for lots of cold and unresolved murder cases across the country. In addition, there are other issues such as inadequate legislation governing forensic science application in Nigeria, lack of forensic skills and poor capacity development of Nigerian police, and non-adherence to forensic validated procedures during murder investigations. Gaps identified from these studies suggest a need for research focusing on the importance of suspect forensic profiling, a criminal investigative tool that can aid in narrowing down the suspect pool which has become a perennial problem in Nigeria's justice system as evidenced by the rising number of murder suspects across the country’s penitentiaries. This would make murder investigation more effective and efficient for criminal justice experts.  Article visualizations

    Get PDF
This study investigates the diverse livelihood options and adaptive strategies in response to disasters in the Satkhira, Naogaon, and Kurigram districts. The research identifies distinctive livelihoods in Satkhira, such as crab collection and shrimp culture, and in Naogaon, mango-related businesses. Disasters significantly impact income and livelihood opportunities, with Satkhira and Kurigram experiencing more severe disruptions than Naogaon. Adaptation strategies vary by district: in Satkhira, loan-taking, savings use, and diversification of income sources are predominant, whereas, in Naogaon and Kurigram, multiple earning sources and alternative livelihoods are prioritised. The study reveals low overall livelihood support, with Kurigram receiving the most effective and sustainable aid. Knowledge and demand for climate-resilient livelihoods remain low across all districts, underscoring the need for financial, technical, and training support to enhance resilience. The research highlights the critical necessity for targeted interventions to bolster livelihood resilience in these vulnerable regions.  Article visualizations

    Get PDF
The study delves into the nuanced experiences of children in conflict zones, using a qualitative phenomenological research design. Ten children are interviewed, strictly adhering to ethical standards. Thematic analysis is employed to explore the depths of the children's experiences, their conceptualization of peace, and their aspirations. Key themes emerge around fear, vigilance, and the quest for protection. In the war-torn landscapes they inhabit, children describe peace as not just the absence of conflict but also the absence of fear, paired with a yearning for unity. Their hopes and dreams are filled with ambition and optimism, reflecting their resilience in the face of adversity. The findings highlight an urgent need for psychological interventions tailored to address trauma and build resilience in children affected by conflict. Recommendations emphasize the importance of involving both children and their family in structured activities that promote recovery and well-being, offering a pathway to healing and restoration.  Article visualizations

This study investigates the impact of pastors' family well-being on pastoral ministry within the ADEPR Nyamasheke Local Church. Recognizing the integral role pastors play in the spiritual guidance and growth of congregations, the research explores the reciprocal relationship between pastors' family well-being and the effectiveness of pastoral ministry. Employing a mixed-methods research design, the study involves surveys, interviews, and focus group discussions with pastors, their families, and congregants. The research aims to quantify and qualitatively assess various dimensions of pastors' family well-being, including economic stability, emotional health, and familial relationships. Additionally, the study examines the perceived impact of pastors' family well-being on key indicators of pastoral ministry effectiveness, such as congregational growth, community impact, and pastoral satisfaction. The findings of this research chart provide a comprehensive analysis of the Church's leadership effectiveness, revealing strengths and weaknesses through expressed percentages. While an overall frequency suggests a perception of weak leadership, a minority of respondents express satisfaction in certain areas. Pastors, Mothers' Union members, and choir group leaders particularly commend aspects like the leadership system, individuals with gifts, and effective management. However, the item indicating 18.48% reveals a shortage of qualified staff, a concern elaborated in a previous table. Additionally, the 21.12% representing management underscores perceived challenges in organizational effectiveness. This nuanced examination unveils a complex narrative, portraying both positive and concerning aspects of leadership within the Church. Contribute valuable insights to the understanding of the interconnected dynamics between pastors' family well-being and the overall success of pastoral ministry within the unique context of the ADEPR Nyamasheke Local Church. The implications of the study may inform pastoral training programs, church policies, and community engagement strategies to enhance the holistic well-being of pastors and, consequently, the vibrancy of pastoral ministry.  Article visualizations

    Get PDF
This study aimed to investigate the likelihood of cheating in a romantic relationship using predictive modeling techniques. The researchers collected data from 500 respondents who completed the Hendrick and Hendrick's Theory of Love survey questionnaire. The results indicated that friendship love received the highest mean score, while possessive love received the lowest. Sex, religion, and education are significantly associated with cheating. The researchers utilized the age and types of love as predictors in an empirical analysis of cheating in a romantic relationship. The model demonstrated a good fit and accurately represented the data. Age and altruistic love were significant predictors of cheating, while passionate and friendship love reduced the likelihood of cheating. Altruistic love contributed the most to cheating among the types of love. The findings suggest that individuals who are older and have a stronger inclination towards altruistic love are more likely to cheat in a romantic relationship. Conversely, those with a greater degree of friendship and passionate love are less likely to engage in cheating. These results underscore the importance of understanding the different types of love in predicting infidelity in a romantic relationship.  Article visualizations
