    Get PDF
Online shopping is a widely acknowledged phenomenon in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), with platforms like Noon and Amazon.sa serving as prominent destinations for millions of users. Driven by both utilitarian and hedonic motives, users in KSA actively engage in online shopping activities. While existing literature highlights the significance of self-escapism as a fundamental hedonic motivation, users' attitude towards online buying and purchasing behavior remain understudied. This study explores dimensions of users' self-escapism which includes self-suppression and self-expansion motivation in the context of online shopping in KSA and its direct and mediated effects on their attitude and buying behavior. The research is based on the collection of data from 219 users of noon.com and amazon.sa in KSA through an online survey. The findings of this study reveal that users' self-escapism motivation in online shopping engagement is a two-dimensional construct, encompassing self-suppression and self-expansion factors. This motivation directly influences customers' engagement with online shopping. The study identifies mediating roles of attitude toward online shopping intention during users' online buying experiences. This research provides valuable insights into the motivations of users who turn to online shopping as a means of self-regulation in the KSA context. Sellers can leverage these perceptions to create online shopping environments that cater to the self-escapism needs of users, thereby influencing and encouraging them to make online purchases.  Article visualizations

    Get PDF
In law enforcement and correctional agencies, sexual orientation and gender identity-based harassment and employment discrimination remained persistent until today. Moreover, there is stereotyping involved in the issue of being closeted in the law enforcement agency. This study aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the experiences, challenges, and struggles faced by closeted officers in law enforcement organizations. The study’s participants are closeted police officers, who were chosen through snowball sampling, while data were collected via interview guide questionnaires. The study employs a qualitative phenomenological research approach, focusing on what people experience concerning certain significant life events and how they perceive those occurring. Thematic analysis was employed as the chosen qualitative data analysis approach. The study revealed that closeted gay police officers needed to adjust and adapt themselves to the workplace dynamics to fit in while balancing their values to stay true to themselves. The participants also experienced discrimination, stereotypes, and bullying. The significance of this study is to understand better the experiences, challenges, and struggles of closeted police officers; specifically, to explore their lived experiences in law enforcement organizations, document the difficulties the respondents have faced and the coping techniques they used to overcome the significant challenges in their professions and document how the closeted police officers project themselves during police operations. JEL: J15, J71, J78, Z13  Article visualizations

ASSESSING THE IMPACT OF COVID 19 ON THE PERFORMANCE OF RURAL BANKS WITHIN THE GREATER KUMASI AND ACCRA REGIONS / ÉVALUATION DE L'IMPACT DU COVID 19 SUR LA PERFORMANCE DES BANQUES RURALES DANS LES RÉGIONS DU GRAND KUMASI ET ACCRA

The COVID-19 pandemic had a devastating impact on the economy of Ghana, as restrictive measures imposed by the Ghanaian government to stem the spread of the virus disrupted economic activities. The research, therefore, aimed at investigating the impact the pandemic had on the performance of rural banks, using Return on Assets (ROA), Return on Equity (ROE), and Net Interest Margin (NIM) as performance indicators. The study specifically had the objective of assessing the impact of the pandemic on rural banks located in areas which faced the three-week lockdown imposed by the government. Hence, three rural banks from Accra and Greater Kumasi areas: La Community Rural Bank, Atwima Mponua Rural Bank, and Okomfo Anokye Rural Bank, were selected through convenience sampling. The study aimed to determine the impact of the pandemic by comparing the pre-pandemic performance of the rural banks, which was represented by their 2018 and 2019 performances, and their during-pandemic performance, which was represented by their 2020 performance since the pandemic hit the country in the year 2020. The financial statements of the rural banks were analysed using the t-test. Findings demonstrated that there was no significant difference in the ROA, ROE, and NIM of rural banks between the pre-pandemic and post-pandemic periods, indicating that their performance was not adversely impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. This was interpreted to mean that rural banks in the country were resilient, as they bounced from their initial poor performance earlier on in the year 2020 as the majority of the restrictions were lifted.JEL: G21; E44; I18; O55; G01La pandémie de Covid-19 a eu un impact dévastateur sur l’économie du Ghana, car les mesures restrictives imposées par le gouvernement ghanéen pour endiguer la propagation du virus ont perturbé les activités économiques. Article visualizations

MIXING BRANDS AND BEHAVIOUR: UNVEILING THE POWER OF MARKETING MIX AND BRAND AFFINITY IN MOBILE PHONE CHOICES IN KLANG VALLEY, MALAYSIA

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study is to examine the influence of the marketing mix (product, price, place, and promotion) on consumer behaviour, particularly the importance of the moderating effect of brand affinity in the mobile phone market in Klang Valley, Malaysia. The consumer landscape is changing within the context of technological development and the COVID-19 pandemic, and, for this reason, understanding the peculiarities of consumer preference and purchasing patterns is critical. The elements of the marketing mix can have a significant effect on consumer decisions, including the product value and quality, the brand image, and such environmental concerns as the product and place of purchase. In these circumstances, the current study examines the relationship of the marketed product features, price elements and strategies, distribution channels, and promotional activities, with brand affinity as a moderating variable. It is demonstrated that all of the effects are related to consumer behaviour in a manner different from the major moderating variable. It contributes to the implementation of strategic marketing and suggests that the marketing mix needs to be harmonized with brand affinity to help consumers improve their engagement in the online environment and increase their loyalty and choices in the conditions of the current digital economy situation.   Article visualizations

Some studies have shown that incidental cues, present in the immediate environment of an individual, affect an individual's behaviour and judgment. However, the effect of such incidental cues on food judgment has never been examined. In this study, participants were asked to taste a clementine juice contained in a bottle and to rate it on several factors (good taste, organic, quality, natural, and fresh). A dozen clementines were displayed on a table either with their leaves or without. Results showed that the fruit-juice was perceived more positively when clementines with their leaves were displayed on the table. The importance of natural cues associated with fruits in order to increase their interest in individuals was discussed.  Article visualizations

STRATEGIC MARKETING ORIENTATIONS FOR SOCIAL VALUE GENERATION: SYSTEMATIC LITERATURE REVIEW AND RESEARCH AGENDA

    Get PDF
This study aimed to identify research that addresses strategic marketing orientations from a social perspective and to discuss how studies in this area have been related over time. From the Web of Science database, we analyzed 104 studies and conducted a systematic literature review followed by bibliometric analysis. The bibliometric analysis showed the main focus of studies on strategic marketing orientation aimed at generating social value: service-dominant logic (SD-Logic), social entrepreneurship, customer participation in innovation, innovation capabilities, product development, and social marketing. The analysis and reading of the selected articles allowed us to conclude that investigations into strategic marketing orientations with a social bias are scarcely present in the literature, highlighting the need for further studies to develop knowledge on the subject.  Article visualizations

THE LEVEL OF STUDIES AND LIFELONG LEARNING AS FACTORS SHAPING KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ATTITUDES OF THE HUMAN RESOURCES OF SOCIAL SERVICES REGARDING ISSUES OF HUMAN RIGHTS

    Get PDF
This paper presents part of the results of a study conducted in the context of PhD studies of the first of the authors in order to assess a) the level of knowledge, perceptions, skills, attitudes and mobilization of human resources of social services on issues of protection of Human Rights (HR) of vulnerable social groups (VSG), and b) the impact on this level of both Lifelong Learning (LL) of human resources in the field of Human Rights and their level of studies. For data to be collected, a closed-ended electronic questionnaire was created and completed by four hundred and fifty-three active employees in social services operating in the three Regional Units of Western Greece. The most important results of the survey showed that the knowledge of human resources in the field of Human Rights was moderate. Moreover, it is concluded that the perceptions of human resources regarding the equality which VSG should enjoy in exercising their rights and receiving social benefits from the state range from very high to extremely high levels, respectively. At the same time, the emergence rate of socio-emotional skills during human resources contact with VSG appears to be adequate. On the contrary, the research data showed little mobilization of human resources to defend the rights of VSG within and outside the work environment. In addition, after correlating the categories of LL with the variables under study, the main results showed that the higher the levels of Formal Human Resource Education in the field of Human Rights, the less the various characteristics of VSG (gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, mental-physical disability, age, racial-ethnic origin, religion, socioeconomic status, language, skin color) constitute a barrier of discrimination during their contact with them, the more their socio-emotional skills emerge and their degree of mobilization increases. Finally, as the levels of studies increase, the higher the level of knowledge developed in the field of Human Rights by the participants in the research and the less the various characteristics of VSG affect the provision of quality services to them. On the contrary, the lower the educational level of human resources, the greater their mobilization within and outside the work environment.  Article visualizations
