The vanished land of childhood Autobiographical narration in Astrid Lindgren’s work
No full textIn her essays and speeches Astrid Lindgren stressed over and over again her special relationship to her own childhood. However, what constitutes this relationship and how it influenced Lindgren’s literary development and her self-image as an author has not been adequately investigated. Based on the recently developed concept of cultural memory as a new paradigm in the cultural and literary sciences and on recent cognitive studies in memory research, I would like to demonstrate that there exists an important connection between literature and memory in Lindgren’s literary work

No full textTill det här numret av Barnboken – tidskrift för barnlitteraturforskning efterlystes artiklar på temat ”From mission:society to mission:ego”, ett tema som visade sig vara närmast mission impossible. Underrubriken löd: ”1960- och 70-talens barn- och ungdomsböcker uppfordrade läsarna till samhällsmedvetenhet och kollektiva uttryck. Idag är det snarare individen (”alla dessa jag”) som står i centrum. Barnboken vill stimulera till analyser av perspektivförskjutningen och den betydelse allmänlitterär och social förändring kan ha haft för det nya berättandet och för framställningen av de unga huvudpersonerna.” Två av de fem publicerade artiklarna är skrivna utifrån det tänkta temat. Helena Magnusson undersöker i ”Jag du vi hej mamma pappa: en läsebok i förändring” hur den svenska läsebokens ändrade karaktär hänger ihop med en förändring i skildringen av sociala relationer. 1970-talets läsebok avpersonifierar genom sitt kollektiva, decentraliserade fokus medan läseboken från 1989 istället handlar om riktad, känslomässig identifikation med en utvald huvudperson. George Papantonakis, Grekland, gör i sin artikel ”The individual’s mission overrides society’s mission: responses and dilemmas in contemporary Greek young adults’ science fiction” intressanta iakttagelser om hur den våldsamma grekiska nutidshistorien skildras i en science fictionmiljö där unga strävar efter individuell frihet bort från ett kollektivt förtryck. I ett brev till mig strax före tryckning skriver också Papantonakis ”But what a coincidence! Irony of fate! In one of the fiction I am referring to, is included the nest event: Police murders a student, because police considers the student as a terrorist! Now, unfortunately, we live, in Athens, such a situation!” Han refererar till oroligheterna i Grekland i december 2008. Verkligheten överträffar fiktionen
The Bullerby books and tradition
No full textThe Bullerby series (1947, 1949, 1952) is as a whole one of Lindgren’s most autobiographical narratives, and, among Swedes, one of the best loved. But the attitude towards “Bullerby” has undergone interesting permutations over time. Today, “Bullerby” is frequently seen as a regressive wish-fulfilment fantasy. But this was not how the books were regarded when they were first published
