Electric Elegance: Enhancing Cotton Fabric with Conducting Polypyrrole for Gas Sensing Applications
Get PDF This work is carried out to study the indigenously developed conducting polymer-based gas sensor for NO2 detection. The gas sensor is fabricated using conducting polymer such as Polypyrrole (PPy) as the active layer on the cotton fabric surface. The effects of washing on the composition and structure of samples were investigated through the application of XRD and FTIR spectroscopy. XRD analysis revealed notable changes in crystal structure. FTIR analysis provided insights into the molecular bonds present, highlighting variations in the functional groups before and after washing. We evaluated the electrical conductivities of samples before and after washing. The key findings shed light on the effects of washing on the chemical structure of gas-sensing materials, which is critical for maintaining sensor performance. This paper discusses the gas sensing mechanism and configuration of the sensor with a threshold limit value (TLV) of 25 ppm, enabling detection at low ppm concentrations
A Study on Land Use Change and Water Quality in the Wetland of Kuttanad Region, Southern India
Get PDFLand use changes in urbanization, industrialization, and agricultural processes will continue to have negative impacts on water quality at all scales. The impact of land use change on water quality is generally studied by analysing the relationship between land use and water quality indicators. Water samples were collected from the surface of Pampa River basin, and analysed for physical, chemical and microbiological parameters. Water quality parameters such as electrical conductivity, Total dissolved solids, Biochemical oxygen demand, Total Coliform, and Fecal Coliform, were found to be high in the urban environment. On the other hand, water pH and ‘DO’ were high in forest area, and nitrate values and E.Coli were maximum in SMT land use. The water pollution index (WPI) showed that the river water was very pure in the forest area, moderately polluted in the paddy fields, polluted in the urban environment and heavily polluted in the SMT land use

Self-supervised contrastive learning is vital for medical image analysis, inspired by human categorization learning. This technique classifies unlabeled data to generate reports, aiding doctors in making better diagnoses and treatment plans. By predicting and grouping image components, medical report formation ensures accurate and consistent record-keeping. Contrastive learning enables models to learn from unlabeled data by identifying similarities and differences. These advancements have become crucial in machine learning, enhancing medical imaging and opening doors for further improvements and research
Assessing the Relationship between Councilors, Traditional Leaders and Society in Local Governance in Ubuhlebezwe Local Municipality
Get PDFSouth Africa, with its heterogeneous population, aims to promote the engagement of all citizens in governance. Section 81 of the Local Government: Municipal Structures Act (Act No. 117 of 1998) enables traditional leaders to participate in municipal councils. There has been insufficient research and established models of best practices for implementing Section 81 since the national Act was passed. Sections 152(b) and 153(a) of the 1996 Constitution outline the authorised powers of local government. These sections state that one of the objectives of local government, under council members' leadership, is to ensure sustainable services to the public. Additionally, local government is responsible for organising and overseeing the municipality's budgetary, planning, and administrative processes, particularly prioritising the needs of vulnerable citizens. Consequently, ward council members were elected in the rural districts under the jurisdiction of traditional authorities. The rights and responsibilities of elected council members are specified in Section 156 of the Constitution. The Constitution does not provide a clear definition for the role of traditional leaders, who are responsible for managing extensive areas of land and receiving compensation from the government for their role in preserving culture and customs. Hence, this research analyses the correlation between council members, traditional leaders, and society in governance to ascertain compliance with section 152 (1) of the Constitution, 1996. Additionally, it explores the possibility of formulating a constitution and a code of conduct for traditional chiefs and council members, enabling citizens to lodge complaints against the activities of these two officials if required

The nature of creativity and human-AI collaboration is complex and a multifaceted area of exploration. While culture influences the evolution of AI, AI likewise impacts culture in various ways. Generative AI in the recent years have seen remarkable growth. With its application in the creative field there are debates and repudiation over the creative works by AI. Consequently, there is a need for redefining creativity in the era of AI especially with the emergence of promptology, synthography etc., Derrida’s différance highlights the instability of meaning. And Artificial Intelligence through algorithms interpret and generate text and images, this shows that the digital content is never fixed, and it is continually deferred and evolving. This also leads to the discussion on authenticity. Thus, this paper aims to critically examine the boundaries, authenticity and power dynamics in digital identities in the AI driven era.

Effectiveness of Machine Learning Models and Performance Enhancement with Threshold Tuning Method Adopted in Diabetes Prediction
No full textUsing machine learning algorithms to predict diabetes has been the focus of extensive research by a few researchers. The objective of this paper is to provide PWDs, clinicians, family members, and carers with a better understanding of the possible uses of current AI advancements in the treatment of PWDs. Millions of PWD could benefit from the enhanced blood glucose management, lower frequency of hypoglycemic episodes, and decreased risk of diabetes-related comorbidities that could be facilitated by AI applications. AI applications enhance the lives of people with disabilities (PWDs), by enhancing accuracy, efficiency, usability, and satisfaction. In this study, the performance metrics of the top three machine learning models currently available are compared. Four out of the five parameters analyzed, the KNN model fared the best. KNN is superior in terms of accuracy, area under the curve (AUC), precision, and f1 score. Logistic Regression achieves the optimal Recall/Sensitivity of 93%
