機械翻訳の時代に小学校英語は必要か
English has become a subject at elementary school since the 2020 school year. However, is English education really necessary at elementary school? This paper first overviews the causes of and measures to the shortage of elementary school teachers, and then introduces previous studies on the
process and results of English education at elementary school and its problems. Thirdly, it is
revealed that so-called “practical English” can be handled by machine translation. Finally, the
current decline in the academic ability of university students is discussed. From these four
perspectives, I propose that English education at elementary school should be abolished
