Delivery and staffing challenges in supporting the careers of international students
E(その他)We are currently implementing various measures to ensure that international students can find employment in Japan. However, it remains difficult to improve the employment rate. One factor that hinders such improvement is organizing past research from the perspective of university support. International students face three obstacles. First, there is a delay in starting work because of the lack of understanding of the job hunting system in Japan. Second, choosing what to focus on while thinking about career plans, including the importance of working in Japan rather than making immediate decisions around job hunting, remains a challenge. Third, the issue of support for graduate students who have major time constraints needs attention. A survey indicates that there are very few specialized efforts toward providing career support for international students at the university level. The need to provide these students appropriate support has not been recognized, and thus the construction of a support system for them remains an issue. The second objective of this study is to address issues in terms of OECD career guidance and to identify the staff that will support particular areas and how such guidance can be delivered so that it reaches those in need. To understanding the current state of staffing toward providing career support at universities, it is important to consider all necessary factors, to acknowledge all insufficiencies and to identify ways by which support can be made accessible to international students who need it.departmental bulletin pape
Necessity of Standardizing the Research Method for Beginners : Considering Expansion of Research Opportunities at Secondary Education Level
P(論文)Learning science through inquiry has been regarded as the heart of science education, and it is considered that active processes in research activity containing inquiry-based activity (hereinafter collectively called "research activity") improve scientific judging skills required in the real world. Based on this recognition, the introduction of the research activity is proceeding more and more in the field of science education in Japan. However, the way of instructing a student how to perform research activity depends exclusively on teachers’ individual research-skills, and the research method is usually not standardized across teachers in a single school, not to mention across schools. In this study, referring to one case at a typical public upper secondary school in Nara, the reality of the introduction of the research activity was reviewed. As a result, the necessity of standardizing the research method was suggested.departmental bulletin pape
Study on Structural Optimization for a Partial Structure with Coupling Loss Factor as an Objective Function
P(論文)A structural optimization method of subsystems to realize desired SEA parameters was proposed by the authors in the past studies. This method is based on a combination of SEA and FEM calculation, calculating repeatedly until satisfying the value of objective functions under arbitrary constraints. As a result of applying the proposed method to a simple structure consisting of two flat plates connected in an L shaped configuration, the design variable is taken as the thickness of the FEM element, a subsystem structure with the desired value of the CLF or power flow between subsystems for the one frequency band or multi frequency bands were constructed. However, it is difficult to apply the optimal results to real machine structure because of setting the thickness of the FEM element as the design variable. In this paper, the method is also validated through numerical analyses, using a finite element method, of a multiple plates partially composed of L shaped, after the sensitivity analysis for the sound energy of the evaluation point due to the fluctuation of loss factors, the subsystem is grouped into a plural elements for the extracted L shaped part, and the each grouped element is set as a design variable, which should take a discrete value, the total mass is taken as a constraint function in order to maximize CLF32 at one frequency band. As a result of optimization, the sound pressure level was reduced by maximizing the value of CLF32 in the target frequency band.departmental bulletin pape
Development of a Web Site to Support Subsidy Application
P(論文)The Nagasaki-shi hokubu Society of Commerce and Industry(NSCI) supports the small and medium enterprises in the north area in Nagasaki City, which apply for the public subsidy. The support service is complex and also burdens heavily. So, NSCI found the web site to support subsidy application to be necessary. In this report, the development of such web site system is discussed. Because the system developed here does not require the special technologies and paid software, it is easy for porting to other webserver.departmental bulletin pape
Company Attitudes toward Employment of Foreign Students : A Survey in Nagasaki Prefecture
P(論文)We conducted a questionnaire survey on foreign student employment in Nagasaki Prefecture. Our findings are as follows: (1) companies are generally willing to employ foreign students, (2) the job types requiring high language skills are ranked among the top, (3) more emphasis is placed on Japanese language proficiency than on English. However, the Japanese proficiency level required in Nagasaki is lower than the result of DISCO’s survey (2018a). The results of the survey using Liu and Sugihara’s questionnaire (2016) show that (1) “the fundamental competencies for working persons” resulted in high scores, especially the ability to function in a team was very high, (2) “the bachelor's degree-level academic ability” scored lower than “the fundamental competencies for working persons” and (3) applicants’ “attitudes, directionality and teamwork” aspects are more highly evaluated than their “knowledge, comprehension and multipurpose skills” when companies in Nagasaki Prefecture employ foreign students. We also compared our results with that of Liu and Sugihara (2016) and found similarities and differences.departmental bulletin pape

Acceleration of Oscillational Iterative Process to Solve the Riccati Equation
P(論文)Several methods to solve the Riccati equation are proposed for the optimal regulator problem in modern control theory. In some cases, a solution of the Riccati equation is reached through iterative calculation. But many steps of iteration are sometimes required because of oscillation of iterative process.
In this paper, numerical error between left and right sides of matrix-type Riccati equation is treated as a criterion of convergence, and a filtering technique is presented to reduce the number of iterations. Furthermore, the appropriate value of filtering parameter is decided analytically on the basis of the way to get a solution through Lyapunov equation derived from Riccati equation.
Finally, the effectiveness of the results of this study is confirmed as well as improvement of efficiency of iterative process by parametric studies of numerical simulation.departmental bulletin pape
