Problems in Coastal Areas
Get PDFThis paper deals with the physical problems in coastal areas. The main problems are 1) the bottom friction factors for wind waves and swells off five Japanese coasts and for tidal waves in one Japanese strait, 2) the water particle velocity, the pressure fluctuation and the suspended sediment concentration measured in the surf zone, 3) the behavior of suspended matter in the gravity wave field under the assumption that the mixture of suspended matter and fluid behaves like a sort of fluid with density varying linearly with suspended matter concentration, 4) the tidal current and the exchange of sea water in Matsuyama Port, Japan, 5) groundwater pollution caused by both seawater intrusion into confined and phreatic coastal aquifers and fertilizer dissolution into phreatic insular aquifers, and 6) two models to simulate freshwater lenses in coral atolls.departmental bulletin pape
