Study on three-dimensional design method for steam turbine cascade

    Get PDF
Recently, the fully three-dimensional design method is applied to the blades of almost all stages in the steam turbine. However, the detailed mechanism of three dimensional effects on the flow within a turbine cascade have not been completely clarified in spite of many studies over a long period of time. Therefore, the turbine designer has to pay careful attention to the blade stacking using the blade leaning technology. In order to improve the fully three-dimensional design method, the authors have reviewed the complicated flow pattern within a bowed blade in detail through the cascade testing and CFD, and have proposed a new idea to improve the conventional bowed blade. In conclusion, the reason for the increase in profile loss at mid span and decrease in secondary loss near the endwall of conventional bowed blade was explained, and the effect of the throat expansion at mid span as a new technology for reducing the losses in the bowed blade were verified by experiment.departmental bulletin pape

    Get PDF
In April 2007,the Nagasaki Institute of Applied Science (NiAS) established the "Medical Electronics Course" for the education of medical engineers in the Electric-Electronic Engineering Department,Faculty of engineering. The “Medical Electronics Course" started smoothly and has now finished the second year. This paper presents an outline of the Medical Electronics Course and introduces the results of the activities of the course during its second year.departmental bulletin pape

Improvement of steam temperature control in supercritical once thru boilers

    Get PDF
New steam temperature control logic for supercritical once thru boilers was developed from the view point of simplicity similar to that of the conventional sub-critical drum type boilers. Water wall outlet steam temperature can be controlled more easily due to larger specific heat capacity of steam than super heater outlet steam temperature. By dividing temperature control into two parts, one at water wall outlet by fuel flow and the other at SH(super heater) outlet by SH spray flow, boiler steam temperature control was much improved. Temperature control index originally defined here would be an barometer for feasibility of temperature control.departmental bulletin pape

Results of mock-up test of "steam reformer in HTTR hydrogen production system" and its evaluation

    Get PDF
The Japan Atomic Energy Agency started the construction of High Temperature Engineering Test Reactor (HTTR) in the Oarai Laboratory in 1991. HTTR attained reactor-outlet temperature of 950℃ in April 2004 and is now continuing various tests concerning the nuclear reactor and intermediate heat exchanger (IHX). The agency plans to connect this HTTR and hydrogen production system with the steamreforming method in future. The mock-up test facility of steam reforming with single reaction tube of 1/30 scale model in capacity was constructed as a separate facility from HTTR. Various tests were performed from 2002 to 2004. This facility produces about 120N㎥/h hydrogen in steam reformer using helium gas heated by a 423 kW electric heater. In this mock-up steam reformer, many measuring instruments were set to monitor the temperatures, pressures and flow rates, and the characteristics of heat transfer and steam reforming were recognized. This paper describes the heat transfer and hydrogen production test results and their evaluation. In particular, structural survey, heat transfer characteristics, strength design and performance estimation for the steam reformer are desctibed.departmental bulletin pape

Experimental study on tensile strength of repair part for CFRP structural component of airplane

    Get PDF
Tensile tests were carried out using specimen similar to repair part of the CFRP structural component of airplane. The specimen were made by two different methods, that is, one is "autoclave repair specimen" performed by exclusive equipment of the airplane body maker, and the other is "heat blanket repair specimen" by manual labor at operation spot. In addition, "autoclave repair specimen" with impact damage was also tested. As a result, the influences of repair method and impact damage on tensile strength of scarf repair part were clarified.departmental bulletin pape
