The Research Institute for Nature and Forest (INBO): Evolution towards an Open Science Institute
71 slides.-- Presentation delivered within the "National session (I)"The presentation describes the route to implement Open Science followed by the Flemish Research Institute for Nature and Forest (Instituut voor Natuur- en Bosonderzoek, INBO) in the period 2009-2023. INBO is is the independent research institute of the Flemish government that underpins and evaluates biodiversity policy and management by means of applied scientific research, data and knowledge sharing. With the overarching goal to become an Open Science Institute, this 15-year work has involved the adoption of policies and actions in the areas of Open Access, Research Data Management, Open Methods, open source research software, open peer-review and open education. The way the institutional Pure-based CRIS at INBO is used to pursue open science-related objectives is described
Combining Data Lake and Data Wrangling for Ensuring Data Quality in CRIS
Extended abstract presented at the CRIS2022 conference in Dubrovnik.-- Event programme available at https://cris2022.srce.hr/#section-program24 slides.-- Presentation delivered within the session "Research information management and ethical issues"Today, researchers should be able to integrate ever-increasing amounts of data into their institutional database, such as Current Research Information Systems (CRIS), regardless of the source, format or size of research information. An effective mechanism should then be employed to ensure faster value creation from data of these organizations, respecting this increasing variety of data, i.e. heterogeneous data. The processing of electronic data plays a central role in modern society. Data in general is an elementary component of operational processes in companies and scientific organizations. They also form the basis for decisions. Poor quality research information may have a negative effect on results and decisions. The quality of research information or trustworthy and reliability of data are crucial. This includes the topic of data lake and data wrangling
Towards the Refactored CERIF Model
Extended abstract presented at the CRIS2022 conference in Dubrovnik.-- Event programme available at https://cris2022.srce.hr/#section-program42 slides.-- Presentation delivered within session "CERIF developments"The paper informs on the ongoing activity at euroCRIS to refactor the CERIF model. The features of the present model are briefly explained together with the shortcomings that motivate the refactoring effort. We state the goals and the ways to achieve these: the new modelling approach for CERIF, introducing a modular structure and improving documentation
Chances and challenges of creating a research information platform for the Berlin University Alliance
Extended abstract presented at the CRIS2022 conference in Dubrovnik.-- Event programme available at https://cris2022.srce.hr/#section-program17 slides.-- Presentation delivered within the session "The evolving CRIS landscape"This paper describes some of the challenges we face while developing a research information platform for the Berlin University Alliance (BUA). Since its founding in 2018, the BUA has put its focus on promoting the networking of researchers and their research activities and connecting many research groups within the clusters of excellence as well as beyond. The platform aims at presenting structured, transparent, categorized, and linked information about researchers and their research activities to improve the discoverability of expertise, connect researchers to their work across disciplines and boundaries, and facilitate new research collaborations. The platform is established using the open-source, web-based VIVO software, which uses semantic web techniques to connect research outputs, organizations, people, things, and research activities
Developing a national science & technology funding registry in Portugal
Extended abstract presented at the CRIS2022 conference in Dubrovnik.-- Event programme available at https://cris2022.srce.hr/#section-program41 slides.-- Presentation delivered within the session "Discussing PID infrastructure"Funding information is one of the pillars of the research information ecosystem. Despite this, it is still very challenging to associate scientific outputs to all the entities that financially support a project and all the stakeholders involved. To tackle this, PTCRIS – a national integrated research information management ecosystem - developed a new infrastructure to support the management of attributed funding to the scientific triad in the Portuguese scientific ecosystem: organizations, people and projects. The SciPROJ database is the new national database that aggregates funding records (national and international) that support science and technology activities carried out in Portugal
Research Information Infrastructure in Ukraine: first steps towards building a national CRIS
Poster presented at the CRIS2022 conference in Dubrovnik.-- Event programme available at https://cris2022.srce.hr/#section-program18 slides.-- Presentation delivered within the poster session on May 13thUkraine is home to 619 higher education institutions (including 281 universities) and National Academy of Science which is an umbrella organization that consists of 160 research institutions. In sum, nearly 1000 organizations and about 80,000 researchers perform scientific activities on a daily basis. Besides, nearly 4,000 applications for inventions, 9,000 applications for useful models and 2,500 applications for industrial patterns are submitted annually. At the same time, metadata that accompanies various research activities as well as information that describes the research output is fragmented and resides in different, heterogeneous systems or in some cases is absent in machine readable format. Such a situation makes the reporting process tiring and highly time consuming as institutional research offices have to search in several different systems, including commercial, subscription based databases like Web of Science and Scopus. Moreover, lack of state-of-the-art research information is one of the deficiencies of the scientific landscape, which negatively impact funding allocation. In this poster we would like to present our progress on building National Current Research Information System and provide overview of research infrastructure in Ukraine
A VIVO Community Update: Reflections on the Last Year and Where We Are Headed
Extended abstract presented at the CRIS2022 conference in Dubrovnik.-- Event programme available at https://cris2022.srce.hr/#section-program15 slides.-- Presentation delivered within the VIVO Track at CRIS20222021 and the pandemic was a challenge for the VIVO community as much as anyone else. Pandemic-related challenges for our members resulted have affected our community. The pandemic also limited our ability to get together at community events like the annual VIVO Conference
Linking research information within the knowledge portal - the Bridge of Knowledge services for researchers
Poster presented at the CRIS2022 conference in Dubrovnik.-- Event programme available at https://cris2022.srce.hr/#section-program27 slides.-- Presentation delivered within the poster session on May 13thIn 2016, the Gdańsk University of Technology (Gdańsk Tech) launched the project titled "Multidisciplinary Open System Transferring Knowledge" (in Polish: "Multidyscyplinarny Otwarty System Transferu Wiedzy – MOST Wiedzy"). The acronym of the project (MOST Wiedzy) means "the Bridge of Knowledge". The project's main aim was to build an IT platform (mostwiedzy.pl) that supports sharing information about universities' achievements and the research potential of their researchers. The second stage of the project, the implementation of which began in 2018, is a continuation of the previous one. The "Bridge of Data" project (Bridge of Data – Multidisciplinary Open System Transferring Knowledge. Stage II Open Research Data) was established to support researchers in their activities regarding different Open Science layers. It provides both an open data repository and a range of additional services for researchers who want to share their research results openly. The project is unique in this part of Central and Eastern Europe. It involves three Pomeranian universities: Gdańsk University of Technology (leader), the University of Gdańsk, and the Medical University of Gdańsk. More universities and research institutes are now joining the consortium and will use the infrastructure that has been create
