The North Rhine-Westphalian CRIS-Initiative CRIS.NRW – An update on a cooperative approach
11 slides.-- Presentation delivered within Session 6 "Contributions from euroCRIS members"Over three years since the previous project snapshot provided at the Autumn 2019 euroCRIS meeting in Münster (the last euroCRIS membership meeting held on-site before the pandemic), the presentation provides an update on the CRIS.NRW project to implement research information management systems in all public universities in the German state of North-Rhine Westphalia. This comprises 14 universities and 16 universities of applied sciences with different process landscapes and technical interoperability requirements. The software solution that CRIS.NRW is adopting is HISinOne-RES + VIVO and this comes with the parallel goal of enabling the Research Core Dataset (KDSF) as a reporting standard for all institutions.The presentation summarises the challenges faced by the project -- highlighting the multiple roles the CRIS.NRW entity is expected to fulfill and the very complex technical integration landscape with a wealth of previously existing systems in the various institutions -- and the goals it has already achieved

Using CRIS data to generate customized research outcome on university websites

Thus, we connected the CRIS data to our web content management system (WCMS) to provide a smooth solution for easy creating individual content on websites: On a personal, organizational and university level. Internal identifiers and the underlying organizational structure can be used as filters to directly create various lists of research outcomes. Furthermore, this method also includes the possibility to connect additional data spaces, e.g. repositories and other research information systems. Our approach enables us to comprehensively present and evaluate university research outcome to the public

Connecting authors to their work – the challenges and successes

Creating a comprehensive list – retrospectively and for ongoing new research - is not a simple task and often institutions rely on manual work. There are multiple challenges from lack of or inconsistent metadata to missing identifiers. In this session we are discussing the use of algorithms, developed with machine learning methodologies, for automating the author-work associating at scale. Using the example of Smart Harvesting in Esploro, we outline the challenges and the successes of such an approach
National research e-infrastructure landscape and trends

This effort involves the integration and interconnection of computational hardware and software technology, data resources and services, communications protocols and networks, as well as the human resources and organisational structures required to support modern, internationally leading collaborative research. The emerging national-level e-infrastructure in Croatia is outlined with an emphasis on Open Science implementation, including initiatives like the Croatian Open Science Cloud (HR-OOZ) and the CroRIS national CRIS currently under development
euroCRIS – Research Information Exchange and Aggregation Across Institutions, Regions and Countries

STI Data for Administrative and Statistical Purposes: Building New Synergies Through the OECD MARIAD Group
21 slides.-- Presentation delivered remotely as closing talk on the SMM2022 Nijmegen Day IIThe presentation summarises the work done by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in the area of Science, technology and innovation (STI) policy and data. Key challenges to address in this domain are the low quality of the available STI data, its low re-use and the fact that the data is not shared or linked.The in-depth OECD case study of the STI landscape in Norway is presented as an example of this OECD work. The OECD Expert Group on Management and Analysis of Research and Innovation Administrative Data (MARIAD) was launched in 2021 to collect and examine administrative data for STI indicators and analysis within a wider NESTI (National Experts on Science and Technology Indicators) remit on R&D performance and R&D funding. The MARIAD Expert Group was created by the NESTI as a mechanism for systematic engagement with R&D funders, and its goals include among other the examination and promotion of technical research information standards and of the multilateral exchange of data and information

The Luxembourg National Research Fund and ChronosHub: Lessons learned from implementing an Open Access Management platform
Extended abstract presented at the CRIS2022 conference in Dubrovnik.-- Event programme available at https://cris2022.srce.hr/#section-program16 slides.-- Presentation delivered within the session "Open Science implementation [II]"In 2020, the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR), the National Library of Luxembourg (BnL), and ChronosHub joined forces and embarked on a collaborative journey to help address and resolve challenges emerging from OA developments in the research ecosystem. In 2017, FNR introduced its first Open Access Policy and created an Open Access Fund to contribute to APC costs for publications resulting from FNR funded research. The administrative burden for FNR and institutions in general was prominent, causing a lot of painful processes that impacted the entire workflow. Prompted to find a solution to enhance and improve the infrastructure and address these challenges, FNR and BnL entered a pilot with ChronosHub, a platform that offers a 360-degree approach to OA Management. Now, FNR, BnL, and ChronosHub have moved on to sign a long-term operational agreement to streamline OA management on a national level which ties in all research institutions in the country. Luxembourg now has a systematic approach to drive Open Access, FAIR data, and Open Science and the partnership between ChronosHub and Luxembourg has helped optimize the interplay and the communication between FNR, publishers, institutions, and authors
