    Get PDF
The convergence of metaverse technologies (such as virtual reality, augmented reality, artificial intelli-gence, and digital twins) into biotechnology is ushering in a new age for the creation of pharmaceuticals, medical science research, and teaching. The interactive and immersive environments enable collaboration without geographical limitations through virtual labs, improve the articulation of complex biological processes, and accelerate experiments using enhanced models powered by artificial intelligence. High-visibility use cases comprise virtual clinical trials founded on digital twin models that simulate individual patient profiles. The application of AI in drug discovery medicine, with its expedited time-to-market and 3D learning environments, enhances the knowledge and procedural precision of biotech professionals. This study employs a qualitative methodological approach, comprising an extensive literature review coupled with a case study analysis, to reflect on the participation of metaverse technologies within the biotechnology sector. This systematic review focuses on the transformative role of the metaverse in biotechnolo-gy, analysing its capacity to enable global collaboration, advanced simulations, and immer-sive education. By synthesising peer-reviewed literature (2019-2025), we highlight key ad-vancements, such as AI-driven drug discovery and virtual laboratories, while addressing critical challenges, including data privacy, ethical concerns, and computational require-ments. In this review, we aim to highlight the metaverse’s potential to transform biotechno-logical research and emphasise the need for interdisciplinary solutions to harness its bene-fits. Drawing on an analysis of trends in cloud collaboration, digital simulation, immersive learning, and ethical issues, the research provides a critical analysis of the challenges and problems posed by the digital revolution. Key areas discussed in immense detail include data privacy, algorithm bias, computational infrastructure, and regulatory uncertainty. Our findings emphasise the need for interdisciplinary research and the provision of comprehensive ethi-cal and technical guidelines to enable the secure and equitable use of metaverse technologies in biotech-nology. This study will primarily contribute to the growing corpus of scholarly literature by providing a concise and logical synthesis of existing knowledge, identifying key areas for future research and devel-opment

In Niger, water bodies are subject to physical and chemical disturbances, which is the origine of their quality deterioration. The aim of this study was to diagnose the disturbances in water quality caused by anthropic activities on Lake Guidimouni, based on the physicochemical state and metal pollution. In this order, measurements were carried out on water and sediments in situ: T°, CE, TDS, pH, OD and in the laboratory: SM, Cl-, SO42-, HCO3-, CO3-, NO3-, NO2-, NH4+, P, Pb, Zn, Cu, Fe and Cd. For the sediments, the granulometry and the organic matter content were determined. The results showed alkaline water in the cold season (pH 9.3) (risk of NH3 toxicity), a higher organic load in the hot and rainy season (NH4+ 2.9 mg/L and phosphorus 23.8 mg/L), indicating a high risk of eutrophication with a very low level of DO 3 mg/L (risk of asphyxiation) in the rainy season. Moderate to high anthropogenic pollution (chloride 100.7 mg/L). All the MTE analyzed in the water and sediments were detected, however, at levels in accordance with the standards except for Pb (51.26 to 63.82 µg/L), which shows the beginning of metallic pollution of the lake. Corrective measures must be considered in order to preserve local biodiversity

    Get PDF
Urban forests have long been regarded as ornamental, structural spaces designed to meet urban planning needs. Today, research on urban forests has developed new concepts for their creation, conservation, and management. This study, conducted in Niamey, Niger, aims to assess the spatio-temporal variability of woody biomass between 2007 and 2024 using the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), as well as to characterize the diversity and structure of woody vegetation in sites reforested during the National Tree Day (FNA) using dendrometric surveys. Landsat IGN images were used to determine changes in vegetation cover between these two years. Two categories of data were collected: planimetric data and forest inventory data. The latter was conducted in 71 circular plots with a radius of 12.62 m. Landsat IGN images from January 2007 and January 2024, with a resolution of 30 m, were used to assess vegetation cover and extract NDVI values. The NDVI was calculated using ENVI 5 and mapped with ArcGIS 10. The results show a 12.61% reduction in non-vegetated areas due to annual reforestation efforts, including those from National Tree Day and other initiatives. The established sites generally exhibit moderate species diversity, with an average Shannon index of 3.86 bits, a Pielou evenness index of 0.74, a Simpson index of 0.14, a Margalef index of 3.17, and an average density of 41.60 ± 16.24 stems/ha. The distribution of individuals by diameter class also varies across sites, displaying bell-shaped, jagged, and "L"-shaped structures. Overall, the findings of this study provide updated information on woody species in these sites, ensuring their dual role in conserving woody biodiversity and delivering ecosystem services to urban residents and neighboring communities

    Get PDF
Côte d’Ivoire is a West African country with around sixty languages. Furthermore, none of its local languages have been used as a medium of instruction. French enjoys all the statuses. This situation does not seem to contribute to the efficient schooling of Ivorian learners. Indeed, many learners do not have sustained proficiency in the French language, which is not the case for their native language. Following a methodological approach of fieldwork and collection of qualitative data, this reflection aims to work towards adapting speech therapy to the Ivorian linguistic context, with a view to better prognosis and objective management of language pathologies, particularly in reading. Our research is based on a functionalist theoretical approach (Martine, 1980), with the aim of identifying the linguistic specificities of different languages. Furthermore, studies conducted in a public primary school in Bondoukou in the northeast of Côte d’Ivoire proved that many learners in primary school (CMI) experience significant reading difficulties. These learners are, in fact, considered dyslexic, without considering issues of obvious linguistic interference. This prognosis seems hasty and should be reconsidered by all actors (teachers and speech therapists). Thus, didactic manuals used to teach learners must consider the linguistic realities of learners in the evaluation of their academic performance

EU (Market) in Sight, Russia at the Gate: Three Decades of Aspiration and Resistance

    Get PDF
Since 1991, Georgia has followed a difficult yet ambitious path. The declaration of independence and the pursuit of a Euro-Atlantic future placed the country before numerous formidable challenges: Russian occupation, economic collapse, hybrid warfare, painful transitions of ruling power, and deep political polarization. Despite these obstacles, Georgia emerged as a leading Eastern Partnership country, implemented notable digital and infrastructure reforms, and secured EU candidacy in 2023. This parallel dual process reflects both the nation’s steadfast commitment to its European choice and the persistent efforts to break its resilience from the North. Georgia’s progress, achieved amid external sabotage, faced renewed destabilization after its inclusion in the EU enlargement package. What war could not accomplish, Russia pursued through media influence, capital inflows, market manipulation, and exploitation of Georgia’s unresolved vulnerabilities, ultimately reorienting its economy. The failure of the DCFTA further weakened Georgia’s European trajectory, while Russian immigration and asset flows reshaped its political landscape. This article questions whether the EU acted too late in opening broader access to the internal market for Georgia. In parallel with political processes, could earlier and more intensive market integration have ensured stability, economic convergence, and social well-being? Instead of a fragmented model, could this have fostered a synchronized process of political, economic, and social Europeanization? Does Georgia’s trajectory reflect not only a national setback, but also a broader failure of the EU’s influence in the region
