University Students’ Perceptions of a CLIL-Based Model in Teaching Aviation English Listening Skills
The study investigates university students’ perceptions of using a Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) approach to teach Aviation English listening skills. The integration of content knowledge with language acquisition has gained momentum in English for Specific Purposes (ESP), particularly in aviation training contexts where comprehension of authentic radio communication is critical. A mixed-methods design was employed involving 60 undergraduate aviation students at Georgian Aviation University. Data were collected via a perception questionnaire and semi-structured interviews. Results indicate that the majority of students viewed the CLIL-based approach positively, citing improved comprehension, contextual vocabulary acquisition, and increased engagement. However, some challenges, such as cognitive overload and unfamiliar terminology, were also reported. These findings suggest that CLIL holds promise for Aviation English instruction, provided that pedagogical scaffolding and appropriate materials are in place
Tridax procumbens is a plant traditionally known in Africa and used to treat numerous pathologies such as fever, dysentery, and diabetes. The aim of this study was to evaluate the hypoglycaemic properties of Tridax procumbens leaf powder in normal and alloxan-induced diabetic rats. Blood glucose levels (g/l) were determined every three (3) days. Tridax procumbens leaf powder significantly lowered blood glucose levels in fasting rats, which were close to normal levels after 30 days of diabetes induction. Our results show that Tridax procumbens leaf powder has hypoglycaemic properties. This opens the way for its use in the development of improved traditional medicines (ITM) for diabetes
This study was conducted from January 2023 to January 2024 in four fishponds in the Centre region, with the main objective of evaluating the diversity of benthic macroinvertebrates in relation to the physicochemical quality of these fishponds. Sampling of benthic macroinvertebrates followed a multi-habitat approach, using a square kick net measuring 30 cm on each side with a 400 µm mesh opening. The collected organisms were fixed in 10% formalin contained in glass vials. In the laboratory, specimens were washed with running water, then preserved in 70% alcohol before identification and counting operations. Physicochemical analyses showed that the waters were low in oxygen (O2 = 31.72 ± 19.75%), weakly mineralized (120.08 ± 28.61 µS/cm), and had a slightly basic pH (pH = 7.37 ± 0.40 UC). These low values are indicative of organic pollution in these aquatic environments. These values suggest that these waters are generally of poor quality and are likely to cause stress and potential losses for aquatic organisms. During this study, faunal analysis allowed for the inventory of 9140 individuals belonging to 3 phyla (Mollusca, Annelida, and Arthropoda), 3 classes (Gastropoda, Insecta, and Achates), 8 orders, and 32 families. The Mollusca phylum accounted for 7344 individuals, representing 80.35% relative abundance, followed by Arthropoda with 1795 individuals, or 19.63% relative abundance, and finally Annelida with 1 individual, or 0.01% relative abundance. The Mollusca phylum was dominant with a relative abundance of 80.35%. The dominance of this phylum indicates their pollution resistance and that the ponds are impacted by organic pollution. High values of the Shannon and Weaver diversity index (3.25 bits/ind.) and Pielou's Evenness (0.60) over time showed ecological balance in the MBK1 fishpond, indicating the good ecological health of this fishpond. Conversely, low values of these diversity indices Shannon and Weaver (0.37 bits/ind.) and Pielou's Evenness (0.44) over time showed an imbalance in the YDE1 fishpond, favoring the development of a single family, the Thiaridae family. Analysis of the Organic Pollution Index (OPI) values showed that the waters of the studied fishponds are subject to high pollution, suggesting poor biological quality
Integrated Landscape Approaches: Definitions, Conceptualizations, Configurations, and Objectives through the Lens of Distributed Leadership Practices
While it is widely recognised that integrated landscape approaches are strategic management and leadership strategies used by project team leadership to design, develop, and implement projects within integrated transboundary landscapes and seascapes, it is, however, less clear how they are defined, conceptualised, configured and operationalised to achieve desired outcomes. This study contributes to knowledge by providing a new configuration and conceptualisation of the integrated transboundary landscapes and seascapes conceptual framework; the four principles of integrated landscape approaches - (1) Landscape Partnership, (2) Shared Understanding, (3) Vision and Planning, and (4) Taking Action - need to be seen as strategic management and leadership objectives of the activity systems. To achieve this, the relationship between the four principles of integrated landscape approaches - (1) Landscape Partnership, (2) Shared Understanding, (3)Vision and Planning, and (4) Taking Action - as strategic management and leadership objectives is explored, drawing theoretical foundations from the four widely used distributed leadership practices: engaging, developing, enabling, and empowering. Data were collected through a survey instrument distributed to a sample of 420 participants, followed by statistical analysis using EFA and CFA to validate the model. The findings and implications of the results suggest the existence of a strong relationship between the integrated landscape approaches and the four practices of distributed leadership. It is revealed that (i) they draw from theoretical foundations; (ii) they operate independently of one another; (iii) they exhibit high levels of cross-loading; (iv) they can be integrated into a network of activity systems; (v) they require enactment in a specific order of primacy to function effectively; and (vi) they constitute a normative decision- making framework
The Mediating Role of Engagement and Culture in the Relationship Between Paternalism, Organizational Identification and Voice Behavior
This study investigates the mediating effects of work engagement and organizational culture in the relationship between paternalistic leadership, organizational identification, and voice behavior within the context of Jordanian industrial shareholding companies. The research sample was drawn from a population of 3,612 managers occupying top and mid-level positions across 239 companies, as listed by the Jordanian Ministry of Industry and Trade. For the purposes of this research, large firms were classified as those with a workforce of 500 employees or more. A stratified random sampling technique was adopted to enhance sample representativeness, resulting in a calculated minimum sample size of 347 respondents. From the 400 questionnaires distributed, 347 were returned, of which 318 were deemed suitable for statistical analysis, corresponding to a valid response rate of 79.5%. A quantitative research design was employed, utilizing Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) through SmartPLS software to test the hypothesized relationships. The results revealed that paternalistic leadership has a significant and direct positive effect on both organizational identification and voice behavior. Similarly, organizational culture demonstrated a substantial positive influence on these outcomes. Moreover, work engagement was found to be positively correlated with organizational identification and voice behavior. Importantly, the analysis confirmed the mediating roles of both organizational culture and work engagement. Specifically, organizational culture mediated the relationship between paternalistic leadership and both organizational identification and voice behavior. Additionally, work engagement served as a mediator in the relationship between paternalistic leadership and these two dependent variables. These results highlight the pivotal role of internal organizational dynamics - namely culture and employee engagement - in strengthening leadership effectiveness and fostering constructive employee behavior in industrial organizations operating in Jordan
This study addresses the lack of resources for effectively managing the cognitive load induced by complex learning situations in Life and Earth Sciences, Environmental Education, Hygiene, and Biotechnology (LESEEHB). It aims to analyze the influence of knowledge schematization strategies as a means of reducing the cognitive load placed on learners when processing knowledge acquired in LESEEHB. in Cameroon. Data collected from a self-administered questionnaire completed by 279 participants, selected using stratified random sampling, were analyzed using regression analysis. The results show that: the learner's attentional dispositions during learning, the prioritization of learning, the in-depth processing of transmitted knowledge, and the proceduralization of declarative knowledge are variously linked to the reduction of cognitive load. Learners must therefore understand and analyze acquired concepts in order to lighten cognitive resources for in-depth, economical, meaningful, and efficient processing of knowledge
The Senegalese coastline is broadly affected by the issue of coastal erosion, with an average shoreline retreat rate of approximately 1 m/year. The morpho-sedimentary dynamics of the beaches in the city of Rufisque are a complex phenomenon resulting from the interaction between natural forces and human activities, exerting significant impacts on both the environment and socio-economic activities. This study aims to analyze the environmental and socio-economic impacts of the morphodynamic evolution of Rufisque beaches. A methodological approach combining field data and geospatial datasets was adopted. Field observations provided insights into the direct impacts of shoreline changes on human activities and coastal ecosystems. These observations were complemented by satellite imagery, processed using remote sensing and Geographic Information System (GIS) techniques, to map the spatio-temporal dynamics of the coastline and quantify shoreline change rates. The results reveal significant coastal erosion over recent decades, confirming that Rufisque coastline is subject to a predominantly erosive trend, with an average retreat rate of 0.39 m/year between 1979 and 2024. The eroded segments are characterized by coastal environmental degradation in the city of Rufisque, with adverse effects on infrastructure and socio-economic activities
From Immanence to Becoming: Beauvoir, Nietzsche, and the Feminist Monologue in The Patience Stone
The article explores the feminist existentialist dimensions of Atiq Rahimi’s The Patience Stone (2008), situating the unnamed female protagonist’s radical monologue within a broader philosophical lineage that includes Simone de Beauvoir and Friedrich Nietzsche. Drawing on Beauvoir’s The Ethics of Ambiguity (2004) and Nietzsche’s The Gay Science (1974) the stusy frames the woman’s struggle against immanence and patriarchal silencing as a philosophical revolt. Beauvoir’s humanist existentialism provides a lens for understanding the protagonist’s resistance to passive identity, while Nietzsche’s concept of revaluation of values illuminates her defiant articulation of desire, trauma, and agency. The protagonist’s transformation from passive to self-authoring entity echoes Nietzschean call to transcenf herd morality and affirm the self through creative resistance. By bridging Beauvoir’s ethics with Nietzsche’s radical critique of moral normativity, this study argues that The Patience Stone stages a feminist revolt that is both existential and genealogical - dismantling inherited structures of meaning while forging new modes of becoming. Ultimately, enacts a philosophical drama of voice, vulnerability, and value creation in a context where silence has long been mistaken for virtue
This article addresses one of the traditional leisure activities popular in the Ivorian Islamic community. Kouroubi is a traditional dance practiced by young girls in the town of Mankono as a leisure activity with religious overtones. This cultural practice, performed during Ramadan, is actually a time for young girls, most of whom are pubescent, to be introduced to the marriage market in the Kôyaka social space. With current societal changes, this cultural practice is in decline. This article, therefore, aims to understand the problems related to the preservation of kouroubi in Tonhoulé. Its implementation employed a methodological approach combining qualitative and quantitative methods. A sample of thirty (30) people was interviewed using convenience and snowball techniques. More specifically, the study involved 20 girls (target population) and 10 resource persons, including two imams, two supervisors, and six (06) witness actors. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and content analysis methods. Malinowski's functionalist theory and G. Rocher's social change theory served as the scientific basis for the interpretations. The results revealed that the high school enrollment rate, combined with the use of telecommunications tools, significantly reduced the practice of kouroubi in Mankono. Furthermore, the rapid urbanization of Mankono's outlying areas has negatively influenced the practice of kouroubi among young girls
The expansion of Vending in the Automated Retail Sector: An experiential marketing approach to customer acquisition- The Italian experience of MatiPay Srl
“Automated retail” and “vending” refer to the sale of products through machines, often without direct human intervention, acting as unattended points of sale. This includes beverage vending machines, smart fridges, self-service laundromats, car washes, electric car charging stations, and more. Vending is a specific form of automated retail where the vending machine acts as an autonomous point of sale and a payment point. Simultaneously, it serves as a promotional and marketing tool for customer engagement. This objective is both comprehensive and complex, as the point of sale is entirely digital and unattended, yet it establishes a connection and digital dialogue with the customer through dedicated commercial offers and promotional messages. This process creates an innovative Customer Experience that links the customer to novel methods of communication and payment, thereby redefining the brand's image and reputation. The primary aim of this paper is to demonstrate the importance of implementing automated payment and telemetry systems to facilitate product sales and service delivery, enabling businesses to reach customers anywhere, even without a human presence. The methodology used is a descriptive empirical analysis, based on Data provided by an Italian Company, MatiPay Srl, based in Mola di Bari (Italy). It is based on company Data collected daily by MatiPay's staff and entered into MatiPay's software systems. The first system is the Microsoft Dynamics 365° Customer Relationship Management (CRM) System, which consolidates all data from proactive business development efforts, including leads to opportunities, marketing supplier surveys, and marketing customer surveys. The second system is MatiPay's E-commerce platform, which consolidates all inbound business development data, including client profiles, their needs, and their purchases. The results of this analysis confirm a strong relationship between the improvement of advanced telemetry systems, new digital payment methods, and the innovative customer experience
