Assessment of Health Professionals' Knowledge Regarding Risk Factors During Home Radiography
Aim and purpose: The knowledge of health professionals about the potential risks of using ionizing radiation plays an important role in protecting themselves and patients. The use of mobile radiography units poses several threats to workers such as radiation exposure, ergonomic injuries and musculoskeletal disorders from the constant use of lead feet and moving the portable radiography machine. The aim of the study is to highlight the knowledge background of healthcare professionals on radiation and radiation protection. Methodology: 72 questionnaires were distributed and 60 were returned with an overall response rate of 83%. The main sections addressed through the questionnaire were demographic data, knowledge background on radiation dose and radiation protection rules and measures. Statistical analysis of the data was performed using SPSS software. Results: From the results, the deficit of the knowledge background of health professionals on radiation and radiation protection is evident. It emerged that health professionals, especially medical doctors - radiologists have knowledge of the dose received by the patient when performing a chest X-ray in a percentage of 75%. Also, 6.6% of the respondents stated that they rarely or never use a protective lead apron, while 5% of the respondents stated that they never use a personal dosimeter. Conclusion: The guidelines for radiation protection of workers and patients when performing home radiography should be based on the pillars of continuous training of staff, but also on adherence to the very basic principle of justification
Combining Biosafety Experts’ Evaluations and Workers’ Perceptions to Disclose Biological Risks in Biomedical Laboratories
Objectives: This paper focuses on examining the biological risks in biomedical laboratories of public hospitals in Athens, Greece, by combining expert evaluations and laboratory workers’ perception. It also aimed to review how personnel managed biological materials, assess the level of safety awareness and training of workers, and propose hazards mitigation actions according to local legislation and international biosafety guidelines. Materials and Methods: A total of 36 biosafety level 2 (BSL-2) laboratories in 20 hospitals were evaluated for biosafety containment specifications and adherence to biosafety procedures. The study was conducted as a cross-sectional survey using a checklist and a detailed health and safety (H&S) questionnaire, focusing on biosafety and biorisk management. An expert biosafety officer inspected and completed a checklist for each laboratory (n=36) across the 20 hospitals. Additionally, 415 lab professionals completed a biosafety-specific health and safety questionnaire. Results: Both the checklists and questionnaires revealed that, although some positive findings were observed, a significant percentage of laboratories lacked effective management of biological agents and materials overall. The main deficiencies identified included restricted access, safety equipment, standard operating procedures (SOPs), biorisk management systems, risk assessments, biosafety manuals, biosafety officers, accident reporting, and biosafety training programs. Conclusion: The significant shortcomings in some areas of engineering and administrative controls, as well as in the implementation of Greek and European biosafety legislation, demonstrate that the laboratories do not fully comply with internationally accepted BSL-2 standards. Therefore, there is an urgent need for more comprehensive and proactive measures, adequate biosafety training for workers, and stricter enforcement of existing laws and directives to ensure the safety of laboratory professionals, the community, and the environment
How do travel bloggers influence Generation Z‘s travel decisions? An exploratory study through five Italian famous travel bloggers
The increasing adoption of new communication channel such as social networks in Generation Z has created new job professional during the last decade: travel bloggers. The aim of this paper is to understand the influence of travel bloggers on Generation Z’s travel decisions. A mixed qualitative and quantitative survey design was employed for this study. Empirical data were drawn from 475 Generation Z’s travellers in Italy, using a purposive sampling technique. The results of this study reveal that travel bloggers for Generation Z’s travel decision making are lightly relevant. This study is amongst the first to empirically investigate the influence of travel bloggers on tourism decision making of Generation Z travellers in the realm of social and mobile business. The paper offers relevant theoretical and managerial implications. First, the paper enriches the travel decision-making Generation Z theory by providing evidence of factors leading to the higher sharing of influence amongst travellers. Second, the paper adds to the literature on Generation Z, demonstrating the individual determinants of influencers sharing videos and photos about products and services in online tourism communities. Thus, building upon the findings of this study, the authors provide some guidelines for travel blogger to promoting destination on social media pages
Analyzing Stock Market Dynamics for 10 Leading US Companies: A Multi-Dimensional Approach Using Time Series and Correlation Analysis
This paper employs detailed time series and correlation analyses to thoroughly explore the stock market dynamics of 10 leading US corporations. Historical stock data from January 2022 to July 2023, on a daily basis, is analyzed with a focus on key indicators such as transaction volumes, price trajectories, and their interactions. The methodology combines data normalization, GARCH modeling, and descriptive statistics to ensure robust and reliable findings. The results reveal strong correlations among price indicators but question the reliability of trading volumes as predictors of price changes. Tesla’s upward price trajectory highlights investor optimism, while Netflix’s volatility underscores sector-specific challenges. These findings emphasize the significance of time series and correlation analysis in forecasting stock market trends and informing strategic decision-making. The study uncovers critical patterns and linkages governing market behavior, offering valuable insights into investor psychology and strategic decision-making processes
Modalités de consommation, usages alimentaires et thérapeutiques de 15 espèces végétales locales fréquemment utilisées au Niger
Dans la droite ligne de l’assertion, qui veut que « ton aliment soit ton remède », la présente étude vise à déterminer les modalités de consommation, les usages alimentaires et thérapeutiques de quelques espèces locales dans la lutte contre la malnutrition et des maladies. Ainsi une enquête a été menée avec un échantillonnage par commodité auprès de 200 participants à savoir les tradipraticiens, les revendeurs, les transformateurs, les personnes âgées et des femmes en âge de procréer. L’étude a permis d’identifier une grande diversité d’organes utilisés dans l’alimentation humaine et thérapeutique. Les fruits entiers, les pulpes et les graines sont les plus utilisés respectivement avec 46,30% ,38,02% et 85,99%. La poudre, avec 45,80%, était le principal mode de préparation. Les principaux modes de consommation sont la sauce (19,25%), la bouillie (17,60%), la tisane (13,43%), le jus (12,13%), le lait (3,12%) et autres recettes (35,74%). Les raisons d’utilisation moyennes des espèces étaient le manque d’appétit (3,47%), la prise de poids (14,28%), l’aliment (76,11%), le complément alimentaire (10,00%), pour avoir la force (6,64%) et le sang (6,67%). Il faut noter que (72,68%) des participants ne connaissent pas les usages médicinaux de ces plantes. Les utilisations pour le traitement de maladies concernent : Adansonia digitata (11,04%) et Parkia biglobosa (25%) pour traiter la diarrhée ; Adansonia digitata (49,41%), Ziziphus mauritiana (13,51%), Pennisetum glaucum (16,17%) et le Sclerocarya birrea (17,94%) pour le traitement de l’hémorroïde. Quant à Vigna unguiculata, elle est utilisée contre l’inflammation à 14,56% et le Ziziphus mauritiana pour le traitement de la fièvre (4,50%). Ces résultats confirment que les espèces peuvent être utilisées dans la prise en charge de la malnutrition et de certaines maladies.
In line with the assertion that “your food is your medicine”, this study aims to determine the consumption methods, food and therapeutic uses of 7 non-wood and 8 Wood local species, out which 17 feeds were sampled. Thus, a survey was conducted centering on a sample of 200 willing participants, namely traditional practitioners, resellers, processors, elderly people and women of childbearing age. The study made it possible to identify a wide diversity of organs used in human food and therapeutics. Whole fruits, pulps and seeds are the most used at 46.30%, 38.02% and 85.99% respectively. Powder, with 45.80%, was the main method of preparation. The main modes of consumption are sauce (19.25%), porridge (17.60%), herbal tea (13.43%), juice (12.13%), milk (3.12%) and other feed revenues (35.74%). The average reasons for species use were lack of appetite (3.47%), weight gain (14.28%), food (76.11%), food supplement (10.00%), to have strength (6.64%) and blood (6.67%). It should be noted that (72.68%) of participants do not know the medicinal uses of these plants. Uses for the treatment of diseases include: Adansonia digitata (11.04%) and Parkia biglobosa (25%) to treat diarrhea; Adansonia digitata (49.41%), Ziziphus mauritiana (13.51%), Pennisetum glaucum (16.17%) and Sclerocarya birrea (17.94%) for the treatment of hemorrhoids. As for Vigna unguiculata, it is used against inflammation at 14.56% and Ziziphus mauritiana for the treatment of fever (4.50%). These results confirm that species can be used in the treatment of malnutrition and certain diseases
Enquête ethnomédicale sur Vernonia djalonensis A. Chev à Dalaba, Guinée
Vernonia djalonensis A. Chev. est une plante endémique de Guinée, particulièrement menacée par l’urbanisation à Dalaba. Objectif : Cette étude visait à documenter ses usages ethno-médicaux et à sensibiliser sur la nécessité de sa conservation. Méthodologie : La collecte des données réalisée sur une période de huit (8) mois, a consisté à montrer la plante aux populations pour connaître les différents usages. Un échantillonnage raisonné a permis d’interroger 130 personnes (97 hommes et 33 femmes) dans la commune urbaine de Dalaba. L’utilisation d'entretiens directs et semi-structurés à l'aide d'une fiche validée par la Chaire de pharmacognosie a été realisée. Résultats : montrent que 98,53 % des répondants utilisent cette plante, principalement contre la toux symptomatique. La plante entière est utilisée, avec une préférence pour les feuilles. La décoction est la méthode de préparation la plus courante. Les analyses phytochimiques ont révélé la présence de tanins, flavonoïdes et saponosides dans les feuilles, tiges et racines. Conclusion : L'importance de cette recherche réside dans la documentation des usages ethno-médicaux de Vernonia djalonensis, une plante endémique menacée par l'urbanisation à Dalaba. En identifiant ses applications traditionnelles, notamment contre la toux symptomatique, et en mettant en évidence ses composés bioactifs. Cette étude ouvre la voie à l'exploitation de cette plante pour le développement de traitements naturels. De plus, elle souligne la nécessité urgente de préserver cette espèce, non seulement pour la biodiversité locale, mais aussi pour la conservation des savoirs médicinaux traditionnels.
Vernonia djalonensis A. Chev. is an endemic plant in Guinea, particularly threatened by urbanization in Dalaba. Objective: This study aimed to document its ethnomedicinal uses and raise awareness about the need for its conservation. Methodology: Data collection, conducted over eight (8) months, involved showing the plant to the local population to understand its various uses. A purposive sampling method was used to interview 130 people (97 men and 33 women) in the urban commune of Dalaba. Direct and semi-structured interviews were conducted using a form validated by the Chair of Pharmacognosy. Results: The findings show that 98.53% of respondents use this plant, primarily for treating coughs. The whole plant is used, with a preference for the leaves. Decoction is the most common preparation method. Phytochemical analyses revealed the presence of tannins, flavonoids, and saponins in the leaves, stems, and roots. Conclusion: This research highlights the ethnomedicinal uses of Vernonia djalonensis, an endemic plant threatened by urbanization in Dalaba. By documenting its traditional applications, particularly for treating symptomatic coughs, and identifying its bioactive compounds, this study provides a basis for developing natural remedies. Furthermore, it underscores the urgent need to preserve this species, not only to protect local biodiversity but also to conserve traditional medicinal knowledge
Impact of Official Development Assistance on Economic Growth in the East African Community
This research focuses on the effect of Official Development Assistance (ODA) on the economic development of the East African Community, with Trade openness as a moderating variable. This study adopts a Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) for 1974-2022 to investigate the cointegration between ODA balance, trade openness, and economic growth in five East African countries. The findings reveal a complex dynamic relationship: whereas ODA has a positive individual impact on economic growth, as well as the interaction of ODA and Trade openness also has a positive and significant effect. This indicates that the characteristics of trade policy condition the ability of ODA to promote economic growth. This means that characteristics of the trade policy condition the ability of ODA to promote economic growth. Based on the findings, the study adds to the ever-ongoing aid inefficiency discourse by underlining the necessity of an 'enabling environment' in the form of trade openness, significantly boosting the growth impact of ODA. These outcomes have significant implications for policymakers in countries of the third world where compliance with ODA missions could be made efficient by implementing the missions of trade openness. According to the study, there is a call for the strategies of foreign aid and trade liberalization toward the development of economic growth in developing countries
The Pivotal Role of Management Control in Times of Crisis: Enhancing Organizational Resilience and Strategic Adaptation
This article examines the transformation of management control, which has traditionally been regarded as a support function, into a central strategic lever in times of crisis. The study is focused on three core areas: the impact of management control mechanisms on organisational performance; their role in facilitating adaptation in a crisis context; and the influence of adopting new control tools on the company’s strategic direction. The research utilises a quantitative approach and is based on a sample of 97 companies across various sectors and sizes, ensuring diverse representation via non-stratified random sampling. Statistical techniques employed include Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Tests, quantile regression, and Spearman's correlation coefficients to validate the hypotheses. The findings demonstrate that management control is a key factor in enhancing performance, organisational resilience, and the implementation of a proactive strategy. Specifically, advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems were shown to enable companies to anticipate risks, seize opportunities, and strengthen their competitive advantage during crises. However, several limitations remain. These include the relatively small sample size, which restricts generalizability, the specific nature of the crises under study (COVID-19 crisis) and the potential for respondent bias, as most participants were senior executives or management controllers. These factors highlight the need for further research, particularly the exploration of additional crisis contexts and the use of mixed methodologies for a more comprehensive analysis
Innovative Green Aviation: Strategic Management and Technological Advancements in Airport Ecosystems
Adopting Sustainable Development Goals has driven significant changes in the aviation industry, and airport ecosystems are committed to minimizing their environmental impact. This article examines the sustainable strategies implemented within airport ecosystems and the associated technologies that support them. We develop a qualitative research approach anchored in documentary analysis and the theoretical framework of sustainable strategic management proposed by Stead and Stead (2004) that analyses sustainable strategies at a competitive and functional level. Strategies are defined from reports of airports certified with Level 5 of the Airport Carbon Accreditation program and official documents issued by non-governmental organizations and professional services firms such as KPMG, Deloitte, and McKinsey. The main strategies and technologies at a competitive level seek to reduce the carbon footprint by using renewable energy and electric vehicles, thus obtaining a cost advantage, and reducing resource depletion. Strategies and technologies that enable the exploitation of market opportunities are related to improving user experience and designing new routes using artificial intelligence. Total quality environmental management and environmental marketing strategies are relevant to primary activities, and the formation of infrastructure supporting long-term strategy stands out among the support activities. However, there is still a need for human resource management systems to have a sustainable vision. The aviation industry is known for its high level of complexity and the large number of actors involved in its operation, in this sense, using or developing technology and identifying its application in a concrete manner in the sustainable strategies of airports considered can favor the transition towards green aviation. Equally important is the formulation of public policies that encourage and support the transition towards decarbonization. However, it is the availability of financing the development of sustainable aircraft fuels, promoting research, technological developments, and the acquisition of machinery, equipment, and personnel training
Análisis de las dimensiones económica, social y ambiental de la sostenibilidad en las estrategias de las principales empresas de turismo espacial
Este estudio examina las estrategias de sostenibilidad implementadas por SpaceX, Blue Origin y Virgin Galactic en el contexto del turismo espacial emergente. A partir de una revisión de la bibliografía académica sobre las prácticas y políticas sostenibles de las empresas, así como de la consulta de sus sitios web oficiales, se realiza un análisis de las dimensiones económica, social y ambiental de la sostenibilidad con el fin de evaluar el compromiso de las principales empresas de turismo espacial con la reducción de costos, la inclusión social y la mitigación del impacto ambiental. El estudio concluye que, si bien se han realizado progresos notables, para lograr una sostenibilidad integral en el turismo espacial se requiere un enfoque más holístico y colaborativo que aborde de manera equitativa las dimensiones de la sostenibilidad.
This study examines the sustainability strategies implemented by SpaceX, Blue Origin and Virgin Galactic in the context of emerging space tourism. Based on a review of the academic literature on the companies' sustainable practices and policies as well as consultation with the companies' official websites, an analysis of the economic, social and environmental dimensions of sustainability is conducted to assess the commitment of the leading space tourism companies to cost reduction, social inclusion and environmental impact mitigation. The study concludes that while notable progress has been made, achieving comprehensive sustainability in space tourism requires a more holistic and collaborative approach that equitably addresses the dimensions of sustainability
