In recent years, there has been growing interest in using plants for the prevention and treatment of cancer, due to their rich variety of phytochemical constituents and limited side effects. This study focused on a medicinal plant species from the Ivorian flora to evaluate its cytotoxic potential on two cancer cell lines. Cytotoxicity was assessed using the MTS assay (tetrazolium [3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl) -5-(3-carboxymethoxyphenyl) -2-(4-sulfophenyl) -2H-tetrazolium]) on the prostate cancer cell line PC3 and the breast cancer cell line MCF-7, with doxorubicin used as the positive control for cell death. Antioxidant activity was evaluated using DPPH and ABTS assays, with ascorbic acid and gallic acid as respective standards. The best cytotoxic activity was observed on the PC3 cell line (IC50 = 17.79 ± 0.09 µg/mL). However, the antioxidant activity of this extract (IC50 = 13.97 ± 0.9 µg/mL in the DPPH assay and 66.77 ± 0.9 µg/mL in the ABTS assay) is less notable than that of the controls (IC50 of 7.09 ± 0.3 µg/mL for ascorbic acid and 21.47 ± 0.4 µg/mL for gallic acid). Nevertheless, Mezoneuron benthamianum demonstrated strong efficacy against PC3 cells, a cell line derived from prostate cancer. This plant could potentially lead to the discovery of new anticancer molecules that may be used in prostate cancer therapy

Parent-adolescent conflict is a global problem that confronts most families. It remains a key concern due to its consequences on emotional, social, and psychological well-being, as well as its long-term implications for the family and the adolescents' overall development. The purpose of this study was to explore the influence of parent-adolescent conflict on adolescents’ academic performance. The study adopted a qualitative approach and case study design. Thirty-two (32) participants were purposively selected from two Senior High Schools in the South Dayi District, and the data were thematically analyzed. Findings showed that poverty, neglect of parental obligations, broken homes, and single parenting were the leading causes of conflict between parents and adolescents. It was also revealed that parent-adolescent conflict resulted in school drop-out, lack of concentration in school, and early relationship with the opposite sex, among others. It was concluded that the adolescent stage is delicate; therefore, effective interventions and strategies must be initiated by the government in collaboration with district authorities and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), to enable educators, parents, and school counsellors to help adolescents who may be experiencing academic difficulties as a result of conflict at home. It was recommended that schools should develop comprehensive counselling services, including frequent counselling sessions, to help students facing adolescent-parent conflict focus on their academic work and manage their time properly

Teachers' Attitudes towards Using Cooperative Learning through Technology for Developing Writing Skills in a Military Context

    Get PDF
Teachers of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) consider writing one of the most challenging productive skills for military students to master. Writing is a vital skill for their future careers, as they must pass the high-stakes STANAG 6001 (Standardisation Agreement 6001) test for promotion. Teachers play a crucial role in teaching ESP by addressing students’ current needs and designing goal-oriented assignments to develop their writing skills and improve performance. Therefore, the purpose of the study was to explore ESP teachers’ attitudes toward using cooperative learning through technology to enhance writing skills and to assess their readiness to implement this instructional strategy, since successful implementation largely depends on teachers’ attitudes. The study used a quantitative approach. Data were collected through a questionnaire and analyzed with descriptive statistics. Participants included 58 teachers from various military educational institutions in NATO member, partner, and candidate countries such as Georgia, Ukraine, Latvia, and the UK. SPSS 27 was used for data analysis. The results show that most ESP teachers have positive attitudes toward using cooperative learning via technology to develop writing skills, as it can foster cooperation among English language learners. Although teachers note that students lack the necessary skills for effective cooperative group work and that the method places too much responsibility on students, these findings suggest that this complex approach has the potential to help military students improve their writing performance

Content on emerging digital platforms is an important area of research in Information and Communication Sciences (ICS). In this article, we examine how this type of content was received during the 2023-2025 Gaza war between the Palestinian movement Hamas and Israel. We surveyed 101 Moroccans holding a master’s degree or higher. We aimed to analyze their engagement with digital information and to explore the trends and preferences in their reception of new media processes. To this end, we carried out an exploratory survey involving 101 participants, based on a structured questionnaire. The survey sought to shed light on several aspects, including the impact of digital information presented in hybrid formats on news comprehension and on users' positions regarding the Palestinian cause, as well as the psychological effects of such information. While the findings are insightful, it is important to note that this study could be expanded to cover a more representative sample of the target population. This would enable us to generalize the results and provide a more comprehensive understanding of the subject matter.&nbsp

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study was to systematically examine depressive symptoms in students facing academic failure. To achieve this objective, a qualitative approach based on clinical methodology was used, allowing for an understanding of each participant's unique situation. The sample, which was selected using a non-probabilistic, opportunistic procedure, included five students who had all repeated their first year of undergraduate studies. Data was collected using two complementary tools: the life story technique, which explored the subjective and biographical dimensions of the students' experiences, and the Beck Depression Inventory – Adolescent Version, used as a psychometric instrument to objectively assess the presence and intensity of depressive symptoms. Data processing was based on the case study method, which allowed for an in-depth clinical analysis of individual trajectories. The convergent results from narrative analyses and psychometric scores indicate that all participants show signs of psychological distress in the form of depressive symptoms. These symptoms appear to be closely linked to the experience of academic failure, which can be potentially destabilizing for self-esteem, motivation, and feelings of competence. In light of these observations, the study highlights the importance of establishing institutional mental health and psychosocial support systems within universities. Such services would make it possible to support students in difficulty, prevent the intensification of depressive symptoms, and promote an academic environment conducive to well-being and success

    Get PDF
Marketing plays a central role in helping organizations retain existing customers and attract new ones in an increasingly competitive and rapidly evolving environment. Advances in communication technologies have expanded the ability of firms to reach and engage consumers through a mix of traditional and digital channels. This study investigates how Saudi telecom operators leverage these channels to influence consumer behavior, shape perceptions, and stimulate purchasing decisions. A qualitative case study methodology was adopted, incorporating four in-depth, semi-structured interviews with marketing communication and product management specialists from major local telecom operators. These interviews provided rich, practitioner-level insights into strategic communication practices. The primary data were complemented by secondary sources, including industry reports and prior academic literature, and analyzed using thematic analysis to identify recurring patterns and to compare them with established theories of marketing communication and consumer behavior. The results show a strong and purposeful relationship between marketing communication channels and consumer behavioral responses. Telecom operators in Saudi Arabia are increasingly dependent on digital platforms - particularly social media - for targeted engagement, real-time interaction, and influencing consumer motivations at the consideration stage. Meanwhile, traditional channels such as television and outdoor advertising continue to dominate large-scale brand-building campaigns due to their broad reach and credibility. The findings further reveal that communication style, message framing, and cross-channel integration play an essential role in shaping consumer attitudes, perceptions, and intentions. Consumers’ motivations are driven primarily by utilitarian factors such as pricing, network coverage, and data speed; however, emotional and hedonic elements are strategically incorporated to reinforce brand identity and enhance customer affinity. Overall, the study underscores the critical importance of marketing communication in shaping consumer behavior within the Saudi telecom industry and highlights the deliberate strategic alignment between communication activities and desired behavioral outcomes

Effect of the Energy Transition on Food Security: The Role of the Female Agricultural Workforce in WAEMU Countries

    Get PDF
This study analyses the role of women in the relationship between the energy transition and food security in the 8 WAEMU countries (1996-2022). The use of an ARDL model shows that the energy transition significantly and symmetrically improves food security in the short term, but has a negative and asymmetric effect in the long term. The interaction between the energy transition and the female agricultural workforce has a positive effect in the long term, but is neutral in the short term. We recommend maximising short-term benefits and actively involving women in agriculture to improve long-term food security

The results obtained show the similarity in potentially favorable resources for the development of rural tourism and also in the areas of opportunity such as Organization, organizational communication, and training on tourism issues (route design, marketing aimed at tourism)

Cardiovascular Risk Assessment Among Workers in the West Attica Landfill

    Get PDF
Introduction: Landfill workers are frequently exposed to a multitude of deleterious factors that can adversely affect their health. These include environmental contaminants such as dioxins, furans, biogas, and heavy metals, as well as occupational hazards like noise, vibration, and extreme temperatures. Aims and Scope: This pilot study, conducted at the Integrated Solid Waste Management Facility of Fili (OEDA Filis), aimed to measure environmental risk parameters and assess their effects on the cardiovascular health of workers. Method: Data collection involved questionnaires to record personal history, work stress and job positions, clinical examinations, and blood lipid tests. Cardiovascular risk (Heart Score) was evaluated based on standards set by the Hellenic Heart Association, which incorporated the Heart Score using Greek data. Results: The majority of employees at OEDA Filis were married men from lower socioeconomic backgrounds, with 77% reporting no chronic health issues and self-assessing their health status as good. Most subjects had body mass indices categorized as either normal or overweight. Environmental assessments identified elevated concentrations of PM10 and phenanthrene in the workplace, though levels of benzo(a)pyrene and naphthalene were within safety thresholds. About 21% of the workforce was identified as being at considerable risk for cardiovascular disease. No statistically significant relation was found between the Heart Score and job positions (p = 0.3), indicating that occupational role alone does not predict cardiovascular risk. However, elevated Heart Scores were more frequently observed among positions with greater exposure to environmental and occupational hazards. Conversely, office workers, who had reduced exposure to exhaust, noise, and air pollutants, exhibited lower Heart Scores. Univariate analysis showed a significant association between occupational stress and Heart Score (p = 0.037); workers under high stress had significantly lower levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) (p = 0.006). Additionally, a significant association existed between the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and lower Heart Score risk index values (p = 0.012), highlighting the protective impact of PPE in mitigating cardiovascular risk among exposed workers. Conclusion: This study enhances understanding of the associations between cardiovascular risk and exposure to environmental and occupational hazards at landfill sites. It underscores the critical need to establish a specialized observatory for continuous monitoring of occupational health and safety at these locations. Such an observatory should include regular health assessments for workers and systematic monitoring of environmental pollutants. Furthermore, the study advocates for initiatives aimed at improving the cardiovascular health of landfill workers, underscoring their necessity in this high-risk occupational environment

Ethnobotanical surveys of the indigenous populations of the Lékoumou department have shown that Pterocarpus soyauxii is widely used in traditional medicine. The aim of this study was to evaluate the antiproliferative properties of the aqueous extract of Pterocarpus soyauxii heartwood. The antiproliferative activity of the extract was assessed in vitro on two cancer cell lines, CRL11147 (melanoma cells) and MCF-7 (breast tumour cells) using the MTT assay. Aqueous extracts of Pterocarpus soyauxii heartwood at different concentrations showed antiproliferative activity against cancer cells, with inhibition values of over 50% at concentrations above 55 µg/ml. In contrast, extracts with concentrations between 55 µg/ml and 30 µg/ml did not induce any inhibition of proliferation in the two cell lines. Our study identified Pterocarpus soyauxii as a medicinal plant with antiproliferative properties
