The paper deals with the public speech of Ivane Javakhishvili on the „Present Moment“ (27-28 April 1919), which is reconstructed according to the publications of the newspaper Sakhartvelo. The possible mistakes of the Georgian politics were considered as the main threat to independence of Georgia by Ivane Javakhishvili, which is termed by him as “naivety of the Georgian politics.” These sorts of mistakes were determined by religion in the past, whereas during the existence of the Democratic Republic of Georgia it was conditioned by the civilizational and ideological considerations. In April, 1919, during discussion of the foreign policy situation of the Democratic Republic of Georgia, Ivane Javakhishvili came with the main propositions of the foreign policy priorities of Georgia: self-reliance, eradication of „naïve  approach“ in the foreign politics, defence of the historical-strategic borders of Georgi

The Process of Unification of Georgian Parties in European Parties: The Case of Georgian Dream

In today’s Georgia, one of the central importance in terms of the influence of political issues is given to the integration of Georgia into the European Union and the implementation of the steps to be taken towards it. Nevertheless, in terms of the political initiatives to be implemented, relatively less consideration is paid to the development of cooperation with the European parties by the political parties of Georgia. European parties, the constituent parts of the European Parliament, are ardently endeavoring to form the political culture of the Georgian parties, for the country to eventually join the EU. The significance of the aforementioned matter lies in the fact that the collaboration between Georgian political parties and European parties is seldom scrutinized by both the scientific community and society, thereby posing significant challenges to Georgia’s integration with the EU. Considering this factor, it is essential to clarify why Georgian political parties, and in this case, Georgian Dream, commenced to cooperate with European Parties and what factors can corrupt the existing relations between them. Consequently, the article will concentrate on the relations between The Party of European Socialists (PES) and the Georgian Dream in chronological order, spanning from the commencement of a lively dialogue to a profoundly deteriorated attitude, ultimately culminating in the Georgian Dream’s departure from PES

    Get PDF
Violence against women in politics attracts more and more attention from political actors and the scientific community. Along with the increase in the number of politically active women around the world, the frequency of violence against women in politics and the extent of its manifestation has increased. Although the representation of women at the decision-making levels, especially at the legislative level, has increased dramatically in recent years, at the same time, the cases of violence against women in politics have increased. As a rule, women have to pay a much higher price for political participation than male politicians.Violence against women in politics is a result of incomplete democratic consolidation.  Some researchers consider violence against women to be a kind of category which is related to weak state capacity and criminal justice systems. This phenomenon emphasizes not only the existence of violence against women in the country but also points to the shortcomings of the existing legislation and the syndrome of impunity in the country, to solve which the activation of both state and non-state actors and policy changes are essential.Today, violence against women in politics is common all over the world, although this problem is pervasive in developing countries. Violence against women in politics is a form of gender-based violence against women (GBVAW). VAWP is any act or threat of physical, sexual, or psychological violence that prevents women from exercising and realizing their political rights and a range of human rights, which poses a severe challenge to democracy, human rights, and gender equality (UN Women, 2021).The concept of violence against women in politics requires constant attention and study from researchers and scientists to give men and women equal opportunities to participate in politics without any fear or violence

During the Second World War (1939-1945), the Soviet Union used Georgia's natural and human resources as much as possible. Those conscripted into the Red Army from Georgia fought against fascism, although their struggle was aimed at protecting democracy and freedom in the world, they themselves were deprived of both. In this battle, Georgia made the greatest sacrifice, and a large part of this sacrifice was caused by the mistakes made by the Soviet civil and military leadership, and the heartless attitude towards human life.       The purpose of the research is to study how Georgia's participation in the defense of the Caucasus in the Second World War is presented in Soviet and post-Soviet school textbooks of Georgian and world history. The research is based on the content analysis of 2 textbooks published in the Soviet period and 10 textbooks published in the post-Soviet period. During the research, the following are taken into account: a) the volume of the presented material; b) evaluative side and basic provisions; c) Submitted photo or documentary material.          When comparing the Soviet and post-Soviet manuals, we can highlight several factors that distinguish or unite the mentioned works: a/ Different data on the people who were drafted into the war (600 thousand, 700 thousand...) and those who died (200 thousand, 300 thousand...); b/ Assessment - was it or not "Patriotic" war for Georgia; c/  Evaluation - the importance of victory in the battle for the Caucasus  ; d/  Contribution to the victory (party, government, party figures, military..
