Entrepreneurial Orientation (EO) In Malay Family Firm: Evidence from F-Pec Model

    No full text
Abstract This paper aims to propose a conceptual framework to study the relationship between Family Influence (F-PEC Scale) and Entrepreneurial Orientation. Apparently the framework suggests that Entrepreneurial Orientation is influenced from the Family Influence (F-PEC Scal

A Static Analysis for Automatic Detection of Atomicity Violations in Java Programs

    No full text
Abstract Multithreaded programs can have subtle errors that result from undesired interleavings of concurrent threads. A common technique programmers use to prevent these errors is to ensure that certain blocks of code are atomic. A block of code is atomic if every execution is equivalent to a serial execution in which no other thread's instructions are interleaved with the code. Atomic blocks of code are amenable to sequential reasoning and are therefore significantly simpler to analyze, verify, and maintain. This paper presents a system for automatically detecting atomicity violations in Java programs without requiring any specifications. Our system infers which blocks of code must be atomic and detects violations of atomicity of those blocks. The paper first describes a synchronization pattern in programs that is likely to indicate a violation of atomicity. The paper then presents a static analysis for detecting occurrences of this pattern. We tested our system on over half a million lines of popular open source programs, and categorized the resulting atomicity warnings. Our experience demonstrates that our system is effective. It successfully detects all the previously known atomicity errors in those programs as well as several previously unknown atomicity errors. Our system also detects badly written code whose atomicity depends on assumptions that might not hold in future versions of the code

Integrating Z Into Large Projects: Tools and Techniques

    No full text
Overview This paper addresses the problem of using Z to specify large software intensive systems. It is addressed particularly at safety, security or business-critical systems that require a rich language like Z to specify complex data and behaviour. Examples of such systems include air traffic control [1] and financial systems I have claimed On a purely practical level, this implies that we want Z to be part of the ordinary documents that are used every day on the project. That means, in practice, that it has to be integrated into Microsoft Word. So I first describe a tool for writing and checking Z within the Word environment. That is only the start, however: we also need a process for writing the specification and guidelines for its structure. I will describe some progress we have made towards these goals. A Z Tool for Microsoft Word The de facto standard for writing Z is the LaTeX mark up first introduced by Spivey and now incorporated into the Z standard. Industry, however, does not use LaTeX: it uses Microsoft Word. I have developed, with help from several colleagues, a package of Z tools for Word. This is in day to day use on a large project and is being made freely available at http://sourceforge.net/projects/zwordtools. The tool includes: 1. styles for laying out schemas and other Z paragraphs; 2. a Unicode font that includes all the Z symbols and is visually compatible with Times New Roman 3. automatic layout of Z paragraphs like the LaTeX equivalent, with italic text, formatted keywords and so on: for example BirthdayBook known : ℙ Name birthday : Name ⇸ Date known = dom birthda

Direct and indirect phenotypic selection on developmental trajectories in Manduca sexta

    No full text
Summary 1. Adult size and development time are the outcomes of growth and differentiation throughout the life of an individual organism -its developmental trajectory. Correlations among ages and sizes across different life stages may influence both direct and indirect components of selection on body size and age during development. 2. We used two field studies in experimental gardens in fall and summer to evaluate phenotypic selection on size and age across larval, pupal and adult stages in the tobacco hornworm, Manduca sexta, and how this may vary across seasons. 3. Rapid larval development was positively associated with survival to pupation and adulthood, in part because it allowed escape from larval parasitoids. Larval mortality owing to parasitoids was greater in the fall than in the summer. Egg production was positively correlated with adult mass, but not with development time. 4. Principal component analyses of size and age throughout development showed that adult size and development time were not negatively correlated, contrary to life-history expectations. As a result, selection favouring larger adult size (via female reproduction) and selection favouring rapid larval development (via juvenile survival) do not act in opposition in this system. 5. We discuss the physiological mechanisms that may underlie the independence of adult size and early larval development for holometabolous insects, and the implications for selection on body size and developmental trajectories

Assessment of exposure risk to lead and cadmium via fish consumption in the lacusrian village of Ganvié in Benin republic

The assessment of exposure risk related to lead and cadmium via fish consumption was conducted consecutively to the extent of the high level of pollution of the aquatic system of lacustrian village of Ganvié by recent studies. The evaluation was performed in adults and children by computing daily dose of exposure (DDE) by crossing the average levels of contamination of fish with lead and cadmium with the levels of food consumption. Therefore, thirty six (36) samples of three fish species were collected from Lake Nokoué in the surroundings of lacustrial village of Ganvié and assayed for lead and cadmium by atomic absorption spectrophotometer. The average concentration of cadmium and lead was higher than the allowed limits: 26.80 ± 0.57 ppm (against 0.4 ppm) for Pb and 1.79 ± 0.29 ppm (against 0.05 ppm) for Cd. The values of DDE obtained without systemic exposure were 111.22 and 7.42 mg / kg / day for Pb and Cd in child, respectively, against 2.28 and 34.22 mg / kg / day in adults compared to the limits permitted by WHO which are 3.6 mg / kg / day and 1 μg/kg/day, respectively. These high concentrations of Cd and Pb which imply potential risks especially for children much more exposed than adults appeal to environmental consciousness

PVMANAGER: A JAVA LIBRARY FOR REAL-TIME DATA PROCESSING

    No full text
Abstract Increasingly becoming the standard connection layer in Control System Studio [1], pvmanager [2] is a Java library that allows creating well behaved applications that process real time data, such as the one coming from a control system. It takes care of the caching, queuing, rate decoupling and throttling, connection sharing, data aggregation and all the other details needed to make an application robust. Its fluent API allows specifying the details for each pipeline declaratively in a compact way

Improving contactless technology by increase of transponder load modulation with serial capacitor

    No full text
Abstract-Proven chip technology based on International Standards can be used to implement person-related, secure contactless technology also into objects defining smaller antenna sizes than cards. Provided that sufficient power for chip operation is available, low transponder load modulation is the most limiting factor for the communication distance. A simple capacitance matching network allows to balance between power requirements and load modulation amplitude, so that compliance to the requirements of the Standard and to existing terminal infrastructure can be achieved
