    Abstract-This paper attempts to develop an online reputation index of Turkish universities through their online impact and effectiveness. Using 16 different web based parameters and employing normalization process of the results, we have ranked websites of Turkish universities in terms of their web presence. This index is first attempt to determine the tools of reputation of Turkish academic websites and would be a basis for further studies to examine the relation between reputation and the online effectiveness of the universities

    Effect of Ergonomic Hazards on Job Performance of Auditors in Nigeria

    Abstract This study examined ergonomic hazards which are associated with auditors' job and the effects on performance of auditors. Primary data were collected from auditors of "Big Four" auditing firms in Nigeria via administration of questionnaire from 825 respondents. Descriptive and inferential statistical tools were used to analyse the primary data. The results of this study identified several hazards were associated with an auditor's job. Top on the list of the hazards is headache, as opined by 56.9% of the respondents and 54.5% of the respondents reported inadequate sleep. It was revealed that neck pain (χ 2 = 12.894; p < 0.05), wrist pain (χ 2 = 9.138; p < 0.05) and inadequate sleep (χ 2 = 8.276; p < 0.05) were most prevailing hazards linked with auditors job. It is also revealed that an insignificant relationship exists between ergonomic hazards and performance (χ 2 = 4.763; p = 0.312)

    Abstract-Market-driven spectrum auctions offer an efficient way to improve spectrum utilization by transferring unused or underused spectrum from its primary license holder to spectrum-deficient secondary users. Such a spectrum market exhibits strong locality in two aspects: 1) that spectrum is a local resource and can only be traded to users within the license area, and 2) that holders can partition the entire license areas and sell any pieces in the market. We design a spectrum double auction that incorporates such locality in spectrum markets, while keeping the auction economically robust and computationally efficient. Our designs are tailored to cases with and without the knowledge of bid distributions. Complementary simulation studies show that spectrum utilization can be significantly improved when distribution information is available. Therefore, an auctioneer can start from one design without any a priori information, and then switch to the other alternative after accumulating sufficient distribution knowledge. With minor modifications, our designs are also effective for a profit-driven auctioneer aiming to maximize the auction revenue

    SPREADSHEETS, RESPONSE SURFACES, AND INTERVENTION DECISIONS IN WILDLIFE DAMAGE MANAGEMENT

    Abstract: An a priori approach to examining the economics of performing management activities to reduce agricultural and resource damage by wildlife is described. Computer spreadsheet procedures are used to derive response surfaces of potential net savings and benefit:cost indices for selected crop-or resource-protection activities. Tabular and graphical displays of these indices afford decision-making aids for wildlife-damage interventions. An example based on the use of an acute rodenticide, zinc phosphide (Zn 3 P 2 ), for vole (Microtus spp.) control in alfalfa (Medicago sativa) is described. Iterative calculations were derived for 1,260 possible combinations of 3 field-size, 6 crop-loss, 7 bait-effectiveness, and 10 application-fee variables. Average 1998 USDA alfalfa yield and price data (7.77 Mton•ha -1 and US$100.33•Mton ), served as the point of comparison. Effects were transitive, with greater net savings and benefit:cost ratios linked with larger field-size, crop-damage and bait-effectiveness variables, but decreased bait-application fees. Potential net savings were essentially negative when damage was <10%. Minimum and maximum benefit:cost ratios were 0.40 and 6.45; ratios ≥2.0 occurred typically when damage was ≥15%.     ABSTRACT Soil salinity severely affected establishment of seedlings at early growth stages of crop plants. Therefore, high germination rate and vigorous early growth under salty soils is preferred. In this study germination and seedling growth of a maize (Zea mays L.) cultivar was assessed using three replicates of 50 seeds in a factorial laid out in two separate experiments as Completely Randomized Design (CRD) testing combinations of three levels of salinity (0, 80, 160 and 240 mMol NaCl Lit) and four levels of kinetin (0, 10, 20 and 30 m mMol Lit) in the first experiment and the same salinity levels with three levels of abscisic acid (0, 2, 4 and 6 m Mol Lit) in the second experiment. Germination percentage was reduced by salinity compared to non-salinity condition. Salinity decreased germination percentage to about 15, 43 and 89% of controls. Kinetin increased germination percentage to 10 m gr Lit, but applying more decrease it. ABA decreased germination percentage to about 44% in 6 m Mol than control. On average at 80, 160 and 240 mMol NaCl salinity germination rate was about 80, 400 and 700 %, respectively of control. Kinetin and ABA decreased germination rate. When seeds were in 160 and 240 m M NaCl kinetin significantly improved germination. Priming with kinetin and ABA decreased radicle length and hypocotyl length relatively. Priming with kinetin could not improve radicle and hypocotyl length in all salinity levels. Dry weight of radicle and hypocotyls decreased significantly under salinity condition compared with non salinity condition. Priming with 10 m Mol Lit kinetin showed maximum radicle and hypocotyl length and higher amount decreased both traits. ABA decreased seedling fresh and dry weight to about 10 and 12% in 4 m Mol Lit than control. In general, Increasing of kinetin and ABA levels more than 10 and 2 m Mol Lit caused decrease in all traits under salinity condition

    Case Report Buttock Necrosis after Uterine Artery Embolization for Delayed Hysterectomy in Placenta Percreta

    Background. Morbidly adherent placenta (MAP) is increasing in incidence and is commonly associated with maternal hemorrhage and cesarean hysterectomy. Uterine artery embolization (UAE) may be utilized in the conservative management of placenta percreta to potentially reduce blood loss. The incidence of complications from UAE in the conservative management of placenta percreta is poorly described. To our knowledge, we present the first reported case of buttock necrosis in this setting. Case. A 39-year-old gravida nine para two with placenta percreta who underwent conservative management with UAE complicated by right buttock necrosis. Conclusion. While UAE may potentially decrease blood loss, it is not without risk. More studies must be performed in order to quantify those risks and determine the clinical utility of UAE

Due to the voluntary nature of cooperation, agreements must be beneficiary to all parties and be perceived to be equitable. Obligations in international agreements are typically differentiated between developing and developed countries. In particular in the climate debate, exemptions for developing countries are motivated by egalitarian arguments on per-capita emission levels. Besides this, possessory equity arguments to base targets on present or recent emission levels seem to play a vital role in several international agreements. This paper studies the impact of equity considerations on the stability of international agreements between heterogeneous countries. We show that allowing countries to finance abatement projects in developing countries which, due to equity-reasons, have no binding emission targets can reduce the number of cooperating countries and thereby be welfare-decreasing. Equity-concerns in industrialized countries regarding the gap between per-capita emission levels of industrialized and developing countries lead to an increased reduction in industrialized countries but do not qualitatively change the incentives to cooperate. Only if countries are inequality-averse with respect to potential differences between their abatement targets and those of other industrialized countries is the inclusion of developing countries generally profitable both in terms of participation rates and of emission reduction.     Sunsets, tall buildings, and the Earth's radius

    ABSTRACT It is shown how repeated observations of the sunset from various points up a tall building can be used to determine the Earth's radius. The same observations can also be used, at some latitudes, to deduce an approximate value for the amount of atmospheric refraction at the horizon. Eratosthenes appears to have been the first to have determined the Earth's radius by measuring the altitude of the sun at noon in Alexandria on a day when he knew it to be directly overhead in Syene (Aswan) to the south Over the years, a variety of elementary methods have been proposed for determining the Earth's radius The idea of the experiment is quite simple. One needs a tall building from which one can get an unobstructed view of the sunset over the ocean, at least after one has ascended a certain height up it. The experiment consists of going up the building and observing sunset repeatedly from a succession of floors, and then using the times of the sunsets and the heights of the floors above sea level to deduce the Earth's radius.
