SUPERVISION IN SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGY: THE DEVELOPMENTAL/ECOLOGICAL/PROBLEM-SOLVING MODEL
Effective supervision models guide the supervisory relationship and supervisory tasks leading to reflective and purposeful practice. The Developmental/Ecological/Problem-Solving (DEP) Model provides a contemporary framework for supervision specific to school psychology. Designed for the school psychology internship, the DEP Model is also applicable to all pre-service and advanced field-based training, as well as career-long continuing professional development. The Developmental domain initiates training at the functioning skill level of the supervisee and progresses toward independent competency. The Ecological domain addresses the multiple systemic contexts that influence school psychology practice and prepares the intern to intervene within both individual and systemic contexts. The Problem-Solving domain focuses on the application of data-based decision making and evidence-based interventions to the full range of school psychology activities. Factors predicting blood transfusion in different surgical procedures for degenerative spine disease
Abstract. -BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Spine surgery frequently needs allogeneic blood transfusions to compensate for great blood loss. Autologous blood donations often are indicated to reduce homologous transfusions. In last decades interbody spinal fusion has gained popularity, being frequently performed in many spine procedures. Nevertheless, there are few studies evaluating the risk factors of additional blood transfusions in the postoperative course of degenerative spine surgery and no one concerning patients who underwent interbody fusion. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In 15 consecutive months, in the same Department of Spine Surgery 40 different elective spine surgeries were performed, divided into four groups: laminectomy alone, laminectomy with an instrumented posterolateral fusion, laminectomy with an instrumented posterolateral and interbody fusion, extensive instrumented fusion. All patients surgery-related data were respectively recorded: patient age, gender, diagnosis, preoperative hemoglobin rate, autologous blood availability, number of spinal level decompressed and fused, duration of surgery, type of surgical procedure, duration of hospital stay. These data were statistically analysed to determine whether variables could determine higher risk of blood transfusion. RESULTS: In an univariate analysis of factors influencing the need of blood transfusion, significantly greater risk of blood transfusions was observed in the female, in case of low preoperative Hb rate, longer surgical times, multiple spinal level decompressed or fused and longer duration of hospital stay. Our linear multiple regression modeling showed that patients gender and increased number of levels decompressed and levels surgically fused were significant determinants of need of blood transfusion. CONCLUSIONS: The practical value of this work can be particularly appreciated by those who are used to consider blood predonation. According to our findings blood predonation should preferably be proposed to women supposed to undergo spine instrumented fusion or a more than three levels spine decompression

Microstructural Evolution and Mechanical Properties of Type 304 L Stainless Steel Processed in Semi-Solid State
Abstract The paper discusses the effect of semi-solid processing on the microstructural evolution and mechanical property of 304L stainless steel. For the study, steel specimens were part ially melted and cooled to room temperatures in different cooling mediu m. The effect of temperature, t ime and cooling mediu m on microstructural evolution was studied by using optical microscopy. It was found that melting begins with the nucleation of liquid phase at the triple junctions and grain boundaries followed by propagation of the liquid phase along grain boundaries. The mechanical behavior of the semi-solid processed material was compared with that of the conventionally processed material with regard to their tensile properties and hardness. The semi-solid processed material shows better ductility and reduced YS and UTS than the conventionally processed counterpart. The correlation of the tensile properties and evolved liquid content shows that the UTS of the material decreases, while the YS increases with liquid fraction. ABSTRACT This paper describes image evaluation techniques used to standardize camera system characterizations. Key areas of performance include resolution, noise, and sensitivity. This team has developed a set of analysis tools, in the form of image processing software used to evaluate camera calibration data, to aid an experimenter in measuring a set of camera performance metrics. These performance metrics identify capabilities and limitations of the camera system, while establishing a means for comparing camera systems. Analysis software is used to evaluate digital camera images recorded with charge-coupled device (CCD) cameras. Several types of intensified camera systems are used in the high-speed imaging field. Electro-optical components are used to provide precise shuttering or optical gain for a camera system. These components including microchannel plate or proximity focused diode image intensifiers, electro-static image tubes, or electron-bombarded CCDs affect system performance. It is important to quantify camera system performance in order to qualify a system as meeting experimental requirements. EFFECT OF CONTROLLED ATMOSPHERE STORAGE (CAS) ON ANTIOXIDANT ENZYMES AND DPPH-RADICAL SCAVENGING ACTIVITY OF MANGO (MANGIFERA INDICA L.) CV. ALPHONSO
ABSTRACT Alphonso mangoes (Mangifera indica L.) pre-treated with either N-propyl-N-[2-(2,4,6-trichlorophenoxy) ethyl] imidazole-1-carboxamide (prochloraz) or hot water (HW) were stored under controlled atmosphere (CA) consisting of 5% O 2 and 5% CO 2 for 45 days at 8ºC followed by ripening at ambient conditions. Pre-treatments had a pronounced effect on storage life as well as disease incidence. Untreated fruits stored in CA were completely rotten. Irrespective of pre-treatments fruits stored in air showed chilling injury (CI) symptoms during storage at 8ºC and intensity further increased during ripening. Prochloraz or HW pre-treatment followed by CA storage resulted in fruits absolutely free from morphological CI with fresh appearance, hard, green and ripened normally when shifted to ambient conditions (24-29º C, 60-70% RH). Effect of pre-treatments and CA storage on antioxidant enzymes viz. catalase (CAT) peroxidase (POX) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) was compared. The unripe air stored fruits (untreated, prochloraz treated and HW-treated) after 45 days of storage at 8º C showed significantly higher CAT and SOD activity and lower POX activity in comparison to that stored in CA (prochloraz and hot water treated fruits). Freshly harvested matured green fruits showed comparatively less CAT activity than pretreated and stored fruits. Unripe, prochloraz and HW-pretreated fruits of CA storage and freshly harvested fruits have shown similar SOD activity. After 45 days of CA storage at 8ºC, POX activity in prochloraz and HW-treated fruits was higher than that found in freshly harvested fruits. After ripening under ambient conditions, prochloraz and HW-treated fruits stored in both CA and air showed significantly higher antioxidant enzyme (CAT, POX and SOD) activities than corresponding untreated fruits. Total phenol content and 2, 2-Diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity of fruits decreased during CA storage and after ripening when compared to freshly harvested fruits. Decrease was also significant between unripe and ripened fruits of different treatments. Prochloraz or HW-treated fruits stored in CA had highest carotenoids content compared to fruits stored in air after they were ripened at ambient conditions. Case Report A Case of Transient Local Anesthetic Induced Bilateral Vocal Cord Palsy
We report a rare case of bilateral vocal cord palsy following total thyroidectomy with successful extubation within 12 hours. The patient is a 33-year-old lady who underwent uneventful total thyroidectomy for compressive symptoms. Thirty minutes after extubation, she developed stridor and the flexible laryngoscopy showed bilaterally adducted vocal cords. The patient, thus, was reintubated and after 12 hours she met the extubation parameters and so she was extubated successfully. The repeated flexible laryngoscopy showed normal vocal cords. A review of the literature revealed limited information on this transient condition
Comparison between artificial neural networks algorithms for the estimation of the flashover voltage on insulators
Abstract: -This work attempts to apply Artificial Neural Networks in order to estimate the critical flashover voltage on polluted insulators. First, an ANN was constructed in MATLAB and has been trained with several MATLAB training functions. Then, an ANN was constructed in FORTRAN using an adaptive algorithm, in which the parameters of momentum and learning rate changed during the learning procedure, in order to optimize the training process. In each case the Artificial Neural Network uses as input variables the following characteristics of the insulator: the diameter, the height, the creepage distance, the form factor and the equivalent salt deposit density and estimates the critical flashover voltage
