THE DESIGN OF POWER DC BUS SYSTEM TO INCREASE THE SOLAR EFFICIENCY BY USING DC-DC CONVERTER

    Get PDF
ABSTRACT Non conventional energy based on photovoltaic system with storage energy battery is necessary to load requirement for supply to electric grid. Due to use of dc-ac convertor, the efficiency does not improve. The power conditioning is done by a dc-dc converter and a dc-ac inverter stages to produce the desired ac source. This is also done even when the load is of dc type, such as typical portable electronic devices that require ac adaptors to be powered from the ac mains. The aim of this project is to propose a hybrid PV-battery-powered dc bus system, that eliminates the dc-ac conversion stage, resulting in lower cost and improved overall energy conversion efficiency. A high-gain hybrid boost fly back converter is introduced with higher voltage conversion ratio than conventional boost convertor topology

We aimed to evaluate the effects of intertrochanteric femoral fractures on mortality, morbidity, and cost of zoledronate treatment in elderly patients treated by osteosynthesis. Based on Evans classification, 114 patients with unstable intertrochanteric femoral fractures were treated with osteosynthesis. After the surgical treatment of intertrochanteric fractures, the treatment group (M/F, 24/32; mean age, 76.7 ± SD years) received zoledronate infusion, and the control group (M/F, 20/38; mean age, 80.2 ± SD years) received placebo. Postoperative control visits were performed at 6-week, 3-month, 6-month, and 12-month time points. Functional level of patients was evaluated by the modified Harris hip score and Merle d' Aubigné hip score. By 12 months, the mean HHS in treatment and control groups was 81.93 and 72.9, respectively. For time of death of the patients, mortality was found to be 57.1% (16/28) on the first 3 months and 92.9% (26/28) on the first six months. The mortality rate in the treatment and control groups was 14.3% (8/56) and 34.5% (20/58), respectively. The use of zoledronic acid after surgical treatment of intertrochanteric femoral fractures in osteoporotic elderly patients is a safe treatment modality which helps to reduce mortality, improves functional outcomes, and has less side effects with single dose use per year

Development of a software for computer-linguistic verification of socio-demographic profile of web-community member

Abstract This article considers the current important scientific and applied problem of socio-demographic characteristics validation of virtual community members by computer-linguistic analysis of webcommunity members' information track. A systematic analysis of the web-members information content and the research of the web-communication specificity of each socio-demographic characteristics value by virtual community content validation for further modeling socio-demographic profiles of web-members are realized. Mathematical models of basic virtual community member socio-demographic characteristics for creating a socio-demographic profile of virtual community member are generated. The method of registration and validation of virtual community member's personal data by checking the maximum amount of virtual community member's data for improving the quality of content and methods of virtual community management is developed. The software for socio-demographic characteristics verification of web-community member, "Socio-demographic profile verifier", is developed, by forming socio-demographic profile of virtual community member that is based on the system building information model of socio-demographic profile of virtual community member for the automation of the verification process of web-custom content

WU International Taxation Research Paper Series Can Tax Rate Increases Foster Investment under Entry and Exit Flexibility? -Insights from an Economic Experiment Can Tax Rate Increases Foster Investment under Entry and Exit Flexibility? Insights from an

ABSTRACT: It is well-known that taxes affect risky investment decisions. Analytical studies indicate that tax rate increases (decreases) can foster (hinder) investment if there is flexibility, in particular when an exit option is available. We design an experiment based on an analytical model with binomial random walk and entry and exit flexibility. Contrasting the underlying model, we find accelerated investment, which is often considered as an increased willingness to invest, on tax rate increases to be independent of the existence of an exit option. However, we observe this investor reaction only for a tax increase, not for a tax decrease. This behavior is driven possibly by tax salience and the mechanisms known from the theory of irreversible choice under uncertainty. Our empirical evidence suggests that the at-first-sight unexpected tax reform effects are more common than is predicted by the theoretical literature. Policy makers should therefore carefully consider the behavioral aspects when anticipating taxpayer reactions. JEL Classification: H25, H21, C9

Abstract The study was carried out in the years 2010-2011 in private plantations from Dragasani Vineyard on 'Carloganca' variety. From this study it was observed that some hubs of 'Carloganca' presents distinct characters distinct from other hubs in terms of fertility, productivity, quality and quantity yield, disease resistance, quality wine. This clone will be homologated, it is grafted and planted in the plot of verification to be introduced into culture

    Numerical prediction of thruster-thruster interaction

ABSTRACT Many vessels deploying offshore activities nowadays are dynamically positioned by multiple azimuth thrusters instead of anchors. The multiple propulsor set up, gives a considerable flexibility to work fast and accurate. Due to the fact that the thrusters are positioned relative close to one another their performance is influenced. Normally to quantify this influence and take into account in the DP control algorithm, elaborate experiments have to be performed. To optimize the results a robust numerical flow solver is developed to predict the interaction effects. The program is used to optimize the effort put into these experiments. The developed propeller interaction model is a first order potential based panel method, which uses zero order doublets and sources panel elements. This method is selected to prove the main objective of this research that; Although the slipstream of a thruster has a very turbulent character the interaction can be modeled without taking the viscosity into account as long as an accurate distorted flow field behind a propeller can be predicted. At the 2 nd thruster the distorted flow field due to the 1 st thruster is modeled by means of two wake field models; a linear potential wake model and an empirical turbulent jet model. Due to the intersection of wake and body panels at the 2 nd thruster, numerical instabilities occur at the collocation points. These instabilities are removed by applying a realistic vortex model instead of the analytic vortex model which has infinite velocities in the core. The second problem is to capture the divergent and subsiding character of a propeller wake field by means of a linear potential wake model. This problem is resolved by validating the region for which the results are still accurate. From the results it is concluded that the thruster interaction propeller model coupled to the turbulent jet wake field yield accurate thruster interaction results. For the linear potential wake field results are promising but adaptations are needed to improve the prediction of the divergent and subsiding character of the physical wake field
