THE PHYSIOLOGICAL CORRELATES OF BODY PIERCING BY A YOGA MASTER: CONTROL OF PAIN AND BLEEDING
A Yogi master was psychophysiologically monitored while he pierced his neck and tongue with skewers to demonstrate control of pain and bleeding. Measurements included respiration rate (RR), heart rate (HR), diaphragmatic and thoracic breathing, electrodermal activity (EDA) and electroencepholography (EEG) from Cz and Fz. The Yogi reported no pain during piercing and no bleeding was observed. In general he had elevated HR and low untesponsive EDA throughout the session. His respiration rate averaged 7 brpm during the slow breathing meditation prior to and following the piercing but elevated to approximately 25 breaths per minute during piercing. His EEG showed predominate alpha of 10Hz during meditation. Alpha, sensory motor rhythm (SMR), and beta elevated at Cz during piercing with no change in delta or theta. Alpha and beta elevated at Fz during piercing with no change in SMR, delta or theta. While he stayed in alpha during the piercing, there was a broader range of alpha activation ranging from 10 to 14 Hz. This demonstration suggests a finding of conscious self-regulation, as opposed to disassociation, for controlling attention and responsiveness to painful stimuli. It could be hypothesized that clients with chronic pain could be taught how to control pain using the mind/body in a similar manner
FIELD STUDY OF AN ENHANCEMENT EFFECT ON LETTUCE SEEDS: Working In Adverse Conditions
During the years 2000-2002, research on organic farms looked at the effect of a healer on lenuce seeds. The basic hypotheses were that the healer would enhance the seeds to produce greater yield and greater health. The first yearl found a significant result for the second hypmhesis, as measured by looking at the fungal damage. The second yea? found significant results on all the measures, greater yield, less fungal damage and less slug damage. However, doing field trials has many problems compared with doing laboratory research, weather being one of the major variables that cannot be controlled. For various reasons, in 2001 trials 6 and 7 were not planted om umil long after they had become pot-bound. The delay in plaming out was so great for trial 6 that the plants never grew properly, and trial 7 was harvested first as those plants grew to a point where they became big enough for sale. In 2002 the research rook place on another farm and was a disaster. For various reasons up to half of the lettuce plants died in the seedling trays, and the people working on the farm became "spooked." They considered that the reason for the loss of plants was due to the research trials upsetting the delicate balance of energy needed to keep the farm running smoothly. Therefore the research was terminated after only two trials were harvested. However, in both 2001 and 2002 significant results were still found. Trials 6 & 7 in 2001 both showed first place "hits" for gross weight of lettuces in the "enhanced" (HX) condition, which, when combined with trials 1 -5, give an average rank for gross weight of 1.92. The net weight was also significanc. When each harvest is ranked, by group, on the number of lettuces produced, the HX group has mean rank of 1.79, with t(11) = -2.75, and two-tailed p 0.019. The total yield was also significant for the HX group. The two trials in 2002 yielded nine experimental vs. comrol pairings. The nine "experiments" comparing net weight HX to another condition yield an average effect size (r) of 0.21 (sd = 0.31), which is statistically significantly greater than chance expectation. The six control experimems (NH v. controls) yield average effect size r = -0.02 (sd = .26), which is not significantly different from zero. These results suggest that a psychic healer can have a practical value for the commercial farmer. This is good news for organic farming where the lack of fungicide, pesticide and artificial fertilizer can result in a lower yield
THE MUSIC OF THE HEART: A PERSONAL JOURNEY
This is a story of a personal journey and the blessings and miracles that took place along the way. Look back over your own life and recall those often-forgotten events and heartful gifts that have lead you to become who you are. The story is also about our limits as human beings: the limits to awareness, and the limits to what we can accomplish. What has emerged is a scientific basis for expanding our concepts of what we can know and what we can accomplish. One fascinating concept is that the living matrix, the fabric of our bodies, is composed of a material that enables us to sense and analyze and respond to the world around us in extraordinary ways. An idea emerged that seemed so extraordinary at first that there was little hope that it could be validated. But Albert Einstein supported the idea of looking at ridiculous ideas because of his repeated experience that concepts that do not at first seem absurd do not really stand a chance. Patience acquired from a loving father sustained an interest in the remarkable concept that our sensory receptors actually split incoming information into two pathways. One is the well-known neurological system. The other is the “integrated microcircuit” composed of the semiconductor molecules forming the fabric of the body, the living matrix. Studies of a phenomenon known as blindsight seem to confirm that we are capable of taking in information and processing it even when the neurological pathways are not operating. It is suggested that we consider the living matrix system as the physical seat of the unconscious, and the source of intuition and insight
HEALING EXPERIMENTS ASSESSED WITH ELECTROPHOTONIC CAMERA
During a workshop demonstrating Electrophotonic Imaging based on the Gas Discharge Visualization technique, a series of experiments were conducted using Reconnective Healing, group intention focused on effecting the energy of a vial of water, and a novel use of a didgeridoo for sound therapy. The EPC/GDV techniques show the effects of the healing and group intention activities. In addition, the ambient energetic activity of the workshop room was monitored during various eras, using the new antenna device that has been added to the Electrophotonic Imaging/Gas Discharge Visualization camera system. Interesting variation in the ambient energy was observed among the various eras with different workshop activities
