SKIN RESISTANCE vs. BODY CONDUCTMTY: On the Background ofElectronic Measurement on Skin
Get PDFIn this paper, we discuss several critical problems of electronic measurements on the acupuncture system, such as the size, shape, location and stability of acu-points and acu-meridians; the violent fluctuation of the measurement data; the holographic phenomena and the statistical selfsimilarity of measurement data; the transmission of signal along meridians and its speed; the parallel distributions between higher-conductivity points and higher sound intensity points and the mathematical background of log-normal distribution of measurement data. A conclusion, which comes from the contradictions between the results of these experiments and the existing knowledge in modern anatomy, histology, neurology and biochemistty, is that there is an invisible dissipative structure of electromagnetic fields which are mainly composed of an interference pattern of standing waves in the resonance cavity of the human body under the condition of permanent support of energy in an open system. To some extent, the invisible structure corresponds to the mysterious acupuncture system and is closely related to many energetic medicines. The conclusion and recognltlon of the existence of the invisible dissipative structure of the electromagnetic field inside a body offers not only a new understanding of the background of acupuncture and many orher branches of holistic medicine, but also a scientific and quantitative way to evaluate the degree of coherence, namely harmony, of a body-mind system
SUPERPOWERS AND THE STUBBORN ILLUSION OF SEPARATION
Get PDFSince the dawn of humanity, people have investigated the relationship between intention and the physical world through practices like prayer and meditation. Starting a half-century ago, science began to systematically explore these relationships in the laboratory. After briefly reviewing the history of this scientific exploration, I will discuss two recent experiments. Both were conducted to explore the nature of the mind's eye and its interaction with physical systems distant in space or time. In one, an eyetracking system was used to test whether seers could actually "see" future events. In another, meditators and non-meditators were asked to use their mind's eye to "see" a beam of photons in a light-tight optical apparatus. Both experiments provided intriguing glimpses of the role of the human mind in weaving the fabric of reality. I will also discuss an experiment that examined the effect of highly focused intention applied toward food by measuring the food’s influence on people who consumed it. Finally, I will touch on the predicatable stages of acceptance of new ideas
TOWARD AN EVIDENCE-BASED SPIRITUALITY: SOME GLIMPSES OF AN EVOLVING VISION
Get PDFIn my recent book The End of Materialism: How Evidence of the Paranormal is Bringing Science and Spirit Together, I have argued that great psychological damage is done by a scientistic mindset of Dismissive Materialism, which automatically condemns all spirituality as stupid and neurotic, and that consideration of actual scientific evidence shows that it is reasonable to be both scientific and spiritual in one’s orientation to life. My focus now is on how we can begin to develop an evidence-based (or at least evidence-enriched) spirituality for the twenty-first century. Such a spirituality should be practically effective in enriching people’s lives as well as consistent with current and evolving scientific knowledge. After a brief review of the scientific evidence showing that humans sometimes possess the kinds of qualities we would expect in a spiritual being, I then discuss the nature of knowledge acquisition and refinement, showing its compatibility with essential science. Next, I sketch eight examples of possible research directions for building knowledge for an evidence-based spirituality, and briefly discuss irrational levels of resistance to such an enterprise
ELECTROPHYSIOLOGICAL PROPERTIES OF HUMAN OCULAR EXTRAMISSION
Get PDFThe author presents evidence supporting the hypothesis that human ocular extramission, the emission of brain waves through the eye, can be detected using qEEG equipment or two-channel neurofeedback equipment. A high-impedance electrode housed inside electromagnetically insulated goggles was employed that makes no physical contact with the body and is about two centimeters in front of the pupil. Readings were taken with two-channel biofeedback equipment and with a qEEG The waveform of ocular extramission is physiologically active compared to the reading from a control electrode suspended in space in front of the goggles: it is similar to the waveform of frontal leads in overall structure and in the appearance of eye blink and muscle artifact in the tracing, combined with an absence of heart artifact. The waveform for a control electrode showed only consistent high-frequency, low amplitude background and heart beat artifact. It may be possible to study a variety of disease states by recording ocular extramission, using a high-impedance noncontact electrode
