The Relationship Between the State and Muslim Civil Society in Zakat Management in Indonesia
This article aims to discuss the relationship between the state and Muslim civil society in managing zakat in Indonesia. The practice of zakat management in Indonesia has experienced ups and downs in the context of relations between the state and Muslim civil society. However, this kind of relationship does not hinder efforts to manage zakat optimally. Zakat management through zakat institutions has great benefits when compared to non-institutionalized zakat management. This article attempts to answer the question of what is the relationship between the state and Muslim civil society in managing zakat in Indonesia? Why is institutionalizing zakat important in efforts to manage zakat in Indonesia? This article is a type of literature research with a ma\u27na cum maghza approach which has found, first, that the management of zakat is in the domain of Muslim civil society in its relations with the state, especially after Indonesia\u27s independence. The relationship between the National Amil Zakat Agency (BAZNAS) which is affiliated with the state and the National Amil Zakat Institute (LAZNAS) which is affiliated with Muslim civil society is synergistic in efforts to manage zakat optimally. However, after the enactment of Law Number 23 of 2011 concerning Zakat Management, the state attempted to manage zakat nationally through the existence of BAZNAS. Secondly, zakat management in a zakat institution is important in an effort to optimize professional zakat management as indicated in Surah at-Taubah verse 60 which is represented through the existence of BAZNAS and LAZNA
Evaluation of the Importance of English as a Foreign Language in Elementary Schools in Indonesia
Currently, the language of instruction in the field of international relations is English. Given the growing number of schools that integrate English in their curricula, this has a strong propensity to rise. The importance of English today is such that it is required in many different spheres of life. According to Panggabean (2015), Indonesia\u27s use of English appears to be highly significant at first glance because it is taught in schools from pre-kindergarten to graduate level and because many universities demand the TOEFL for admission and graduation. However, rather than being used as a tool for communication, English is still seen as a branch of knowledge distinct from other topics and as a foreign tongue. In this context, English in Indonesia refers to English as a Foreign Language (EFL), rather than English as a Second Language (ESL). This demonstrates that English is not prioritized in Indonesia. English is only taught in schools in Indonesia; it is not utilized frequently. Because of this, English is typically taught as a foreign language in Indonesia. In addition to these issues, Indonesian language politics have given English a worsening position with the removal of English classes from the elementary school curriculum in 2013

The role of self-regulated learning on foreign vocabulary learning: a multi-case study
In recent years, a considerable body of empirical research has acknowledged the role of self-regulated learning (henceforth SRL) in the domain of English as a foreign language (EFL). However, the study investigating the role and mechanism of SRL in vocabulary learning is still in scarcity particularly in Indonesian contexts. To address this noticeable gap, this multi-case study aims to explore the role of SRL on vocabulary learning strategies use and mechanism from the experience of undergraduate EFL learners. After signing the informed of consent form sheets, two undergraduate students from two different countries (Indonesia and Egypt) voluntarily participate in this study. By employing a series of semi-structured interviews and conducting narrative thematic analysis (Braun & Clarke, 2006), the findings showcase that both participants employ a myriad of vocabulary learning strategies such as rehearsal, elaboration, and social strategy. Additionally, the empirical evidence indicates that they have higher level of motivation and persistence to maintain vocabulary-learning activity. The findings suggest the important practical implications for teachers, learners, and institution. This article also discusses limitations and recommendations
YOUTH AGAINST RELIGIOUS RADICALISM: AN INTRARELIGIOUS APPROACH IN KOMUNITAS SANTRI BATANG IN KABUPATEN BATANG, JAWA TENGAH
Youth is a part of the structure of society that is vulnerable to being exposed to radicalism. According to a report from the Setara Institute 2011-2012, cases of intolerance that occur in Indonesia are often committed by youth, especially high school age teenagers. In 2017, there has been a spread of religious radicalism doctrine in Batang carried out by several religious leaders towards high school youth age. In response to that, a group of youths in Batang formed a youth community aimed to counteract the spread of radicalism in Batang, Komunitas Santri Batang (KSB). This study wants to see the extent to which the role of youth represented by the KSB against religious radicalism by campaigning for the idea of \u27religious moderation\u27. This study formulates two problems related to the role of youth in campaigning for religious moderation, (1) What is the strategy of the KSB in promoting religious moderation idea? (2) how effective are the programs organized by the KSB related to the prevention of radicalism among youth groups? To answer these questions, the researcher will interview several members of the KSB and participants of the KSB programs. The results of this study indicate that there is synergy between the KSB youth and several agencies in cultivating moderation and diversity dialogue among the community. This can be seen through the KSB community strategy in countering religious radicalism using an inclusive approach and social engagement dialogue. Also, KSB pays attention to strengthening intra-religious relations by involving various youths from different religious mass organization backgrounds in several activities. This strategy is considered effective to counter religious radicalism which often attacks young people
