    Uncovering EFL students

    Presently, writing research articles causes anxiety for EFL students because they have to modify their writing to fit the English academic writing style, so academic writing is the most difficult skill to master because it requires an intricate process. Therefore, this study aims to uncover the frequent difficulties of academic writing and the coping strategies faced by EFL students. This study used a mixed method. Fifty-five participants from the English Department at a private university in Malang, Indonesia, filled out the questionnaire, and five participants were interviewed. The quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, and the qualitative data were analyzed thematically. The results showed that students experienced frequent difficulties, namely structure, developing ideas, vocabulary, and grammar, and the most frequent difficulty was grammar. To overcome challenges in grammar aspects, there were four manual coping strategies that they applied such as reading more articles, looking carefully at the function of conjunction, learning more about spelling, capitalization, and punctuation, and editing their work, and three automatic coping strategies that they used, namely using Grammarly, using an online English monolingual dictionary, and using Microsoft Word. The implications are to assist students in identifying and overcoming their frequent difficulties when writing academically

    Land Reform Policy in Determining Abandoned Land for Halal Tourism Destination Management Based on Fiqh Siyasah

    The government has established a policy of utilizing abandoned land to develop halal tourism. However, the critical question is whether this policy, based on siyasah fiqh, impacts Indonesia\u27s economic development. The research analyzed land reform policies, which determine abandoned land for managing halal tourism destinations based on Fiqh siyasah. This study employed normative legal studies and secondary data. The research indicated that the use of abandoned land for halal tourism development is not grounded in Islamic jurisprudence, and it potentially violates the provisions of Article 27 paragraph (2) and Article 28D paragraph (1) of the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia, leading to violations of human rights

    Increasing Student Activity and Learning Outcomes Using the BERANI Model in Elementary School

    The problem in this research is the low activity and learning outcomes of students in PPKn content. This research aims to determine the activities of educators, as well as increasing the activities and learning outcomes of students. This research uses a qualitative approach with the type of Classroom Action Research (PTK) which was carried out in 4 meetings in class IV of SDN Mawar 2 Banjarmasin in the even semester of the 2023/2024 academic year. The research instrument uses observation sheets and evaluation tests for student learning outcomes. Data analysis in this research uses descriptive analysis techniques and is explained using tables, graphs and interpretation with percentages. Based on the findings of this research, educator activity increased at each meeting until it reached a score of 28 at meeting 4 which met the "Very Good" criteria. At each meeting, student activity increased until it reached 96% with the criteria "Very Active" at meeting 4. And student learning outcomes increased at each meeting until it reached 100%. Based on the research results, it was concluded that the Problem Based Learning, Group Investigation, and Picture and Picture models can improve students\u27 activities and learning outcomes

    Implementation and problems of Applying the Merdeka Curriculum in Arabic Language

    The curriculum serves as the foundation of education in Indonesia, continually evolving to meet the changing needs of students. The Merdeka Curriculum emerges as a solution to meet these needs. This research aims to identify the problems that arise in the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum in Arabic language learning and to provide solutions that can enhance the effectiveness of its implementation. This study uses a literature review method to analyze relevant literature in the context of implementing the Merdeka Curriculum in Arabic language learning in Indonesia. Data were obtained from various literature sources, including scientific journals, articles, and research reports. The results show that the Merdeka Curriculum in Arabic language education in Indonesia faces problems due to limited resources, teacher skills, and curriculum adjustments, which can be addressed by improving facilities, enhancing teacher training, integrating technology and active learning, and increasing community involvement

    Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengevaluasi pencapaian hasil belajar menggunakan metode pembelajaran Word Square yang didukung oleh media Educard literasi moderasi beragama. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah pre-eksperimental dengan desain one group pretest-posttest. Sampel penelitian terdiri dari dua kelompok, yaitu kelompok eksperimen yang diajarkan dengan menggunakan model pembelajaran Word Square berbantu media Educard, dan kelompok kontrol yang diajarkan dengan metode konvensional. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah tes hasil belajar literasi moderasi beragama. Data dianalisis menggunakan uji Wilcoxon. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat peningkatan yang signifikan dalam hasil belajar literasi moderasi beragama pada kelompok eksperimen yang mendapat perlakuan dibandingkan dengan kelompok kontrol. Dengan demikian, penggunaan model pembelajaran Word Square dengan dukungan media Educard telah terbukti efektif dalam meningkatkan pencapaian hasil belajar literasi moderasi beragama pada siswa Madrasah Ibtidaiyah. Penelitian ini memiliki implikasi praktis dalam pengembangan metode pembelajaran yang berfokus pada penguatan literasi moderasi beragama untuk menghasilkan generasi yang lebih berkualitas dalam menjalani kehidupan beragama yang harmonis

    Argument-driven inquiry learning model to improve students\u27 argumentation skills in science learning: systematic literature review

    This research aims to identify and describe the Argument-Driven Inquiry (ADI) learning model to improve students\u27 argumentation skills in science learning. The method used in this research is the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method. From the search strategy results, 75 articles were found from 2017 to 2023, then selected gradually and systematically into 20 articles relevant to the topic of the ADI model in science learning. The analysis of journal article reviews based on SLR proves that the ADI learning model can be implemented using various learning media and significantly influences students\u27 argumentation abilities in science learning. Apart from that, this argumentation ability also provides improvement for students who have different academic abilities. The ADI model can also improve other skills, such as understanding concepts, critical thinking, and learning outcomes

    Application of the POE learning model assisted with the instagram application in improving critical thinking skills

    This study aims to analyze the improvement of critical thinking skills of grade X students which is applied using the POE (Predict, Observe, Explain) learning model assisted by the Instagram application on environmental change material. The research was carried out at SMAN 1 Susukan using an experimental method with a research design in the form of a pretest-posttest control group design. Sampling using a simple random sampling technique with a sample size of 64 students. The data collection technique was in the form of a reasoned multiple-choice test with a total of 30 questions used to analyze students\u27 critical thinking skills. The data analysis technique consisted of the N-Gain test and statistical tests in the form of normality test, homogeneity test, and hypothesis testing. The results showed that the results of the N-Gain in the experimental class and control class were included in the medium category with values of 0.57 and 0.43. The highest N-Gain value in the experimental class and control class is found in the KBK 2 indicator (analysis) of 0.68 and 0.42 The lowest N-Gain value is found in the KBK 4 indicator (inference) of 0.41 and 0.33.     The management of English as medium of instruction (EMI) policy at an Indonesian technological institution

    Due to its internationalization agenda, higher education institutions (HEI) in Indonesia adopted English as medium of instruction (EMI) programs despite the absence of a national policy document to regulate EMI. Studies on EMI policy in HEI focused on the effect policy could have on the dominant group and gave less highlight on EMI policy implementation management. This case study examined the management of EMI as language policy at the meso-(institutional) and micro-(classroom) levels. The data sources include the institutional policy document related to the EMI program, and interviews with seven EMI officers and seven EMI teachers at a Technological Institute in Indonesia. Using Spolsky\u27s language management framework for the "sensitizing concept," the result of the thematic analysis of the data shows three major categories of EMI policy management: EMI classroom management mechanism, language-related mechanism, and incentivization mechanism. The EMI teachers practice EMI differently in the classroom. Three teachers used English only, while four teachers used multilingualism for content comprehension.     The Tradition of tahlilan in Islam and consolation worship in Protestant Christianity serve as both social and spiritual rites to pray for the deceased and provide comfort to the bereaved family. This study aims to examine the syncretism of Javanese death rituals contained in tahlilan and consolation worship from the perspectives of Islam and Protestant Christianity within the selametan tradition. The research employs a qualitative approach, utilizing primary data sources and analyzing them through Arnold Van Gennep\u27s anthropological theory, the rites of passage. The study\u27s findings indicate that there is syncretism between the tahlilan ritual in Islam and the worship service of consolation in Protestant Christianity within the selametan tradition. Although there are theological differences, both rituals emphasize social and humanitarian aspects, offering empathy and solidarity to the bereaved family. Tahlilan reflects the Islamic belief in the importance of prayer for the soul of the deceased, while the worship service of consolation provides spiritual support and assurance of resurrection in Christianity. This syncretism demonstrates the openness of religious rituals to adapt, creating interfaith harmony and combining religious practices with the local Javanese culture
