Rethinking Vasectomy Policy: MUI’s Fatwas, Ethics, and Economic Coercion in West Java a Maqasid Syari’ah Analysis
Economic hardship remains an unresolved issue in Indonesia. Data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS) shows that 8.57% of the population still earns below IDR 609,160 per month, meaning approximately 24 million people live below the poverty line. The Governor of West Java plans to implement a policy requiring vasectomy as a condition for receiving social assistance, which has sparked controversy in society. This plan indirectly places poor families in a position where they feel compelled to undergo the procedure. They face hidden pressures that limit their freedom of choice, creating ethical tensions between religion, policy implementation, and basic livelihood needs. The study examined the responses of West Java society to objectively evaluate and engage in a comprehensive dialogue about the Governor’s policy plan, which includes vasectomy as a requirement for social assistance, through the lens of maqasid al-syari\u27ah (the objectives of Islamic law). Using empirical legal research with a mixed-methods approach, the study combined quantitative and qualitative data. Findings reveal that over 60% of respondents underwent vasectomy due to economic incentives or policy pressure rather than personal conviction. Qualitative data also indicate that although the fatwa is understood as a normative reference, in practice, people prioritize social and economic needs. The particular analysis confirms that the fatwa cannot be applied rigidly without considering the structural pressures and ethical dilemmas faced by the community. Through the framework of maqasid al-syari\u27ah, focusing on daruriyyat (essential needs), particularly hifz al-nafs (preservation of life), hifz al-nasl (preservation of lineage), and hifz al-mal (preservation of wealth), a reinterpretation of the fatwa becomes an ethical imperative. Then, it ensures Islamic law remains contextual, just, and responsive to contemporary realities, especially when religious authority and state regulations intersect in governing the rights of vulnerable groups
TAREKAT DAN NASIONALISME: Kiprah Kebangsaan Jam‘iyyah Ahlith Thariqah Al-Mu
Sufism and nationalism are often perceived as opposing forces, with Sufism emphasizing spiritualism and nationalism focusing on materialism. However, in Indonesia, Sufism and its infrastructure have played a significant role, from the struggle for nationalism and the civil movement against colonialism to maintaining national unity after independence. Therefore, this article aims to examine the historicity of Sufism, particularly the role of tariqah organizations in shaping and sustaining nationalism in Indonesia. The article employs a qualitative study with a literature review approach. Data were sourced from the official websites of Jam\u27iyyah Ahlith Thariqah Al-Mu\u27tabarah An-Nahdliyyah (JATMAN) and Jam\u27iyyah Ahli Thoriqoh Mu\u27tabaroh Indonesia (JATMI), with articles, documents, and manuscripts selected based on their relevance and validity to the study\u27s focus. The data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman process, which involves data reduction, data display, and conclusion. Data analysis shows that in the phase before independence, Indonesian tariqah adherents were actively involved in promoting nationalism and the anti-colonialism movement in Indonesia. In parallel, during the phase following independence, nationalism was carried out in a more organized manner through two tariqah organizations, namely Jam\u27iyyah Ahlith Thariqah Al-Mu\u27tabarah An-Nahdliyyah (JATMAN) and Jam\u27iyyah Ahli Thoriqoh Mu\u27tabaroh Indonesia (JATMI). The nationalist role of these two tariqah organizations can be seen in the strengthening of religious moderation, character education, the internalization of spirituality in politics and leadership as support for the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) and the Pancasila ideology.Tarekat and nationalism may be seen as different concepts, with tarekat oriented towards the spiritual world and nationalism oriented towards the material world. However, in various parts of the world, including Indonesia, Sufis and Tariqahs have played an important role in the struggle for nationalism and civil movements against colonialism. This contribution has been ongoing since before Indonesia\u27s independence. History has shown that tariqah leaders were able to mobilize communities to fight colonialism. Their work also continued after independence in an effort to foster Indonesian nationalism. This article explores the role of tarekat in the context of nationalism in Indonesia. It looks at the dynamics of two tarekat organizations: Jam\u27iyyah Ahlith Thariqah Al-Mu\u27tabarah An-Nahdliyyah (JATMAN) and Jam\u27iyyah Ahli Thoriqoh Mu\u27tabaroh Indonesia (JATMI). It is said that despite the conflict involving JATMAN and JATMI, they still act as guardians of the nation through political and societal means
Ideology without Emblems: The Quiet Metamorphosis of Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia through Grassroots Da‘wah
Although Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia (HTI) was officially banned by the Indonesian government in 2017, its movement and ideological influence continue at the grassroots level in a more adaptive form. This phenomenon is clearly visible in various activities among urban youth communities in Makassar. Therefore, this article aims to explore the movement to spread and strengthen the ideological basis of Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia after it was banned, through grassroots da’wah among youth communities in Makassar. This study employs a qualitative method with an ethnographic approach. The study focuses on the Genk Pemuda Surga (GPS) and Makassar Bina Taqwa (MBT) communities. Data collection was conducted through participant observation, in-depth interviews, document analysis, and observation of digital activities. Data collection was carried out from January to June 2025. The data were analyzed thematically through transcription, coding, and pattern identification to reveal the processes of ideology internalization and the da’wah strategies used by the two communities. This study found that even though Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia no longer maintains a formal or symbolic presence as an organization, the dissemination of its ideology has metamorphosed and continues to operate through non-formal but structured forms of da’wah. In this context, the Genk Pemuda Surga (GPS) and Makassar Bina Taqwa (MBT) communities use informal religious spaces, such as youth study circles, weekly gatherings, community-based activities, and digital platforms, to spread an exclusive Islamic narrative that often rejects Indonesia’s democratic political system. These findings indicate that banning organizations does not necessarily eliminate ideologies, but instead encourages the transformation of da’wah into a more fluid, relational, and cultural form

This research uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. The subjects in this research are two female teachers who teach Islamic Education and Character subjects at SLB Negeri 2 Banjarmasin and SLB Negeri 3 Banjarmasin and the students are deaf children class XII, the object in this research is equality of information on women\u27s fiqh for student with special needs in Banjarmasin. The results of the research show that information on women\u27s fiqh about menstruation and obligatory bathing must be conveyed by teachers to deaf student in Islamic Education and Character subjects learning using sign language accompanied by oral narrative. The teacher also writes material about menstruation and obligatory bathing on the blackboard and uses video media to teach obligatory bathing procedures. There are several factors that influence the equality of women\u27s fiqh information for children with special needs who are deaf, namely, first, the teacher or educator factor, there are teachers who do not master sign language so that they are constrained in conveying information, second, factors within the deaf child, namely the inability to receive auditory stimulation, language poverty, emotional instability and limited intelligence, and environmental factors, namely the family environment such as social support, understanding, and good interaction within the family
The Progressivity of the Qris Payment System in the Community: Perkembangan Sistem Pembayaran Qris di Masyarakat
The COVID-19 pandemic is a social change where people are forced to adapt, one of which is in the payment system. Bank Indonesia has established one of the digital payment systems, namely QRIS (Quick Response Code Indonesia Standard), to facilitate transaction payments easily, quickly, and securely. This study aims to measure the extent of the use of QRIS payments in the community. This research method uses qualitative research with data collection through a literature review associated with Talcott Parsons\u27 theory. The results of this study show that the role of using the QRIS payment system among the public has shortcomings in terms of network connection and age factors. Among MSMEs, the QRIS payment system continues to increase due to the ease of transacting using one QR code. Meanwhile, in the current generation (generation Y, Z, and Alpha), the QRIS payment system is not only to support needs but has become a daily lifestyle. The QRIS payment system aligns with Talcott Parsons\u27 theory of AGIL (adaptation, goal attainment, integration, and latency)
Gender Perception of Elementary School Students
Gender is one of the issues that is often debated. Everyone certainly has different views regarding gender, especially among elementary school students. This article was written with the aim of describing the level of gender perception of elementary school students. Understanding of gender must be given as early as possible to avoid gender inequality. This study was conducted using a survey method conducted in two elementary schools in Purbalingga City, Central Java. The population of this study was 125 students. The sample used was a 100% saturated sample of the population. The results of the study showed a high level of gender perception of respondents at 67.2%. This means that respondents do not fully understand that men and women have the right and freedom to carry out activities according to their needs regardless of differences or social constructions in society. So, the higher the level of gender perception of respondents, the more they understand that there is no difference in the roles of men and women. Thus, more efforts are needed to improve understanding of gender equality
Implementation Strategy for Project Based Learning Based on Islamic Values in Early Childhood Education
This study aims to explain the strategy for implementing the project-based learning model (PjBL) in early childhood education (ECE) in the context which is oriented towards Islamic values. PjBL allows children to actively participate through challenging projects and close to everyday life, thus encouraging critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity skills from an early age. At the same time, PjBL can be a vehicle for instilling manners, morals, social responsibility, and gratitude for Allah\u27s creation through authentic and meaningful learning experiences. This study uses a literature study method by examining articles, scientific journals, and documents related to the implementation of PjBL in ECE. The results of the study show that PjBL can be effectively implemented through targeted project planning, strengthening the role of teachers as facilitators as well as role models, and active involvement of children at each stage of the project (planning, implementation, reflection, and follow-up). These findings are expected to provide insight for ECE educators to improve the quality of active, holistic, and worship-worthy learning, so that children grow up to be creative people with faith and noble character
