    Exploring extensive reading implementation in higher education: A TPACK-based analysis

    Considering multiple analyses on the effectiveness of extensive reading (ER) in higher education, this study addresses the lack of empirical evidence regarding the implementation of ER in higher education, particularly in an Indonesian university. This study explored the importance of understanding how the integration of technological pedagogical and content knowledge (TPACK) in ER practices in a higher education context. Through a qualitative case study involving one lecturer from a state university in East Java, Indonesia, the data were obtained through interviews and classroom observations to facilitate triangulation and ensure its credibility, and then analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings demonstrated that ER was carried out at the university, aligning with the ER principles set forth by Day and Bamford (2002) and Hedgcock and Ferris (2009). Moreover, from the TPACK framework, technology mainly served as a resource, management system, and content delivery tool, facilitating smoother ER practices. The strategic combination of materials and teaching methods also supported ER activities, enabling students to follow instructions and meet course objectives efficiently. Thus, this research offered valuable insights for universities to implement ER courses, providing evidence-based practices for lecturers to optimize teaching methods, tools, and resources on ER practices in higher education settings

    Investigating learner autonomy-supportive features in an EFL textbook and perceptions of teachers and students on the textbook role in fostering learner autonomy

    Textbooks play a crucial role in EFL learning as a bridge between curriculum objectives and classroom practices. However, a growing body of research indicates that many EFL textbooks remain insufficient in facilitating the learning process, particularly in fostering learner autonomy (LA). This qualitative case study aimed to investigate what LA-supportive features are represented in the instructional content of the textbook When English Rings A Bell (WERAB) and explored teachers\u27 and students’ perspectives on the textbook role in promoting LA. The study involved two English teachers and two Grade VII students from a public junior high school in Indonesia. Data were collected through document analysis and semi-structured interviews, and analyzed using content analysis and cyclical coding. The results indicate that textbook WERAB instructions predominantly aligned with lower levels of LA, namely awareness and involvement, while rarely fostering higher-order autonomy such as creation or transcendence. Moreover, teachers and students perceived the textbook instructions as monotonous, lacking scaffolding, overly directive, and offering limited multimodal texts. Students’ language barriers also led teachers to overuse L1, reinforcing their reliance on translation. This study underscores the need for improved instructional design that incorporates autonomy-supportive principles and stronger pedagogical frameworks for more effective future classroom practices

    Portrait of Regional Regulations for Public Order and Tranquility in a Tolerant and Inclusive Society in West Sumatra

    The study addressed the gap in understanding how local wisdom and religious moderation are integrated into regional regulations in West Sumatra, a region with rich customary and religious traditions but ranked low on the national tolerance index. Despite having a strong philosophical foundation in Adat Basandi Syara’, Syara’ Basandi Kitabullah, current legal instruments may not adequately reflect these values to foster a tolerant and inclusive society. The study aimed to examine the portrait of regional regulations on public order and public tranquility in West Sumatra from 2009 to 2023, to realize a tolerant and inclusive society. The method used an empirical legal research with a socio-legal approach drawn from primary data in West Sumatra. The findings showed that the Regional Regulations (Perda) in West Sumatra have not yet embodied the principles of public order and social tranquility based on tolerance and inclusivity. Of the 634 Perdas analyzed from 2009 to 2023, only 2.2% addressed issues related to public order. Moreover, they narrowly focused on nuisance permits, alcoholic beverage control, and public morality. Therefore, this indicated a significant gap in incorporating local wisdom and religious values rooted in the Minangkabau philosophy of Adat Basandi Syara\u27, Syara\u27 Basandi Kitabullah, into regulatory frameworks that promote harmony in a pluralistic society

    Inheritance Law Politics: The Implementation in Muslim-Nonmuslim Families in Southern Thailand

    The applicable law in a country is determined by the politics, including Muslim-non-Muslim inheritance law applicable in the Southern Thailand region, which is a Muslim-majority region in a Buddhist-majority country. The article aimed to describe the influence of politics in determining the implementation of Muslim-non-Muslim inheritance law in Thailand. The article was the result of socio-legal research with a legal political approach. Primary data sources were obtained from interviews with civil courts, Ulama at the Islamic Religious Council, parties involved in legal assistance in court, and Muslim-non-Muslim families who carry out inheritance law division. Meanwhile, secondary data were obtained from relevant documents. The study showed that the politics in Thailand have implications for the flexibility of inheritance law in Muslim-Non-Muslim families, which consists of three inheritance distribution patterns. First, Optional of the family is free to determine the law used in the inheritance division. This pattern is practiced by the majority pattern implemented in Thailand. Second, compromise, namely the Court and the Islamic Religious Council compromise to determine Muslim-non-Muslim inheritance law. And, Contestation, Islamic law contests with Buddhist law. The pattern of inheritance distribution between Muslim and non-Muslim families in Thailand shows flexibility of the state in implementing civil inheritance law. Also, the position of Islamic family law, especially inheritance law, is considered quite strong

    Restorative Justice Principles in Banjar Customary Inheritance Disputes: A Normative Analysis of Out-of-Court Settlement Institutions through Adat Badamai

    Inheritance disputes in Banjar communities continue to increase as families confront controversies over unwritten norms, generational change, and rising land value, creating a growing need for culturally grounded solutions. These disputes reflect a broader trend in Indonesia where communities prefer non-court settlement when judicial rulings risk disrupting social cohesion. Within this plural legal landscape, families must navigate overlapping expectations from customary norms, Islamic law, and state regulations. This study addressed a key gap by examining how restorative justice principles operate within Banjar inheritance practices. Using a qualitative normative method, the research analyzed primary legal materials, documented customary procedures, court decisions, and academic literature. The findings showed that adat badamai integrated restorative values through open dialogue, inclusive deliberation, and relational repair among heirs. The study concluded that adat badamai provides an effective culturally rooted model of restorative justice and recommends stronger legal recognition and enhanced mediator training

    Religious ritual practices among the younger generation are declining due to technological advancements, cultural shifts, social changes, and evolving lifestyles. Barzanji, as an oral tradition within Islamic societies, plays a vital role in preserving spiritual and cultural values. Yet, with the diminishing religious ritual engagement among youth, this traditional practice faces preservation challenges. The study aimed to examine the phenomena underlying Barzanji practice among students as a spiritual medium, reflected through their perceptions of the tradition. The subjects, purposively selected undergraduate students from Hasanuddin University\u27s Arabic Literature Department (2021-2024 cohorts), represent future cultural preservation agents as Barzanji practitioners. Data collection employed in-depth interviews, with analysis conducted through data compilation, reduction, and conclusion drawing. Findings reveal that students hold complex perspectives on the relationship between tradition, social identity, and religious values. They perceived the Barzanji tradition not merely as cultural heritage, but as a vital vehicle for character development and spiritual formation. Thus, preserving this tradition necessitates a holistic approach, extending beyond ritual practice to incorporate educational and discursive initiatives that enrich understanding and foster active community-level participation in safeguarding religious rituals

    The debate over whether morality is innate (nature) or the result of learning and environment (nurture) is a fundamental discourse in the history of human thought. This article aims to critically and comparatively analyze the views of Islamic and Western thought on the nature of morality. Three main questions are the focus of this study: (1) Is morality permanent, or can it be changed through training?; (2) How are moral laws determined, based on intention or consequence?; and (3) What is the primary source of moral requirements?. This study employs a qualitative approach, utilizing a library research method. Data were collected through documentation techniques from various primary and secondary sources, including books, scientific journals, and relevant philosophical works. The collected data was then analyzed using Miles and Huberman\u27s interactive analysis model, which includes three stages: data reduction, data display, and conclusions. This study reveals that in Islamic thought, morality is viewed as an innate potential that can be shaped and refined through education and self-improvement. Moral judgment is centred on intention (niyyah), with reason and revelation as sources of ethics that work synergistically. Conversely, Western thought tends to debate the fixed or changeable nature of morality, emphasizing the consequences of actions as a moral standard. Within the framework of ethics, rationality and social responsibility are the main foundations for formulating moral standards.Perdebatan mengenai filsafat akhlak, apakah ia merupakan bawaan lahir (nature) atau hasil dari latihan dan lingkungan (nurture), merupakan diskursus fundamental dalam sejarah pemikiran manusia. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis secara kritis dan komparatif pandangan para pemikir Islam dan Barat mengenai hakikat akhlak. Fokus utama kajian ini adalah pada tiga isu sentral: (1) apakah akhlak bersifat permanen atau dapat diubah melalui latihan; (2) bagaimana hukum akhlak ditentukan, apakah berdasarkan niat (intention) atau hasil (consequence); dan (3) apa yang menjadi sumber utama tuntutan moral. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan jenis penelitian kepustakaan (library research). Data dikumpulkan melalui teknik dokumentasi dari berbagai sumber primer dan sekunder, seperti buku, jurnal ilmiah, dan karya-karya filosofis yang relevan. Data yang terkumpul kemudian dianalisis menggunakan model analisis interaktif dari Miles dan Huberman, yang mencakup tiga tahap: reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemikiran Islam memandang akhlak sebagai potensi bawaan yang dapat diubah dan disempurnakan melalui latihan (riyadhah). Penilaian baik dan buruk sangat menekankan pada niat (niyyah) di balik perbuatan, dan sumber tuntutan moralnya adalah sinergi antara akal dan wahyu. Sebaliknya, pemikiran Barat, meskipun beragam, cenderung menyoroti perdebatan antara akhlak sebagai sesuatu yang permanen dan memberikan penekanan pada tujuan atau konsekuensi dari sebuah tindakan sebagai tolok ukur moral. Sumber tuntutannya sering kali berpusat pada rasio yang dikaitkan dengan kewajiban sosial. Meskipun kedua tradisi sama-sama mengakui peran akal dalam diskursus moral, perbedaan fundamental terletak pada peran sentral wahyu dalam tradisi Islam sebagai standar tertinggi yang membimbing dan menyempurnakan akal

    This conceptual analysis addresses the challenges in Islamic Religious Education learning outcomes amid the digital era transition, where conventional media like face-to-face lectures and printed books struggle with passive engagement, while digital tools such as interactive videos and online platforms enhance interactivity but risk distractions and motivational decline. The objective is to compare these media through the lens of Skinner\u27s behaviorism theory and Islamic education principles to propose an integrative hybrid model for holistic improvement. Employing a qualitative conceptual approach via library research and thematic synthesis of primary sources like Skinner\u27s works and Quranic texts alongside secondary literature from 2010-2025, the study reveals that digital media boosts cognitive and behavioral outcomes by up to 40% through multimodal stimuli and variable reinforcement, complemented by Islamic principles like tawhid for intrinsic motivation, reducing disengagement by 30-45%. The hybrid model, blending 60% digital reinforcement with 40% conventional reflection, yields a projected 50% holistic gain across cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains. In conclusion, this integration fosters resilient spiritual-behavioral development, urging educators to adopt adaptive strategies for inclusive Islamic education

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan dampak kegiatan cooking class terhadap perkembangan motorik dan psikososial siswa PAUD IT Al-Hasanah Bengkulu. Pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus digunakan. Penelitian ini melibatkan 10 anak usia 5–6 tahun yang dipilih secara purposive berdasarkan keaktifan mereka dalam cooking class. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi partisipan, wawancara dengan guru, dan dokumentasi kegiatan. Analisis data menggunakan model interaktif Miles dan Huberman yang meliputi reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa cooking class memberikan pengaruh positif terhadap perkembangan motorik halus anak, seperti koordinasi keterampilan dalam menggenggam, mengaduk, dan mencelupkan bahan masakan. Peningkatan psikososial juga terlihat, meliputi peningkatan kerja sama, komunikasi verbal, disiplin, dan rasa percaya diri. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa cooking class merupakan strategi pembelajaran di luar sekolah yang efektif untuk mendukung perkembangan holistik peserta didik PAUD, khususnya aspek motorik dan psikososial. Penelitian ini merekomendasikan agar kegiatan serupa dimasukkan ke dalam kurikulum PAUD untuk memperkaya pengalaman belajar anak.Pendidikan luar sekolah memainkan peran penting dalam mendukung perkembangan holistik anak usia dini, terutama dalam memperkaya keterampilan motorik, sosial, dan kognitif mereka. Penelitian ini mengeksplorasi penerapan kegiatan cooking class sebagai bagian integral dari pembelajaran luar sekolah di PAUD IT Al-Hasanah 2 Bengkulu. Kegiatan ini dirancang dengan fokus pada pengajaran pembuatan ayam goreng crispy, di mana anak-anak secara aktif terlibat dalam setiap tahap proses memasak, mulai dari persiapan bahan hingga penyajian. Dengan menggabungkan unsur praktis dan edukatif, cooking class bertujuan untuk memberikan pengalaman belajar yang menyenangkan dan bermanfaat. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kegiatan ini tidak hanya menghadirkan kesenangan, tetapi juga secara signifikan meningkatkan keterampilan motorik halus anak-anak, seperti koordinasi tangan dan mata, serta kemampuan berbahasa dan bekerja sama. Selain itu anak-anak menunjukkan peningkatan dalam kepercayaan diri mereka, berkat pengalaman langsung yang membangun rasa pencapaian pribadi dan keterampilan praktis yang dapat diterapkan dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Oleh karena itu, cooking class menjadi salah satu metode pembelajaran luar sekolah yang inovatif untuk mendukung perkembangan anak usia dini secara menyeluru

    This study was conducted based on the need for an electronic teaching module that can be used by students independently. Able to integrate Islamic values in mathematics learning in class V MI Nor Rahman on the material of cube and cuboid shapes. This study aims to develop and determine the level of feasibility and effectiveness of STREAM-based mathematics learning e-modules on cube and cuboid material for class V MI Nor Rahman Banjarmasin students. The e-Module developed is based on STREAM (Science, Technology, Religious, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics). Integrating STEAM and religious values to improve learning outcomes.This study uses the ADDIE development model(Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, Evaluate). Data collection techniques using observation, interviews, questionnaires, tests, and documentation with qualitative and quantitative data analysis techniques.The results of the e-module development show validity. The results of the media expert validation with an average value of 76.8%, the material expert obtained a value of 78.6%, the language expert showed a value of 72%, the validation of Islamic education experts obtained a value of 90%, the validation of learning experts obtained a value of 90.5%. While the validation of learning practitioners (mathematics teachers) obtained an average value of 88.3%, which strengthens the finding that this e-module is very practical and feasible. The attractiveness data shows a percentage of 86.18%, which is categorized as very interesting. The results of the effectiveness of media use show that the average results in the experimental class have increased, namely from the pretest 58, increasing in the posttest to 85. The results of the t-test show a significance value (2-tailed) of 0.000 which is smaller than 0.05. This shows a significant difference between student learning outcomes in the experimental class and the control class.Penelitian ini dilakukan berdasarkan kebutuhan modul ajar elektronik yang dapat dimanfaatkan oleh siswa secara mandiri. Mampu untuk mengintegrasikan nilai keIslaman pada pembelajaran matematika di kelas V MI Nor Rahman pada materi bangun kubus dan balok. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan dan mengetahui tingkat kelayakan serta efektivitas e-modul pembelajaran matematika berbasis STREAM pada materi kubus dan balok untuk siswa kelas V MI Nor Rahman Banjarmasin. e-Modul yang dikembangkan berbasis STREAM (Science, Technology, Religious, Engineering, Art, dan Mathematics). Mengintegrasikan STEAM dan nilai-nilai religius untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar. Penelitian ini menggunakan model pengembangan ADDIE (Analyze, Design, Development, Implement, Evaluate). Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan observasi, wawancara, angket, tes, dan dokumentasi dengan teknik analisis data kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Hasil pengembangan e-modul menunjukan kevalidan. Hasil validasi ahli media dengan nilai ra ta-rata sebesar 76,8%, ahli materi memperoleh nilai 78,6%,, ahli bahasa menunjukkan nilai 72%, Validasi ahli pendidikan Islam memperoleh nilai 90%, Pada validasi dari ahli pembelajaran memperoleh nilai 90,5%. Sedangkan validasi praktisi pembelajaran (guru-guru matematika) memperoleh nilai rata-rata 88,3%, yang memperkuat temuan bahwa e-modul ini sangat praktis dan layak. Data kemenarikan menunjukkan persentase sebesar 86,18%, yang dikategorikan sangat menarik Hasil efektivitas penggunaan media menunjukkan hasil rata-rata pada kelas eksperimen mengalami peningkatan yaitu dari pretest 58, mengalami peningkatan pada postest menjadi 85. Hasil uji-t menunjukkan nilai signifikansi (2-tailed) sebesar 0,000 yang lebih kecil dari 0,05. Hal ini menunjukkan adanya perbedaan yang signifikan antara hasil belajar siswa di kelas eksperimen dengan kelas kontrol.  Kata Kunci: Pengembangan 1; e-Modul 2; STREAM
