From Need to Action: Developing an E-Module for Teaching Arabic Rhetoric (Ilm al-Bayan) through the CLIL Approach

    No full text
Arabic Rhetoric (Ilm al-Bayan) is often perceived as challenging by university students due to its abstract concepts and reliance on traditional, teacher-centered instruction. Despite its linguistic and cultural importance, efforts to modernize its teaching through pedagogically sound, technology-enhanced methods remain limited. This study addresses this gap by integrating the ADDIE instructional design model with the Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) approach to develop an interactive e-module tailored specifically for Ilm al-Bayan instruction. Employing a quasi-experimental design, the research involved 110 undergraduate students from the Arabic Language Department at State Islamic University in Padang. Data collected through expert validation, questionnaires, pre-tests, and post-tests were analyzed both statistically and thematically. The findings reveal that while students acknowledge the value of Ilm al-Bayan for developing linguistic, aesthetic, and critical skills, they face significant challenges due to outdated resources, teacher-centered approaches, and limited interactivity. Students expressed a strong preference for flexible, autonomous, and interactive learning tools, particularly digital platforms. Results demonstrate that the CLIL-based e-module effectively addresses these needs by combining meaningful content with language learning through multimedia, interactive exercises, and instant feedback, thereby enhancing comprehension, motivation, and self-directed learning. This need analysis confirms the timeliness and necessity of developing a CLIL-integrated e-module for Ilm al-Bayan, offering a transformative approach that makes Arabic Rhetoric education more engaging, accessible, and effective in higher education contexts

Addressing diverse challenges in teaching reading comprehension: Voices among Indonesian university teachers

    No full text
Many students struggle with reading comprehension due to limited vocabulary and lack of background knowledge, often leading to insufficient understanding of texts. While research has extensively explored reading comprehension at primary and secondary levels, challenges in higher education, particularly in Islamic-based institutions, remain underexamined. This study investigates the difficulties faced by Indonesian university teachers in teaching reading comprehension within such a context. Using a mixed-methods approach, the research combined qualitative data from non-participatory observations and semi-structured interviews with quantitative survey data. Participants included three English teachers teaching reading comprehension at a university in Malang, Indonesia, selected through purposeful sampling for their direct classroom engagement and ability to provide first-hand insights. Data analysis involved data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusions to identify recurring themes and patterns, combined with descriptive statistics to summarize survey results of the identified challenges. The findings reveal multifaceted challenges of teaching reading, stemming from both instructional and student-related factors, such as limited vocabulary mastery, low motivation, and inadequate resources. These findings emphasize the need for better professional development, resource management, and strategic intervention to support students and teachers. The study offers valuable insights for policymakers, educators, and researchers to improve instructional practices in Indonesian higher education

Electronic Registration of Waqf Land under the PTSL Program from a Maslahah Perspective: A Study at the Indonesian Waqf Agency Office in East Java

    No full text
Waqf land in East Java amounts to 78,825 plots covering 5,006.23 hectares, yet its registration level remains relatively low. Of this number, only 37,940 plots (2,270.25 ha) have been certified, while 4,885 plots (2,735.98 ha) have not obtained formal legal status. This study aims to analyze the registration system for waqf land under the Complete Systematic Land Registration Program (PTSL) and the implementation of E-Registration, as well as to examine the supervision mechanisms and their legal implications. Using an empirical juridical method with a socio-legal approach, the study explores registration practices and institutional dynamics of waqf management in the field. The primary contribution of this research lies in establishing a conceptual link between digital transformation in land administration—specifically through E-Registration—and Islamic legal institutions governing waqf. The findings show that digitalizing PTSL significantly increases the number of registered waqf lands and enhances efficiency, transparency, accountability, and legal protection for both nazhir and wakif. This demonstrates that digitalization is not merely an administrative innovation but also a tool that strengthens waqf governance as part of contemporary Islamic legal reform. This study fills a gap in the literature, which has largely focused on normative aspects of waqf without examining the integration of technology into its implementation. From a policy perspective, the success of digital PTSL depends on effective E-AIW training, accurate data validation, digital outreach, and continuous monitoring.  Waqf land in East Java is 78,825 plots with total of 5,006.23 hectares. Legal Pluralism and Rural Welfare: Harmonizing Customary Law and Islamic Principles in Indonesia’s Village Fund Allocation

    No full text
Village development is a crucial pillar in achieving national welfare through the effective utilization of the Village Fund. This study aims to analyze the effect of harmonization between customary law and Islamic principles in the utilization of the Village Fund on improving the collective welfare of village communities in Indonesia, especially in Kerinci Regency. The method used is a mixed methods approach, with quantitative techniques through the Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) model and qualitative methods based on in-depth interviews and participatory observation. The results showed that the integration of local cultural values such as gotong royong, normative attachment, and deliberative conflict resolution contributed significantly to strengthening participatory and equitable governance of the Village Fund. In addition, Islamic principles such as deliberation (shura), trustworthiness, justice (\u27adl), and public good (maslahah \u27ammah) provide an ethical basis for decision-making on the use of the Village Fund. The resulting structural model shows high predictive value with support from empirical data, where customary social sanctions act as an effective social control mechanism. The research also found challenges in implementation, such as the dominance of local elites and the lack of contextual understanding of progressive Islamic values. Therefore, recommendations are provided for incorporating the principles of customary and Islamic law into formal village regulations to establish inclusive, equitable, and sustainable development governance. Theoretically, this study enriches the discourse on legal pluralism in village development governance, while practically providing a strategic framework for policymakers and village stakeholders in designing a Village Fund management model oriented towards social justice and sustainability

    No full text
The clean water crisis has become a pressing issue in highland areas such as Dusun Bunder, Klaten. Limited groundwater sources have encouraged the local community to independently develop rainwater conservation systems. This study aims to examine the practice of ecotheology embodied through the religious leadership of Romo Kirjito in water conservation, and to analyze its contribution to environmental sustainability and the strengthening of interfaith harmony. The research employed a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data were collected through field observations, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. The data were analyzed descriptively and qualitatively through stages of data reduction, categorization, and interpretation based on ecotheological theory. The results indicate that water conservation in Dusun Bunder is not only technical in nature, but also integrated with religious values and local traditions. Innovations such as rainwater harvesting and electrolysis technology were developed through participatory community efforts. This research complements studies on the relationship between environmental spirituality and community-based conservation practices. The findings suggest that local leadership and interfaith values can serve as a strong foundation for sustainable water management. This model can be replicated in other areas facing similar challenges

Have All The Abangan Gone? Study The Existence of Muslim Abangan in Central Java

    No full text
This study aims explore wether the Abangan Muslim community in Central Java, particularly in Blora, still exists and is growing or diseappered. Although previous studies have indicated the decline of Abangan religious practice, as Hefner puts it with his big question, “Where have all the Abangan gone?” field findings suggest otherwise. Using an ethnographic qualitative approach this article argues that several factors, including local government support, the role of community leaders, and the Samin community, influence the survival of the Abangan community in Blora. Further analysis shows these factors are interrelated and form a complex system in maintaining Abangan religious identity and practices amidst changing socio-cultural dynamics in the contemporary world

Faithful Silencing: The Rejection of Loudspeakers as Islamic Piety in West Java, Indonesia

    No full text
The phenomenon of non-use of technology remains relatively underexplored. In West Java, certain religious communities choose not to use specific technologies, particularly within the Islamic anti-speaker group known as the Aspek (anti-speaker) community. This study aims to analyze the piety of Muslim members of the Aspek community in rejecting the use of loudspeaker technology. Data were collected through fieldwork, including unstructured interviews with leaders and members of the Aspek community, as well as direct observation. The data were analyzed using the multilevel model of resistance to information technology implementation as the theoretical framework. The findings reveal that the Aspek community’s rejection of loudspeakers is influenced by user-related factors, particularly religious beliefs and interpretations, as well as technology-related factors. These two aspects shape a form of communal technological non-use deeply rooted in cultural and spiritual values

Character Education Based on the Book Mau\u27idhotul Mukminin in Fostering the Spirit of Entrepreneurship among Students of the Fathul Ulum Islamic Boarding School in Diwek

    No full text
This study examines the implementation of character education based on the Mau\u27idhotul Mukminin book to foster the entrepreneurial spirit of students at Pesantren Fathul Ulum, Jombang. Written by Sheikh Jamaluddin al-Qasimi, this book serves as a reference for instilling Islamic values in entrepreneurship, such as ethics in work and business conduct. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation. Pesantren Fathul Ulum integrates Islamic education rooted in classical texts with entrepreneurship training in agriculture, livestock farming, and garment production. The findings reveal that this approach effectively develops students\u27 character to be religious, independent, and adaptable to modern economic challenges. Key supporting factors include the charismatic leadership of the caretaker, support from teachers and administrators, and collaboration with external partners. However, challenges such as low student awareness of entrepreneurship\u27s importance and limited expertise in digital marketing were also identified. By integrating the values of Mau\u27idhotul Mukminin, Pesantren Fathul Ulum establishes an educational model relevant to globalization, equipping students with sharia-based economic skills while upholding moral values. This model is expected to serve as a reference for other Islamic boarding schools in developing entrepreneurship education.
