    No full text
Critical literacy is essential to be implemented in this 21st-century education. However, the implementation of it remains underexplored, especially in the Indonesian context. This study aims to investigate the implementation of critical literacy in teaching exposition texts and its impacts on students\u27 critical language awareness. Using a qualitative approach with a case study design, the research involved an English teacher and thirty-six tenth-grade students of a public senior high school in one district in West Java, Indonesia. Data were collected through classroom observations. The data were analyzed using deductive thematic analysis based on the four-dimension framework of critical literacy and the five-step guided instructional approach as the guideline. Findings indicated that the teacher has successfully implemented the critical literacy strategies in teaching exposition texts. Furthermore, the practices enhanced students’ critical language awareness by encouraging analytical text evaluation. However, there were two main challenges, particularly in engaging with socio-political issues and taking action since both the teacher and students were still unfamiliar with the discussion of sensitive issues. The study highlights the practical and pedagogical benefits of critical literacy in underrepresented educational settings, contributing to the preparation of a globally competitive and socially aware generation

    No full text
The high number of drug addicts who have been successfully rehabilitated in Central Kalimantan (2,982 people) in the last 7 years always relates to the role of Dayak tribal leaders. Drug abuse is a significant threat to social cohesion and the sustainability of Dayak culture. The research aimed to analyze how Dayak Ngaju customary sanctions are applied in the rehabilitation of drug addicts and their impact on preserving cultural values. The study was a qualitative approach and used in-depth interviews and participant observations to collect the data from traditional figures and Dayak communities. The findings showed that Customary Sanctions function not only as a form of punishment but also as an effective rehabilitation tool, fostering a sense of accountability and strong social bonds. The study’s implications underscore the importance of integrating local wisdom into drug abuse prevention efforts as a means to reinforce the community’s social and cultural networks. Future research is recommended to explore the long-term effectiveness of these sanctions in preventing relapse and to compare similar practices across Indigenous communities

Spiritual and Customary Authority of Damang in Post-Divorce Child Support: Rethinking Indigenous Justice in Dayak Ngaju Communities

    No full text
Dayak Ngaju customary law endows the Damang (Dayak customary leader) with formal authority, both as a customary and spiritual figure. In divorce law, the enforcement of child support rulings often faces implementation challenges, potentially undermining the Damang’s socio-spiritual legitimacy. The study aimed to examine the authority of the Damang in handling child support obligations after divorce within the Dayak Ngaju community. The empirical research employed a socio-legal approach, with primary data collected and validated through triangulation techniques, and analyzed within the frameworks of customary law, positive law, and Islamic law. The findings confirm that the Damang holds formal authority to issue and supervise customary rulings. However, this structural authority has not been fully effective due to the absence of adequate enforcement mechanisms. The study proposes a hybrid legal model integrating Damang’s resolution methods with state enforcement to ensure justice and child welfare. As the spearhead of customary justice, the Damang’s role contributes to the discourse on the authority of indigenous leaders, the rights of indigenous communities, and access to justice

    No full text
Digital infidelity among young Muslim couples has increased alongside the expansion of media ecologies that reshape interpersonal intimacy, trust structures, and hybrid interaction spaces. This study examines how virtual cheating contributes to marital conflict and divorce, and reassesses the axiology of ṭalāq within Islamic legal philosophy to determine the moral value, intentionality, and ethical limits of divorce in the digital era. Using a qualitative library-based method with a normative–philosophical approach, this research employs interpretive and conceptual analysis of literature on digital infidelity, the axiology of divorce, and maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah. The findings reveal that digital cheating generates ambiguous evidence, multilayered trust erosion, and violations of intentionality that are morally comparable to physical infidelity. The axiological analysis affirms that the legitimacy of ṭalāq in digital cases depends on the degree of harm, emotional betrayal, and the feasibility of reconciliation. This study offers an ethical framework for assessing divorce and a value-based reconciliation model grounded in Islamic philosophy, contributing conceptually to contemporary Islamic family law in the context of digital relational transformation.

This article discusses the implementation of quality control systems in maintaining the effectiveness of Islamic non-formal education through a conceptual and analytical literature-based approach. Islamic non-formal education plays a strategic role in expanding access to lifelong learning and empowering communities through skill-based and entrepreneurial programs. However, the effectiveness of non-formal education institutions is often hindered by a limited number of professional educators, insufficient funding, and a weak institutional quality culture. Using a qualitative descriptive library research approach, this study synthesizes academic literature, policy documents, and national quality assurance frameworks related to non-formal education institutions, including Community Learning Activity Centers (PKBM) and Course and Training Institutions (LKP). The analysis conceptualizes the effectiveness of quality control systems not as empirically measured outcomes, but as a theoretical construct shaped by leadership commitment, stakeholder participation, and systemic regulatory support. From the perspective of Islamic education, quality control is interpreted as an ethical obligation (amanah) that integrates professional standards with moral responsibility and social accountability. The main contribution of this article lies in offering a conceptual framework that enriches the discourse on quality management in Islamic non-formal education by integrating sustainability principles with Islamic educational values. This study aims to measure the effectiveness of the quality control system in maintaining the sustainability of non-formal education. Non-formal education has a strategic role in expanding access and equalizing lifelong learning opportunities, especially for communities that are not accessible to formal education. The implementation of non-formal education provides skills to students so they can work or develop independent businesses as entrepreneurs in various types of skills. However, the sustainability of the quality of non-formal education services often faces challenges such as limited professional teaching staff, minimal financial support, and a weak quality culture at the institutional level. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, this study analyzes the implementation of quality control systems in several non-formal educational institutions, including Community Learning Activity Centers (PKBM) and Course and Training Institutions (LKP), with reference to the national policy of education quality assurance. The research results show that the effectiveness of a quality control system is highly dependent on three main aspects: (1) the commitment of institutional leaders to the implementation of quality standards, (2) the active involvement of all stakeholders in the evaluation and continuous improvement process, and (3) regulatory and facilitative support from local governments. Institutions with a planned, monitored, and periodically evaluated quality control system are able to maintain service quality and increase public trust. Thus, the quality control system functions not only as an administrative control mechanism but also as a strategic instrument in ensuring the sustainability and relevance of non-formal education to community needs and current developments

    No full text
Mastering a foreign language requires not only memorization but also overcoming deeply ingrained linguistic habits. For Banjar learners studying Arabic, phonological and grammatical challenges pose significant barriers to fluency. This study explores the phonological and grammatical errors encountered by Banjar learners in Arabic speaking skills at Pesantren Darullughah Wadda\u27wah Putri. Through a qualitative descriptive approach, it identifies the prevalent types of errors, their underlying causes, and potential pedagogical strategies for improvement. The findings reveal significant phonological issues, including substitutions of Arabic phonemes influenced by the Banjar dialect, as well as grammatical inconsistencies due to overgeneralization and limited exposure to authentic Arabic structures. The study highlights native language interference, lack of phonetic training, and psychological barriers, such as fear of criticism, as primary causes of these challenges. Proposed solutions include intensive phonetic drills, immersive language environments, context-based grammar instruction, and the integration of cultural and technological resources. This research contributes to Arabic language pedagogy by providing targeted strategies to enhance the proficiency of Banjar learners, bridging linguistic gaps while respecting their cultural identity
