    Ketamine and Tetris: Combining PTSD Treatment Methods

    Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is an emerging therapeutic approach combining ketamine administration with psychotherapy for various mental health conditions. This paper reviews the potential efficacy of KAP, specifically in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The dissociative effects of ketamine may enhance psychotherapeutic processes, particularly when integrated with Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a therapy designed for trauma. Recent studies have demonstrated significant reductions in anxiety and depression symptoms among patients receiving KAP, with improvements correlated to the number of sessions. Additionally, sublingual ketamine-assisted somatic psychotherapy showed promising results in treating trauma-exposed individuals, suggesting meaningful reductions in PTSD symptoms and global disability after six sessions. Studies also show reduction in symptoms of PTSD after playing the game Tetris, highlighting similar mechanisms with EMDR. While these findings are encouraging, further research is essential to establish the safety and efficacy of combining ketamine with trauma-focused therapies like EMDR. Controlled clinical trials should explore optimal dosage, timing, and long-term outcomes, considering diverse patient characteristics and ethical considerations. This paper provides relevant background into PTSD, including existing and emerging treatments such as Tetris, and also presents data from studies to highlight the efficacy of combining ketamine and EMDR for PTSD treatment

    From Selfies to Resumes: The Impact of Online Privacy Concerns on Unemployment Duration

    Potential employees’ digital privacy beliefs shape the way they present themselves online; this online presence in turn impacts employers’ opinions on their potential hires, and their hiring decisions. This paper uses discrete-time hazard logit regressions to model unemployment durations and predict when unemployment spells end. After sorting the individuals in my dataset into different levels of privacy consciousness, I was able to separate the impact of different types of privacy concern on unemployment duration. The models reveals that all privacy concerned groups had longer unemployment spells. However, the most privacy careful group, those who practiced privacy-protective behaviors, have the shortest unemployment durations within the privacy conscious group. I believe that the overall longer effect is due to screening discrimination, and the differences between the privacy groups are due to cybervetting. Both effects are active simultaneously, and more research into the topic could yield more information on the impact of digital privacy on the job-seeking process

    Developing a Gradient Representation Using Stochastic Harmonic Grammar Model Tools

    The tools and structure of the derivational models Noisy Harmonic Grammar and MaxEnt are used to represent the gradient phonological phenomena of voicing status. The resulting representations are thus suitable for deriving patterns of gradient phenomenon. To do so, the gradient phenomenon is defined by its two categorical, perfect values, and the partial application of the phenomenon is defined by the numerical percent of space that either perfect value takes up. Chicano English word-final /z/ devoicing is used as the example gradient phenomenon in the development of a gradient representation within a derivational structure. The patterns of gradience are defined by the different devoicing rates that result from the phonological conditioning factor: the voicing status of the following segment. The rate of devoicing that appears, and the variation that arises within the patterns, are able to be represented within the frames of the two derivational models Noisy Harmonic Grammar and MaxEnt
