HostSec: A blockchain-based authentication framework for SDN hosts
Software defined networking (SDN) is a novel networking paradigm that aims to achieve global management for the underlying forwarding plane based on its centralization concept. Unfortunately, the newly designed paradigm does not consider security issues related to unauthenticated and unauthorized activities across various SDN layers. Recently, blockchain (BC) technology has proven successful in providing a decentralized, immutable, and fault tolerant ledger. In this study, we take advantage of blockchain characteristics to provide mutual host-controller, PacketIn/PacketOut and host-host authentication methods. We also provide secure Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) and Identity Resolution Protocol (IRP) to protect layer 3 and layer 2 of the SDN network. In addition, both SDN hosts and controllers utilize lattice-based signatures based on Dilithium scheme and Key Encapsulation Methods (KEMs) based on Kyber scheme to provide protection against quantum adversaries. We also compare our work with AuthFlow (Mattos and Duarte in Ann Telecommun 71:607-615, 2016). The results show that HostSec is more secure than AuthFlow due to its ability to detect both host-based and switch-based PacketIn attacks and also reduces the load on the SDN controller. Overall, the experimental results suggest a trade-off between improved security and lower latency
Cross-selling challenges and opportunities: Navigating managerial expectations, emotional exhaustion, and sales performance
This study investigates how perceived formal managerial cross-selling expectations impact salesperson emotional exhaustion and performance, with a focus on the moderating effects of perceived managerial customer orientation and customer participation expectations. Rooted in the Job Demands-Resources framework, it treats perceived formal managerial cross-selling and customer-orientation expectations as job demands, and perceived managerial customer participation as a job resource. The study comprises one qualitative and two quantitative studies. Exploratory qualitative interviews with 7 salespeople provided insights provided insights into their perceptions of managerial expectations. Study 1 (237 salespeople) explored relationships between perceived formal managerial cross-selling expectations, emotional exhaustion, and salesperson performance. Study 2 (253 salespeople) investigated the moderating roles of perceived managerial customer orientation and customer participation expectations. Findings highlight emotional exhaustion as a mediator between formal managerial cross-selling expectations and salesperson performance. This mediation effect is contingent on the presence of managerial customer-orientation expectations and customer participation. The research emphasizes the importance for managers to carefully consider heightened customer-orientation expectations, suggesting moderation, especially in cross-selling. This study offers practical insights for professionals in the marketing and sales field navigating the complexities of cross-selling to enhance sales performance
Seismic fragility and vulnerability assessment of a multi-span irregular curved bridge under spatially varying ground motions
Multi-span reinforced concrete (RC) curved box-girder bridges are commonly designed to facilitate traffic flow at highway interchanges. The Aksemsettin Viaduct (henceforth, A Viaduct for brevity) in Istanbul, Turkey, is an eleven-span interchange bridge with a total length of 596.8 m. Located in a high seismicity zone, the A Viaduct is designed with a curved deck, multiple bearings that have different isolation mechanisms at different bents and directions, ten rectangular columns with unequal heights, and a mix of pile foundations and spread footings. The significant length of the viaduct crossed by eleven spans also makes it susceptible to varying ground motion excitations at different foundations. To evaluate the effects of the degree of modeling detail and analysis complexity on the estimated seismic performance, the present study conducts a comprehensive fragility assessment of the specimen viaduct under various ground motion excitation schemes. First, a three-dimensional finite element model is developed with detailed simulations for the deck, columns, bearings, foundations, and abutment components. To enable different ground motion excitations at each foundation, 57 sets of spatially varying ground motions are simulated by considering the realistic surface topography and soil stratigraphy at the bridge site. Cyclic pushover analyses are performed along multiple loading directions to develop the directiondependent capacity limit state models for hollow rectangular columns. Subsequently, a demand-capacity ratio method is utilized to develop reliable fragility models for bridge columns. Component- and system-level fragilities of the A Viaduct are then assessed under uniform versus multi-support excitations, vertical motions, and ground motions with varying incidence angles. To further capture the seismic damage discrepancies of the same components at different locations, seismic repair cost ratios of the A Viaduct are assessed when subjected to uniform and multi-support excitations. Futbol menajerliği, geçmişten bugüne futbolun içerisinde yer almış ve yalnızca profesyonel futbolcuların değil, futbol sektörünün içerisinde bulunan diğer aktörlerin de sıklıkla faydalandığı bir kurumdur. Bu amaca yönelik olarak akdedilen futbol menajerliği sözleşmesinin unsurları 5894 sayılı Kanun’da düzenlenmiş olmakla birlikte, bu konuda TFF ve FIFA gibi yetkili idari makamların düzenleyici işlemleri de birtakım kuralları beraberinde getirir. Belirtilen düzenlemeler çerçevesinde futbol menajerliği sözleşmesinin hukuki niteliğinin ve taraflarının hak ve yükümlülüklerinin tespiti ile sözleşmenin sona erme nedenleri ve bunların sonuçlarının belirlenmesi; sözleşmeden doğan uyuşmazlıkların çözülmesi bakımından büyük önem arz eder. Çalışmamızda, sayılan konular ve daha niceleri detaylı bir şekilde ele alınmış; vardığımız sonuçlar kişisel görüşlerimiz eşliğinde sunulmuştur.Football agency is an institution that has been involved in football from the past to the present and is frequently used not only by professional football players but also by other actors in the football sector. While the elements of the football management contract, executed for this purpose, are regulated under Law No. 5894, the regulatory acts of the competent administrative authorities such as TFF and FIFA also bring along certain rules. Within the framework of the aforementioned regulations, determination of the legal character of the football agent contract, rights and obligations of the parties to the football agent contract, the reasons for the termination of the contract and their consequences are of great importance in terms of resolving disputes arising from the contract. In our study, the aforementioned issues and many more are discussed in detail and our conclusions are presented with our personal opinions
Farklı rejenere edilmiş ömrünü tamamlamış malzemeler içeren çimento karışımlarının performansı üzerine deneysel ve analitik çalışma.
Cement, which is one of the main constituents of conventional concrete, is being manufactured every day around the world. because of the large demand for the material, the industry is responsible for 8% of the total global man-made CO2 emission [1]. Thus, environmental considerations motivated researchers to find alternative replacements for cement in concrete that can reduce the harmful impacts of the concrete industry. Calcined clays are one group of Supplementary Cementitious Materials (SCMs); among them, metakaolin is the most reactive SCM recognized up to now [2]. However, due to its limited resources and uses in other industries, it has a relatively high price and it is not feasible to use it as a cement substitution in larger volumes. Therefore, treating and activating other potential materials in order to obtain an active cement replacement is the interest of many research projects nowadays. Due to their high alumina and silica content, concrete demolition waste and mineral demolition deposit quarries can be suitable SCM candidates for cementitious systems. When these raw materials and End of Life (EOL) products (such as marble dust from quarries) are used directly, they are not chemically involved in the hydration processes needed for the setting and hardening of concrete and only act as a filler. However, appropriate mechanical and thermal activation procedures can destabilize the pozzolanic-active phases in EOL materials, might contribute to the hydration reactions, and replace a considerable portion of OPC. Nevertheless, there is a knowledge gap in experimentally activating the EOL materials and investigating their effects on cementitious systems when included at high percentages. Thus, this study aims at understanding the performance of cementitious mixes containing regenerated EOL materials as SCMs up to 30% replacements. The influence of regenerated EOL materials was measured by fresh and hardened state tests, as well as durability assessments. The results showed that there was a general decrease in the workability and strength of EOL-containing samples, while the other results varied from one material to another. The experimental results were further used for generating analytical estimation models. The outcomes of this study will enable utilization of EOL materials which would decrease the environmental problems of landfill accumulation. This will also create economic value for these large amounts of waste material that previously had zero value, as well as decreasing energy consumption, CO2 emission, and the raw material costs of cement production. All of these factors contribute to the Horizon Europe targets in the European Energy Sustainability Initiative.Geleneksel beton üretiminin ana bileşenlerinden biri olan çimento, dünya çapında her gün milyonlarca ton üretilmektedir. Bu malzemeye olan büyük talep nedeniyle endüstrisi toplam küresel insan kaynaklı CO2 emisyonunun %8'inden sorumludur [1]. Bunun sonucunda oluşan çevresel kaygılar araştırmacıları beton endüstrisinin zararlı etkilerini azaltabilecek betonda çimento yerine kullanılabilecek alternatif kaynaklar bulmaya yöneltmiştir. Bu çalışma, çimento miktarının bir kısmı rejenere edilmiş ÖT malzemeler ile ikame edilen içeren çimentolu karışımların performansını anlamayı değerlendirmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Rejenere ÖT malzemelerinin etkisi, taze ve sertleşmiş durum testlerinin yanı sıra dayanıklılık değerlendirmeleri ile ölçülmüştür. Sonuçlar, ÖT içeren numunelerin işlenebilirliğinde ve dayanımında genel bir düşüş olduğunu, diğer sonuçların ise malzemeden malzemeye değiştiğini göstermiştir. Bu çalışmanın sonuçları, ÖT malzemelerinin çimento ikamesi olarak kullanımını mümkün kılacak ve atık depolama sahalarında biriken çevresel sorunları azaltacaktır. Bu aynı zamanda, daha önce sıfır değere sahip olan bu büyük miktardaki atık malzeme için ekonomik değer yaratacak ve enerji tüketimini, CO2 emisyonunu ve çimento üretiminin hammadde maliyetlerini azaltacaktır. Tüm bu faktörler, Avrupa Enerji Sürdürülebilirliği Girişimi'ndeki Horizon Europe hedeflerine katkıda bulunmaktadır
How do line extensions impact brand sales? The role of feature similarity and brand architecture
Brand architecture decisions have important performance implications but have seen little quantitative research. In particular, there is little empirical evidence on how the strength of the link established among clusters of products within the company’s portfolio impact the sales effects of typical marketing actions such as line extensions. This paper quantifies the effect of different brand architecture choices and product feature similarity in moderating the impact of line extensions on brand sales. Based on categorization theory, the authors hypothesize that brand name similarity and feature similarity, both independently, and in interaction, increase brand cannibalization. The empirical analysis in three consumer packaged-goods categories shows that it is more critical to minimize the feature similarity than brand name similarity to limit cannibalization and generate higher incremental sales from line extensions. Controlling for feature similarity, line extensions introduced under sub-brands cause greater cannibalization.Publisher versio
My Creative World (MCW): Improving creative thinking in elementary school-aged children
Many training programs have aimed to improve creative thinking abilities in various settings. The study of relevant literature revealed a relatively lower number of creativity programs for children than those developed for adults. The current work introduces a new and comprehensive nine-week long creativity intervention program implemented (out of school-setting) in 8- to 11-year-old children of socioeconomically disadvantaged families in Turkey. The intervention program was organized around four main themes (Persona, Object, Surrounding, Experience) and composed of nine activities: collection making, identity box, building a memory-device, designing an object, sensory mapping, designing a space, visual storytelling, exploring an imaginary planet, and solving a social conflict. Children (n = 159) were randomly assigned to experimental and control groups, and they took the Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking both before and after the intervention. Results showed that children in the experimental group had significantly higher verbal fluency and originality scores at the posttest compared to the control group. These results provide further evidence for the trainability of creativity and introduce a novel, affordable creativity intervention program that is feasible enough to be implemented in and out of the school setting
Rationalising pedagogy: What counts as skill across musical communities of practice in contemporary Istanbul
Over the last two decades, the skilled practice of learning the ney (Sufi reed flute) has gone through a massive revival in Turkey, as part of a broader interest in the revitalised ‘Sufi music’ genre and in Islamic arts learning. One key step in this process has been the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) government’s incorporation of ney teaching into mass public education through its council-run adult education programme (İSMEK). While this development has been pivotal in broadening access to skill attainment in the metropolitan area of Istanbul in significant ways, it has also led to a rationalisation of pedagogical practices, bringing with it transformed understandings of musical skill. To show what this process of rationalisation involves, this article examines skill training encouraged at government-sponsored lesson sites in tandem with a second mode of learning the ney grounded in apprenticeship pedagogy. The divergences emerging from this comparison reveal two very different paths to becoming an expert ney player, demonstrating, in turn, how pedagogical particularities foster different communities of practice
