Quantum signatures in a quadratic optomechanical heat engine with an atom in a tapered trap

    No full text
We investigate how quantum signatures can emerge in a single atom heat engine consisting of an atom confined in a tapered trap and subjected to hot and cold thermal reservoirs. A similar system was realized experimentally in Science 352, 325 (2016). We model such a system using a quadratic optomechanical model and identify an effective Otto cycle in the system’s dynamics. We compare the engine’s performance in quantum and classical regimes by evaluating the power dissipated. We find that lowering the temperature is insufficient to make the single atom engine in Science 352, 325 (2016) a genuine quantum-enhanced heat engine. We show that it is necessary to make the trap more asymmetric and confined to ensure that quantum correlations cause an enhancement in the power output.TÜBİTA

Electrochemical determination of ceftriaxone using polyurethane-modified electrode containing caffeic acid and chitosan

    No full text
The aim of this work was to develop an electrochemical sensor based on caffeic acid and chitosan-containing polyurethane (CAC-PU) films modified platinum electrode for ceftriaxone (CFX) determination. For this aim, firstly the CAC-PU structures were synthesized from three different diisocyanates and these structures were characterized with spectroscopic, thermal and surface analysis techniques. Then, these CAC-PU structures were coated on bare Pt electrode surface for the preparation of CFX selective sensors. Throughout this study several analytical parameters, such as film thickness, electrolyte type, pH effect, and scan rate were investigated by using differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) method. Under the optimized conditions, the voltammetric test results showed best analytical performances for CFX detection with a linear range from 0.1 to 1.5 mM. Limit of detection (LOD) and correlation coefficient (R-2) were obtained 52 mu M and 0.9991 using CAC-PU modified electrode, respectively. Stability of the modified electrode was found to be 96.78% by using reproducibility experiments (n = 10). Applicable of the presented sensor was tested in two synthetic urine samples and recoveries values were obtained 98.7% and 110%, respectively. The prepared modified electrode exhibits high repeatability, fast response, and high sensitivity, which makes it suitable for the detection of CFX in urine samples

The study aimed to examine the relationship between perceived support from both mothers-in-law and fathers-in-law and the marital satisfaction of individuals through the indirect effect of emotional closeness with each parent-in-law. As marriage affects the places and roles of both parents-in-law and children-in-law in the interrelated family systems and there is a need for realignment of in-law relationships, The Family System Theory (Minuchin, 1974) and The Expanded Family Life Cycle (McGoldrick & Carter, 1999) were used as theoretical backgrounds of the study. The study has been conducted with 560 individuals (279 females and 281 males) with the 10.14 years of marriage in average (SD = 9.31) and the inclusion criteria were being fluent in Turkish, being married for at least 3 months in their first marriages, stating their sexual orientation as heterosexual and having at least one parent-in-law alive. Gender was chosen as a moderator in the model of conditional indirect effect performed by PROCESS Macro (Hayes, 2018). Results revealed that the conditional direct effect of support from parents-in-law predicted marital satisfaction and tended to be higher for males than female individuals through the emotional closeness with parents-in-law. While the indirect effect of support from fathers-in-law was found as a significant predictor for female individuals' marital satisfaction through the level of emotional closeness, there was no significant effect regarding the relational dynamics of male individuals with their fathers-in-law, females' and males' relationships with mothers-in-law. In specific, in-law relationships were not moderated by gender in the current study. The contributions, limitations, and clinical implications were also discussed.

Inequalities in the geographical distribution and workload of obstetrics and gynaecology specialists by gender in Turkey

Background: Women often have a preference for female obstetrics and gynaecology specialists (ob/gyns). Following the policy allowing physician selection by patients in Turkey, distribution of ob/gyns by gender across provinces has been an important indicator of access to healthcare. Aims: To analyse ob/gyns distribution by gender across provinces in Turkey, with emphasis on the relationship with conservativeness of the province and resulting physician workload. Methods: We measured the number of male and female ob/gyns by province in 2016 and the number of outpatient visits and deliveries performed by male and female ob/gyns in 2015. Pearson and Spearman correlation of the female ratio with votes for conservative parties was used to assess the distribution of ob/gyns. We then analysed the correlation with resulting workload of female ob/gyns and ran linear regressions of these variables controlling the number of ob/gyns in a province. Results: More conservative provinces, measured by the vote share for conservative political parties, have a higher ratio of female ob/gyns. Linear regression showed that a 1 percentage point (pp) increase in the vote share corresponded to a 0.69 pp increase in female ratio. For workload, a 1 pp higher female ratio resulted in a decrease in workload, measured as outpatient visits per female ob/gyn divided by that per male ob/gyn, by 0.014. Conclusion: Conservative provinces have more female ob/gyns, but other provinces compensate for that with higher female ob/gyn workload. High workload may have adverse health effects and result in lower quality of care.Publisher versio

Search for high-mass resonances decaying to a jet and a Lorentz-boosted resonance in proton-proton collisions at √s = 13 TeV

    No full text
A search is reported for high-mass hadronic resonances that decay to a parton and a Lorentz-boosted resonance, which in turn decays into a pair of partons. The search is based on data collected with the CMS detector at the LHC in proton-proton collisions at s=13TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138fb−1. The boosted resonance is reconstructed as a single wide jet with substructure consistent with a two-body decay. The high-mass resonance is thus considered as a dijet system. The jet substructure information and the kinematic properties of cascade resonance decays are exploited to disentangle the signal from the large quantum chromodynamics multijet background. The dijet mass spectrum is analyzed for the presence of new high-mass resonances, and is found to be consistent with the standard model background predictions. Results are interpreted in a warped extra dimension model where the high-mass resonance is a Kaluza–Klein gluon, the boosted resonance is a radion, and the final state partons are all gluons. Limits on the production cross section are set as a function of the Kaluza–Klein gluon and radion masses. These limits exclude at 95% confidence level models with Kaluza–Klein gluon masses in the range 2.0 to 4.3 TeV and radion masses in the range 0.20 to 0.74 TeV. By exploring a novel experimental signature, the observed limits on the Kaluza–Klein gluon mass are extended by up to about 1 TeV compared to previous searches.BMBWF and FWF (Austria); FNRS and FWO (Belgium); CNPq, CAPES, FAPERJ, FAPERGS, and FAPESP (Brazil); MES and BNSF (Bulgaria); CERN; CAS, MOST, and NSFC (China); MINCIENCIAS (Colombia); MSES and CSF (Croatia); RIF (Cyprus); SENESCYT (Ecuador); MoER, ERC PUT and ERDF (Estonia); Academy of Finland, MEC, and HIP (Finland); CEA and CNRS/IN2P3 (France); BMBF, DFG, and HGF (Germany); GSRI (Greece); NKFIA (Hungary); DAE and DST (India); IPM (Iran); SFI (Ireland); INFN (Italy); MSIP and NRF (Republic of Korea); MES (Latvia); LAS (Lithuania); MOE and UM (Malaysia); BUAP, CINVESTAV, CONACYT, LNS, SEP, and UASLP-FAI (Mexico); MOS (Montenegro); MBIE (New Zealand); PAEC (Pakistan); MSHE and NSC (Poland); FCT (Portugal); JINR (Dubna); MON, ROSATOM, RAS, RFBR, and NRC KI (Russia); MESTD (Serbia); MCIN/AEI and PCTI (Spain); MoSTR(Sri Lanka); Swiss Funding Agencies (Switzerland); MST (Taipei); ThEPCenter, IPST, STAR, and NSTDA (Thailand); TUBITAK and TAEK (Turkey); NASU (Ukraine); STFC (United Kingdom); DOE and NSF (USA). HandMECH—Mechanical hand prosthesis: Conceptual design of a two degrees-of-freedom compliant wrist

    No full text
A compliant wrist joint is important for positioning the hand in different positions to perform various daily tasks. It is also important that the wrist is able to achieve sufficient range of motion (RoM). The RoM is determined by classifying the daily activities and the most critical applications. This study presents kinematical, structural and kinetic analyses of the conceptual design of a wrist joint in mechanical hand prosthesis: HandMECH. Kinematic and kinetic analyses are carried out to determine the design parameters of the wrist to handle daily activities. Structural analyses is performed to evaluate the stress distributed over the critical part of the wrist and show that the design with a mass of 50 g satisfies the applied boundary condition

Asset price and direction prediction via deep 2D transformer and convolutional neural networks

    No full text
Artificial intelligence-based algorithmic trading has recently started to attract more attention. Among the techniques, deep learning-based methods such as transformers, convolutional neural networks, and patch embedding approaches have become quite popular inside the computer vision researchers. In this research, inspired by the state-of-the-art computer vision methods, we have come up with 2 approaches: DAPP (Deep Attention-based Price Prediction) and DPPP (Deep Patch-based Price Prediction) that are based on vision transformers and patch embedding-based convolutional neural networks respectively to predict asset price and direction from historical price data by capturing the image properties of the historical time-series dataset. Before applying attention-based architecture, we have transformed historical time series price dataset into two-dimensional images by using various number of different technical indicators. Each indicator creates data for a fixed number of days. Thus, we construct two-dimensional images of various dimensions. Then, we use original images valleys and hills to label each image as Hold, Buy, or Sell. We find our trained attention-based models to frequently provide better results for ETFs in comparison to the baseline convolutional architectures in terms of both accuracy and financial analysis metrics during longer testing periods.Publisher versio

    No full text
The current study aimed to examine adolescents' conflict resolution patterns in their relationships with their mother, father, and best-friend and to investigate how these patterns differ in adolescents' well-being (i.e., life satisfaction, problem solving confidence, trait-anxiety). Participants were 1033 Turkish adolescents between the ages of 11 to 19. Adolescents' conflict resolution behaviors were examined with a person-centered approach through cluster analysis which revealed four groups of adolescents who differ in their conflict resolution patterns. The first cluster which labeled as "Confrontational and Withdrawing" was characterized by low levels of problem-solving and high levels of conflict engagement, withdrawal and compliance. The second cluster which labeled as "Problem Solver" was characterized by high levels of problem solving and low levels of conflict engagement, withdrawal, compliance. The third cluster "Confrontational but not Withdrawing" was characterized by high levels of conflict engagement and low levels of withdrawal, problem solving, compliance. The fourth cluster "Problem Solver but Withdrawing" was characterized by low levels of conflict engagement and high levels of withdrawal, problem solving, compliance. Univariate ANCOVAs, conducted to examine how these clusters differ in psychological well-being revealed that "Problem Solver" had the highest scores in well-being indicators while "Confrontational and Withdrawing" had the lowest scores. Overall, findings revealed how combinations of different resolution styles differ in well-being and highlighted the importance of developing constructive resolution behaviors in adolescence.
