    Search for Wγ resonances in proton-proton collisions at √s = 13 TeV using hadronic decays of Lorentz-boosted W bosons

    A search for Wγ resonances in the mass range between 0.7 and 6.0 TeV is presented. The W boson is reconstructed via its hadronic decays, with the final-state products forming a single large-radius jet, owing to a high Lorentz boost of the W boson. The search is based on proton-proton collision data at s=13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137 fb−1, collected with the CMS detector at the LHC in 2016–2018. The Wγ mass spectrum is parameterized with a smoothly falling background function and examined for the presence of resonance-like signals. No significant excess above the predicted background is observed. Model-specific upper limits at 95% confidence level on the product of the cross section and branching fraction to the Wγ channel are set. Limits for narrow resonances and for resonances with an intrinsic width equal to 5% of their mass, for spin-0 and spin-1 hypotheses, range between 0.17 fb at 6.0 TeV and 55 fb at 0.7 TeV. These are the most restrictive limits to date on the existence of such resonances over a large range of probed masses. In specific heavy scalar (vector) triplet benchmark models, narrow resonances with masses between 0.75 (1.15) and 1.40 (1.36) TeV are excluded for a range of model parameters.     Türkiye'de yeni medya sanatı'nda profesyonel sınırların belirlenmesi

    In a world where the Post-media condition has rendered the artistic media hierarchies obsolete, New Media Art continues to exist as a professional territory with ambiguous boundaries. The term refers to a community of specialists and institutions with some common practices with, but also autonomous from the Contemporary Art territory. This dissertation defends the position that understanding New Media Art's current scope requires a close examination of the rhetorical tactics of the professionals involved in its territorial demarcation. It uses Thomas F. Gieryn's concept of "boundary-work" to explore whether the territory's cultural repertoire is diversified across subgroups, and whether it conforms to or contradicts the international cultural repertoire. The study finds that the professional ideology of the New Media Art territory in Turkey has developed in parallel with the world at large, especially starting from the mid-1990s, but not monolithically. The common ideology of the curators/producers has four defining characteristics: potential for democratization, intersections of art, science and technology, interaction/interactivity and interdisciplinary collaboration. The subjects use these concepts in two different meanings depending on their career orientations, exhibiting two main repertoire variants. The main characteristics of the artists' common ideology is similar to the curators'/producers', but thanks to the greater variety in their individual professional identities, their cultural repertoires are relatively more flexible and heterogeneous. Most importantly, the choice of the repertoire variant in both populations is positively correlated with the art funding conditions specific to Turkey.Yeni Medya Sanatı, Medyum-sonrası durumun sanatsal medyum hiyerarşilerini geçersiz kıldığı bir dünyada profesyonel sınırları muğlak bir alan olarak varlığını sürdürmektedir. Bu terim, Çağdaş Sanat alanı ile bazı ortak pratiklere sahip, ancak aynı zamanda ondan bağımsız bir grup uzman ve kurumun varlığına işaret eder. Bu tez, Türkiye'de Yeni Medya Sanatı'nın güncel kapsamını ve profesyonel ideolojisini anlamak için, alanı tanımlayan profesyonellerin retorik taktiklerinin yakından incelenmesi gerektiğini savunur. Thomas F. Gieryn'in "sınır-çalışması" kavramını, alanın kültürel repertuvarının alt gruplar arasında çeşitlilik gösterip göstermediğini ve uluslararası repertuvarla uyumlu olup olmadığını incelemek için kullanır. Çalışma, Türkiye'de Yeni Medya Sanatı alanının profesyonel ideolojisinin, özellikle 1990'ların ortalarından itibaren dünyayla parallel olarak geliştiğini, ancak bu gelişimin yekpare olmadığını göstermektedir. Küratör/prodüktörlerin ortak ideolojisi dört ayırt edici özelliğe sahiptir: Demokratikleştirme potansiyeli, sanat-bilim-teknoloji kesişimleri, etkileşim ve disiplinlerarası işbirliği. Süjeler bu kavramları kariyer yönelimlerine bağlı olarak iki farklı şekilde kullanmakta ve böylece ortaya iki ana repertuvar varyantı çıkmaktadır. Sanatçıların ortak ideolojileri küratör/prodüktörlerinkine benzemekle birlikte, kültürel repertuvarları bireysel mesleki kimliklerinin çeşitliliğinden ötürü görece daha esnek ve heterojen bir yapı ortaya koymaktadır. En önemlisi, her iki grupta da hangi kültürel repertuvar varyantının kullanıldığı, Türkiye'ye özgü sanat fonlama koşulları ile pozitif bağıntı içindedir

    Mutation testing of PL/SQL programs

    Mutation testing is a prominent technique for evaluating the effectiveness of a test suite. Existing tools developed for supporting this technique are applicable for mainstream programming languages like C and Java. Mutation testing tools and mutation operators used by these tools are inherently language-specific. Moreover, there is a lack of industrial case studies for evaluating mutation testing tools and techniques in practice. In this article, we introduce muPLSQL, a tool for applying mutation testing on PL/SQL programs, facilitating automation for both mutant generation and test execution. We utilized existing mutation operators that are applicable for PL/SQL. In addition, we introduced some operators specifically for this language. We conducted an industrial case study for evaluating the applicability and usefulness of our tool and mutation testing in general. We applied mutation testing on a business support software system. muPLSQL generated a total of 5,939 mutants. The number of live mutants was 680. Manual inspection of live mutants led to improvements of the existing test suite. In addition, we found 8 faults in source code during the inspection process. Test execution against the mutants required around 40 h. The overall effort was almost one person month

    Preschool children’s self-regulation and learning behaviors: The moderating role of teacher–child relationship

    Background Children's approach to learning is essential for both academic achievement and socio-emotional well-being. This competence is influenced by both individual (self-regulation) and environmental factors (teacher-child relationships). Objective The aim of the present study is to examine Turkish children's learning behaviors through the interplay of children's self-regulation and teacher-child relationship. In particular, we examine the moderating role of teacher-child relationship quality on the link between self-regulation and learning behaviors. Method Participants were 140 preschool children (81 boys) from a disadvantaged neighborhood in Istanbul, Turkey. Children's age ranged from 39 to 77 months (M = 62.55, SD = 8.53). Teachers reported on teacher-child relationship quality and children's learning behaviors. We assessed children's self-regulation via structured performance-based tasks. Results Regression results using SAS PROC MIXED showed: first, the combination of high teacher-child closeness and hot self-regulation was related to higher levels of learning behaviors. Second, teacher closeness was positively, and teacher conflict was negatively associated with children's learning behaviors. Third, cool and hot aspects of self-regulation were related to children's learning behaviors; this was true only for cool aspects of self-regulation in multivariate analyses. Conclusions Children's self-regulation (hot and cool aspects) and the qualities of teacher-child relationships appear to be important for their approaches to learning. Findings from the current study provide additional support for individual-context interaction for child outcomes in the Turkish preschool educational context

    Vehicular VLC system with selection combining

    The availability of LED-based headlights and taillights makes possible the use of visible light communication (VLC) as a wireless access technology for vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications. A critical concern to establish a reliable VLC link between two moving vehicles is the number of photodetectors and their locations on the destination vehicle. In this paper, we experimentally investigate the usage of dual photodetectors for a vehicular VLC system with selection combining to enhance signal reception in mobile conditions. We measure the electrical receive signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) for each individual photodetector as well as at the output of selection combiner in two different tracks involving straight and curved roads. Through data fitting to experimental data, we obtain a probability density function (PDF) to describe the instantaneous SNR. Based on the PDF, we derive a closed-form expression for the average bit error rate (BER) in the form of a finite summation and compare it with the measurements.European Union’s Horizon 202

    Graph convolutional network-based deep feature learning for cardiovascular disease recognition from heart sound signals

    The high mortality rate and prevalence of cardiovascular disease (CVD) make early detection of the disease essential. Due to its simplicity and low cost, the phonocardiogram (PCG) system is widely used in healthcare applications for the recognition of CVD in multiclass problems. On the basis of the PCG signal, this paper proposes a hybrid method for classifying cardiac sounds with deep extracted features through two-step learning. For fine-grained features in Graph Convolutional Networks (GCNs), sampling and prior layers are employed. A PCG signal is divided into equal parts with overlap using the windowing process. L-spectrograms extract frequency-domain information from signals to figure out their power spectrum. Furthermore, the deep GCN tries to determine the association between CVD and spectrogram images to recognize CVD signals better. Combining retrieved features with convolutional neural network (CNN) characteristics reveals an image's intrinsic associations. To generate relational feature representations, correlations between clusters and GCN are visualized using a graph structure. CNN's discriminative ability has been enhanced by incorporating GCN attributes. Using Michigan Heart Sound and Murmur Database and PhysioNet/CinC 2016 Challenge results, we are 99.44% and 96.16% accurate, respectively. Through a combination of GCN architecture, CNN design, and deep features, the hybrid model significantly improves CVD classification accuracy. Measuring metrics demonstrate that the proposed approach detects CVD more effectively than previous approaches

    Konuşma ve jestlerde uzay ifadelerinin gelişimi: Sagital ve topolojik uzamsal ilişkiler örneği

    Previous literature has shown that learning to communicate about space follows a lengthy timetable. However, prior work has shown that children can express some concepts, including spatial relations, in gestures prior to expressing them in speech. Do children use gestures with under-informative descriptions for spatial relations that are acquired earlier in development such as topological and viewpoint dependent sagittal spatial relations? Furthermore, within those spatial relations that are acquired earlier, are there differences in the use of under-informative speech plus gesture combinations? Finally, when speech and gesture are both considered, do developmental differences between adults and children diminish or disappear completely? The present study addresses these questions by looking at children's spatial expressions in speech only, gestures, and speech plus gesture. We contrasted descriptions of two spatial descriptions that vary in their complexity. Participants (24 children and 23 adults) were monolingual Turkish speakers who described a target picture (indicated by an arrow) to an addressee. Target pictures depicted either topological relations (in-on) or viewpoint-dependent relations in the sagittal axis (front-behind). Our results showed that children and adults produced informative spatial expressions equally frequently for topological spatial relations in their speech. However, children produced informative spatial expressions less frequently than adults for viewpoint dependent sagittal spatial relations in their speech. Children produced spatial expressions that informative when gesture were considered more for viewpoint dependent sagittal spatial relations. Children produced spatial expressions that informative when gesture were considered less for topological spatial relations because they were already informative in their speech. Lastly, children’s frequency of informative spatial expressions reached the adults’ level in speech plus gestures. Gestures revealed earlier expression of viewpoint dependent sagittal spatial relations. However, the total speech plus gesture frequency of informative spatial expression did not add new information for topological spatial relations. This study demonstrated the interactions between multimodal expressions of spatial relations and their complexity as seen in their order of acquisition.Önceki çalışmalar uzamsal alanda iletişim kurmanın uzun bir gelişimsel çizelgeyi takip ettiğini göstermektedir. Ancak, yine önceki çalışmalar çocukların uzamsal ilişkiler de dahil olmak üzere bazı kavramları jest kullanarak konuşmalarından daha erken ifade edebildiklerini de göstermektedir. Çocukların nesneler arasındaki ilişkiyi yeterince açıklamayan kelimeler ile birlikte jest kullanıp kullanmadıkları, topolojik ve sagital eksendeki uzamsal ilişkiler gibi gelişimsel olarak daha erken yaşlarda öğrenilen uzamsal ilişkilerde test edilmemiştir. Ayrıca, daha erken öğrenilen uzamsal ilişkiler arasında yeterince açıklayıcı olmayan kelimeler ile jest kullanımında bir fark olup olmadığı incelenmemiştir. Son olarak, konuşma ve jest beraber değerlendirildiğinde, çocuklar ve yetişkinler arasındaki gelişimsel farkların azalıp azalmadığı veya tamamen kaybolup kaybolmadığı bilinmemektedir. Bu çalışmada, çocukların ve yetişkinlerin konuşmalarına, jestlerine, konuşma ve jestlerine birlikte bakılarak bu sorulara cevap aranmıştır. Bunun için çocuk ve yetişkinlerin zorluk derecelerinde farklılık gösteren iki uzamsal ilişkiyi konuşma ve jestlerinde nasıl ifade ettikleri kıyaslanmıştır. Anadili olarak Türkçe konuşan katılımcılardan (24 çocuk ve 23 yetişkin) farklı uzamsal ilişkileri gösteren 4 fotoğraf arasından ok ile gösterilen hedef fotoğrafı tanımlamaları istenmiştir. Bu görseller arasında ok ile gösterilen hedef uzamsal ilişkiler topolojik (içinde-üstünde) ya da sagital eksendeki bakış açısına göre değişen uzamsal ilişkilerden oluşmaktadır. Sonuçlar çocuk ve yetişkinlerin konuşmalarında topolojik uzamsal ilişkileri eşit sıklıkla bilgilendirici ifade ettiklerini göstermektedir. Ancak, çocukların konuşmalarında sagital eksendeki bakış açısına göre değişen uzamsal ilişkileri yetişkinlere göre daha az sıklıkla bilgilendirici ifade edebileceği bulunmuştur. Çocukların nesneler arasındaki ilişkiyi yeterince açıklamayan ifadeler ile birlikte jest kullanımının, sagital eksendeki bakış açısına göre değişen uzamsal ilişkileri tanımlamada topolojik ilişkileri tanımlamaya göre daha sıklıkla kullandıkları bulunmuştur. Çocukların nesneler arasındaki ilişkiyi yeterince açıklamayan ifadeler ile birlikte jestleri topolojik ilişkiler için daha az kullandıkları bulunmuştur. Buna sebep olarak çocukların topolojik uzamsal ilişkilerin konuşma ile ifadesinde zaten yeterince bilgilendirici oldukları gösterilebilir. Son olarak, konuşma jestler ile birlikte değerlendirildiği zaman, çocuklar ile yetişkinler arasındaki gelişimsel farkların kapandığı gözlemlenmiştir. Çocuklar jestleri aracılığı ile sagital eksendeki bakış açısına göre değişen uzamsal ilişkilerde erken gelişim göstermişlerdir. Ancak, konuşma ve jestlerin toplam bilgilendirici sıklığı topolojik uzamsal ilişkilerin ifade edişine yeni bir bilgi eklememiştir.     There is no doubt that data is the most valuable asset today. The efforts of enterprises in digital transformation and creating a data-driven culture are the most concrete indicators of this. Nowadays, where data transforms all industries, it is possible to follow the rapidly developing technological developments in this field. Appropriate data management strategies are the basis of creating data-driven organizations. When the evolution of data management architectures is examined, it is possible to say that the biggest factor that triggers this evolution is the changing and increasing data sources and the velocity of data production. In addition, with the increase in the importance of business use cases that need to be done in real time, it has become a very crucial need to process data quickly and turn it into action. Today when data is strategic importance, enterprises that can manage data correctly could gain competitive advantages. Being able to the correct data management can be built with the support of up-to-date and modern approaches. The infrastructures established by the integration of new and modern methods into the platforms turn into more agile structures. This increases the number of value added services to be produced from data by providing speed and flexibility to organizations. Today, the outputs expected to be produced from data management platforms go beyond descriptive and diagnostic analytic. Now, artificial intelligence, machine learning and data science are important parts of these platforms and these are opened new channels for the future of enterprises. In this thesis, basic needs and capabilities of modern data management architectures are described and detailed explanations were made on reference architectures in the industry. Besides, data management strategies and expectations were discussed. An example prototype of the data management platforms, which is explained in detail in this thesis, has also been developed on the cloud platforms. In this prototype, the entire life cycle of the data was considered and each step was developed in detail. In addition, a data science project was developed using the data collected on the platform. Thus, an end-to-end solution has been implemented.Günümüzde verinin en değerli varlık olduğu şüphe götürmez bir gerçek. Kurumların dijital dönüşüm ve veriye dayalı kültür oluşturma konusundaki çabaları bunun en somut göstergesi. Verinin tüm endüstrileri dönüştürdüğü günümüzde bu alanda hızla gelişen teknolojilik gelişmeleri de takip etmek mümkün. Veriye dayalı organizasyonlar kurmanın temelinde ise doğru veri yönetim stratejileri ve platformları yer almaktadır. Veri yönetim mimarilerinin evrimi incelendiğinde bu evrimi tetikleyen en büyük etkenin değişen ve çoğalan veri kaynakları ile verinin üretilme hızı olduğunu söylemek mümkün. Bunun yanında gerçek zamanlı uygulanması gerken iş senaryolarının da hayatımıza girmesi ile beraber veriyi hızlı bir şekilde işleyip aksiyona çevirebilmekte oldukça önemli bir ihtiyaç. Verinin stratejik bir öneme sahip olduğu günümüzde veri yönetimini doğru yapabilen kurumlar rekabette avantaj sağlayabilmektedirler. Doğru veri yönetimi ise güncel ve modern yaklaşımlar ile desteklenerek kurgulanabilmektedir. Yeni ve modern yöntemlerin platformlara entegre edilmesi ile kurulan alt yapılar daha çevik yapılara dönüşmektedir. Bu da organizasyonlara hız ve esneklik sağlayarak veriden üretilecek katma değerli servislerin sayısını arttırmaktadır. Günümüzde veri yönetim platformlarından üretilmesi beklenen çıktılar tanımlayıcı ve teşhis edici analatik çalışmaların ötesindedir. Artık yapay zekaninın, yapay öğrenmenin ve veri biliminin bu platformların önemli bir parçası olmasıyla birlikte modern veri yönetim platformlarından katma değeri yüksek çıktılar da elde edilebilmektedir. Yapılan bu tez çalışması ile modern veri yönetim mimarilerinin temel ihtiyaçları ve yetenekleri tariflenmiştir. Endüstrideki referans mimariler üzerinden detaylı incelemeler yapılarak veri yönetim stratejileri ve beklentileri tartışılmıştır. Bu çalışmada detaylı bir şekilde anlatılan veri yönetim alt yapılarının bulut platformları üzerinde örnek bir prototipi de geliştirilmiştir. Geliştirilen prototip mimaride verinin kaynaklardan toplanmasından merkezi veri yönetim platformuna getirilmesine ve bu platform üzerinde ileri analitik senaryolar geliştirilmesine kadar örnek bir çözüm ortaya koyulmuştur. Ayrıca platform üzerinde toplanan veri kullanılarak geliştirilen ileri analitik modelleme çalışması ile tanımı yapılan güncel bir problem çözümleye çalışılmıştır

    Continual learning for affective robotics: A proof of concept for wellbeing

    Sustaining real-world human-robot interactions re-quires robots to be sensitive to human behavioural idiosyn-crasies and adapt their perception and behaviour models to cater to these individual preferences. For affective robots, this entails learning to adapt to individual affective behaviour to offer a personalised interaction experience to each individual. Continual Learning (CL) has been shown to enable real-time adaptation in agents, allowing them to learn with incrementally acquired data while preserving past knowledge. In this work, we present a novel framework for real-world application of CL for modelling personalised human-robot interactions using a CL-based affect perception mechanism. To evaluate the proposed framework, we undertake a proof-of-concept user study with 20 participants interacting with the Pepper robot using three variants of interaction behaviour: static and scripted, using affect-based adaptation without personalisation, and using affect-based adaptation with continual personalisation. Our results demonstrate a clear preference in the participants for CL-based continual personalisation with significant improvements observed in the robot's anthropomorphism, animacy and likeability ratings as well as the interactions being rated significantly higher for warmth and comfort as the robot is rated as significantly better at understanding how the participants feel.Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Counci
